Compliance Jobs Report: May 24

Lots of news from large companies in the Compliance Jobs Report this week. Walmart has a new No. 2, Pepsico has changed its compliance leadership, and the CCO at A.P. Maersk has moved on, among much more news. We also have some CCOs moving into consulting world, and our Meme of the Week goes out to fallen veterans.

I gather these bits of information from LinkedIn, news alerts, and friends emailing me something to include. If you have a tip to pass along, email me at [email protected] or find me on LinkedIn. This report depends on people like you helping me, so send some news! Read on…

Compliance Jobs News

Searle

We start with Walmart, which named a No. 2 for its compliance function this week. David Searle will be chief international ethics and compliance officer, starting next Tuesday. Searle will report to Daniel Trujillo, Walmart’s global head of ethics and compliance (who held that No. 2 job himself until he was promoted to the top spot in February). Searle comes to Walmart from the Bristow Group in Texas, where he was chief compliance officer.

Changing of the guard at ethics and compliance guard at Pepsico. Stepping down is Lynn Haaland, who had been global chief ethics and compliance officer there since 2016. Succeeding her is David Flavell, who has been with Pepsi in various legal roles since 2011. Haaland is hanging out at Pepsico for a while yet in a consulting role as Flavell gets up to speed.

Update on Kristen Hardy, who left her compliance role the other week at Rockwell Automation. She’s now at Briggs & Stratton Corp., maker of pressure washers, lawn care equipment, and all that other stuff I’m too lazy to use for my own house. Hardy will work on anti-corruption compliance and trade compliance, which is bound to keep a person busy these days.

compliance jobsAlex Ghazvinian has left his job as chief compliance officer at A.P Moller-Maersk, the Danish cargo container giant. Ghazvinian is joining SCIPA, a Swiss chemicals company that makes specialized inks for security, in some compliance role still to be announced.

In Chicago, Catherine Oliver-Salbilla has joined Boeing as a senior ethics adviser. Oliver-Salbilla previously spent 19 years at Allstate in various legal and compliance roles.

Joe Wilson has climbed aboard the Wells Fargo stagecoach, working on enterprise privacy and information risk management issues. Wilson comes to the bank from Bobcat, my favorite company in North Dakota, where he worked for several years on internal audit and SOX compliance.

In the United Arab Emirates, Ebrahim Al-Marzouqi has been promoted to assistant compliance manager for sanctions at Mashreq Bank. He had been assistant manager of AML for the last year.

And Carolyn Smith, chief audit executive for the school system of Columbus, Ohio, has been named to the Governmental Accounting Standards Board. She will serve a five-year term starting July 1.

Milestones

Barb Senters is celebrating one year as chief ethics and compliance officer at Sonic Healthcare USA in Austin, Texas.

Michael Slover is celebrating one year as vice president at Goldman Sachs, where he works on financial crimes compliance.

And congratulations to Emmanuel Lulin, chief ethics and compliance officer for L’Oreal, recipient of the 2019 Bill Daniels Being a Difference Award, presented by the NASBA Center for the Public Trust. Lulin will receive the award in New York next week.

Vendors and Service Providers

Jay Martin, recently retired from Baker Hughes after years there as chief compliance officer has joined the law firm Willkie Farr as a partner in its Houston office, working in its corporate compliance and investigations practice.

Sergio Leal is executive director of the Compliance Bar Association. He is also a compliance officer for Bilfinger SE, working in Houston. Have to admit, until now I had not known about any compliance bar association. We’ll investigate.

Walter Johnson has joined Compliance Strategists, the consulting firm founded by industry grand dame Donna Boehme. Johnson previously worked as director of compliance and ethics at Kforce Government Solutions.

And Pam Davis, who had been partner at law firm Orrick Sutcliffe working on FCPA and other anti-corruption compliance issues, has left the firm to join Hui Chen’s botique consulting firm.

Open Req Orders

Estee Lauder is looking for an ethics and compliance program manager. Job is in New York.

Visa is looking for a director of global compliance project management. Job is in Foster City. Calif.

Seven Bridges, a biotech firm in Boston, is looking for a chief compliance officer.

Meme of the Week

We forego the humor this week to remember why we have a Memorial Day weekend, and those whose sacrifice make this country possible. Radical Compliance will be funny again next week, we promise.
