Compliance Jobs Report: Jan. 22

The Compliance Jobs Report this week has personnel news from the White House, Charles Schwab, Google Health, Mundipharma, and many others. We have job leads from Washington to Chicago to southern California; and we’ve noticed lots more job postings online since the start of the year, too. Our Meme of the Week goes out to Bernie Sanders.

As always, thank you to all the compliance people sending me tips and links to keep this report going. We need your help to make the Report work, so send me some news! If you have a tip to pass along, email me at [email protected] or find me on LinkedIn.

Compliance Jobs News

We begin with the Biden Administration, where Jeanne Moore Duross has joined the White House as senior ethics counsel — essentially, the chief ethics and compliance officer for President Biden and his inner circle. Duross previously worked 11 years at the Environmental Protection Agency, from 2015 to 2019 as ethics attorney in the EPA’s general counsel office. If her last name sounds familiar, that’s because she is married to Charles Duross, head of FCPA enforcement at the Justice Department for several years in the Obama Administration.

Compliance jobsDiscount brokerage Charles Schwab has recruited Shamoil Shipchandler to run a new regulatory compliance and risk management team the firm has created. The group will oversee regulatory compliance, audit, risk management, employment, and a few other subjects. Shipchandler comes to Schwab from law firm Jones Day, where he worked on white-collar crime issues and securities litigation. Prior to Jones Day, Shipchandler was director of the Fort Worth office of the Securities & Exchange Commission

In London, Julie Sefton Dip has joined financial services firm ING as one of its customer due diligence leads, working on U.K. and United Arab Emirates business. Dip had been doing independent compliance consulting for a few years, including short stints at Nomura, Deutsche Bank, and Commerzbank

Steve Schoenly left his job as assistant vice president of compliance at the University of Miami, where he’d been working for about 15 months. Now he’s the chief compliance and privacy officer at the cleverly named Refresh Mental Health in Jacksonville, Fla. No word yet on whether he’ll remain a Dolphins fan while working in Jaguars territory.

Solar energy company Palmetto (based in South Carolina, naturally) has hired Troy McAlister as director of internal controls and compliance. McAlister was last seen at Cornerstone Building Brands, where he had been vice president of compliance until last summer.

In Melbourne, Australia, Lou Chadjilazarou has moved across town from National Australia Bank, where he had been head of enterprise controls for NAB’s business and private banking; to rival financial firm ANZ, where he is “assurance management expert.” Chadjilazarou had been at NAB since 2019.

James Swift has joined Mundipharma as global (except for the United States, because we rock so much) head of compliance effectiveness. He’s based in London. Swift comes to Mundipharma from Byte Dance, corporate parent of TikTok, where he had been head of fraud, risk, and controls. Prior to Byte Dance, Swift was a senior compliance manager at Juul

Insurance giant AXA has hired Wissem Semmar as a compliance officer for subsidiary governance issues. Semmar joins AXA after four years at Rio Tinto, where most recently she was an analyst in the general counsel’s office working on various compliance projects. Based in Paris.

Heather Reilly just joined Jazz Pharmaceuticals as corporate counsel for commercialization and franchise strategy. Reilly had been a regulatory compliance attorney at consulting firm Axiom for five years.

Honeywell has hired Luz Benito as principal export compliance officer. Benito comes to Honeywell from Ultra Electronics, where she’d been export compliance manager since 2018.

In Chicago, Begench Amangeldiev has left his job at Walgreens Boots Alliance as director of global compliance monitoring and analytics, to join Google Health in a similar compliance monitoring role. Amangeldiev had been at Walgreens Boots for two years — and yes, the company is looking to fill his old job
