Another gangbusters Compliance Jobs Report. We have compliance folks coming or going at New York Life, KPMG, Zillow, ABB, Foundation Medicine, and many more. We also have job openings up and down the East Coast, and our Meme of the Week goes out to anyone driven nuts by the sales teams. Which is everyone.

I gather these bits of information from LinkedIn, news alerts, and friends emailing me something to include. If you have a tip to pass along, email me at [email protected] or find me on LinkedIn. This report depends on people’ like you helping me, so send some news! Read on…

Compliance Jobs News

Changing of the guard at New York Life: Sara Badler will be promoted to chief compliance officer effective Jan. 1, succeeding Barbara McInerney, who is retiring after 20 years at the firm. Badler was previously head of compliance for New York Life Investments, and has been at the firm in various roles for 15 years. She will report to general counsel Sheila Davidson.

In London, Legal & General Investment Management has named Camille Blackburn chief compliance officer, stealing her away from Aviva Investors. Blackburn had been CCO at Aviva since 2017. She succeeds Teresa Poy, who is retiring; and will report to chief risk officer Margaret Ammon — who actually will arrive at LGIM in February, one month after Blackburn.

Compliance jobsAlso in London, Tim Langton has joined KPMG as the firm’s head of compliance. Langton had been hanging out for a few months as a solo compliance consultant, and previously spent three years as group ethics and compliance officer at Centrica

Diana Carmina Contreras Guillén has joined Citibanamex as policy governance compliance officer, working in Mexico. Guillén had previously been at Walmart for five years, most recently as senior counsel on foreign trade issues.

Right here in Boston, Foundation Medicine has hired Laura Cordero as senior compliance associate. Cordero comes to Foundation from Bain & Co., where she had been a global compliance specialist since 2017.

The great Russ Berland, who has been working in compliance since before it was cool, just turned up at Aventiv Technologies in Dallas as chief compliance officer. Berland had spent the last year at law firm Greathouse Holloway, and earlier in his career had compliance officer roles at KION Group and Bearing Point

Anna Kruzhilina has joined ABB has senior manager for governance, risk, and compliance and J-SOX implementation. Kruzhilina previously worked for a year as a director for Edge Markets, and prior to that had a long stint at Japan Tobacco International in various compliance roles. She’s based in Switzerland.

Don Benners just hitched up with Wells Fargo doing some testing of the bank’s internal controls for financial crime compliance. Seems like a contract gig for now, but it’s Wells, I’m sure he’ll be busy.

Sacha Schwab has joined SIX Digital Exchange, a trading platform for digital assets, as senior compliance officer. Schwab comes to SDX from Julius Baer, where he’d been a compliance officer.

UBI Banca, a financial firm in Milan, Italy, has named Simone Pieri “head of EU regulatory framework and impact assessment,” which is quite a title. Pieri joins UBI Banca after six years at Barclays, where most recently he had been country head of compliance.

Heidi Richards just took a new job as director of compliance and HR management at Asset InterTech, a software firm based in suburban Dallas. Richards was last seen at Texas A&M University-Commerce (go Lions!) where she had been chief ethics and compliance officer from 2012 until earlier this year.

Zillow, the online home price website we shouldn’t check constantly but we all do, has hired Lyle Smith as leader of its SOX compliance team. Smith comes to Zillow from Aptevo Therapeutics, where he had been head of internal audit for three years.

Chicago-based Herrmann Ultrasonics has named Neha Bilka assistant controller. Always kiss up to the assistant controllers, they’re the ones who can cut that expense check pronto.

In Altamonte Springs, Fla., Brian Cherico has joined BioPlus Specialty Pharma as chief compliance officer. He previously had been vice president of compliance for AcariaHealth 2014-2016, and since then had been doing consulting gigs.

And we close with the Securities and Exchange Commission, which made three personnel appointments this week. First, Paul Munter and John Vanosdall have both joined as deputy chief accountants. Munter will take point on international issues, and recently retired after many years at KPMG. Vanosdall will work more on investor issues related to accounting, and comes to the SEC after working as a partner at PwC. Also, Kristina Littman has been promoted to head of the Enforcement Division’s cyber unit; she’s been working as an enforcement attorney for the agency since 2010.

Vendors and Service Providers

Bit of news from Capitol Hill: the House Financial Services Committee has named Rep. Brad Sherman, D-Calif., chairman of the Subcommittee on Investor Protection, Entrepreneurship and Capital Markets. That’s the subcommittee that deals with issues such as Sarbanes-Oxley compliance exemptions or SEC rules. He succeeds Carolyn Maloney, D-N.Y., who has moved to chairmanship of the House Oversight Committee.

In the media world, Broc Romanek is retiring after 17 years running the TheCorporateCounsel.net, a pioneering and superb blog for those in corporate securities compliance.

Also in media, Francine McKenna is leaving Marketwatch after five years there covering transparency issues. She is teaching and running her own newsletter, The Dig, that takes deep dives into auditing and disclosure issues.

And congratulations to the Great Women in Compliance podcast, which just celebrated its first birthday. It’s run by Mary Shirley (Fresenius Medical Care) and Lisa Fine (Pearson).
