Compliance Jobs Report: Nov. 1

The Compliance Jobs Report this week has compliance personnel moves at Marvell Semiconductor, Crowe, Ripple, and elsewhere; plus a bundle of personnel news specifically in privacy compliance. A few career milestones, job openings from Atlanta to Moscow, and our compliance meme of the week goes out SOX compliance professionals everywhere.

Compliance Jobs News

UC San Francisco has named Brian Smith chief ethics and compliance officer, a role he’s held on an interim basis for two years. Smith will also be senior associate vice chancellor for research. For his ethics and compliance duties he’ll report to Alexander Bustamante, chief compliance and audit officer for the whole University of California system. 

Across the bay in San Jose, Regan MacPherson just took a job as chief legal and compliance officer at Quantum Corp., a data services firm. MacPherson had been chief compliance officer at Marvell Semiconductor since 2017, and prior to that had a long stint at Seagate Technologies. 

Audit and consulting firm Crowe has named Steve Strammello as its next chief risk officer. Strammello, a 26-year veteran of the firm, will succeed Fred Bauters, who is retiring early next year. 

In Tampa, Fla., Krista Muszak just got hired at Johnson & Johnson working in SOX controls and compliance. Muszak was last seen at TechData where she was compliance training and communication manager, until leaving there  at the start of the summer. 

BNP Paribas has hired Marc de la  Cruz as a financial  controls and governance officer. De la Cruz comes to BNP from MUFG,  where he had been a sanctions compliance officer.

In Sao Paolo, Silvia Helena de Almeida has joined Casa dos Ventos Energias Renováveis, a renewable energy firm in Brazil, as compliance officer. De Almeida had previously worked at Sanofi for  18 months as local compliance officer in the region. 

And an update from Denmark: Frederik Reumert, former head of financial crimes compliance for the troubled Danske Bank, has resurfaced at Nykredit. He starts there today as head of banking risk and financial crime prevention. Reumert had worked at Danske Bank in various roles for 17 years. 

Now a bundle of privacy compliance news… 

Gretchen Herault has been named privacy officer for Haven, that healthcare venture launched by Amazon, Berkshire Hathaway, and J.P. Morgan. Herault had been senior privacy counsel at GE Healthcare before that, and has been chief privacy officer at several other places before that. She’s based in Boston. 

Promoted: Andreas Hildebrandt, associate director of international privacy compliance at AbbVie. He had been data protection officer for Western Europe and Canada since March, and European data privacy officer before that. 

Boyd Gaming has hired Peter Sand as manager of privacy compliance. Sand comes to Boyd Gaming after a few months as chief privacy officer for Indiana University, as well as other privacy and compliance stints at Amazon Labs and MGM Resorts

And we close with Ripple, an online payments startup.  It has named Benjamin Melnicki as head of regulatory affairs for the Americas. Melnicki had previously been global regulatory counsel for a blockchain startup that shamelessly called itself Blockchain. Way to own it, guys. 

Milestones

Elizabeth Gilbert just hit one year as associate director of compliance at Boehringer Ingelheim in New York City.

Ohiani Idawu is celebrating one year as group risk and compliance officer at DLM Capital Group in Nigeria. 

Jeffrey Stitt is celebrating one year as vice president of compliance at Hillenbrand in Batesville, Ind. 

And congratulations to the compliance team at the Veterans Health Administration, which just won the Health Ethics Trust’s 2019 Best Compliance Practice Award. Matt Tuchow, CCO  at the VHA, accepted the award on behalf of his team. 

Vendors and Service Providers

Law firm Baker McKenzie,  more known for its anti-corruption work, just scooped up a bunch of lawyers from rival firm Morgan Lewis so Baker can expand its financial regulation and securities enforcement practice. Amy Greer and Jennifer Klass will head the new practice.

Ncontracts, a provider of risk management and compliance solutions for financial firms, has promoted Stephanie Lyon to vice president of compliance

Open Req Orders

Entertainment network Discovery is looking for an internal audit manager. Job is based in Knoxville, Tenn. 

Vifor Pharma is looking for a compliance officer to manage Eastern Europe and Russia. Job is based in Moscow. 

And at Georgia Tech, Ling-Ling Nie is continuing to staff out the university’s ethics and compliance team. Nie says she is looking for a director of ethics and compliance, as well as two ethics and compliance staff attorneys. (Don’t forget that podcast Nie did with Radical Compliance earlier this year, talking about what she’s doing.)
