Compliance Jobs Report: June 15

The Compliance Jobs Report goes international this week, with compliance officer news and gossip from  ZTE, RBC Capital Markets, Unilever, Kraft-Heinz, and many more. We have a leadership shuffle at a notable audit software vendor, three cool job openings, and our Compliance Meme of the Week goes out to everyone struggling with third-party risk. Read on…

I gather these bits of information from LinkedIn, news alerts, and friends emailing me something to include. If you have a tip to pass along, email me at mkelly@radicalcompliance.com or find me on LinkedIn. This report depends on people like you helping me, so send some news.

Compliance Jobs News

We start with regulator news: the Office of the Comptroller of the Currency has named two new deputy chief counsels. Bao Nguyen was named principal deputy chief counsel and will act as the law department’s chief operating officer; he comes to OCC from the Federal Reserve. Ted Dowd will be deputy chief counsel to oversee the Legislative and Regulatory Activities and the Securities and Corporate Practices division. Dowd already worked at OCC as a legal director.

Howard Plotkin has departed his job as head of U.S. compliance for RBC Capital Markets. According to Bloomberg, Plotkin left the bank in April, after working there since 2010. RBC’s global compliance chief, David Lang, is tending to Plotkin’s duties for the time being.

Compliance JobsYou say you’re game to apply to ZTE Corp. for that newfangled “compliance coordinator” job the Commerce Department is forcing it to create? We don’t know how to apply, but the South China Morning Post says Shen Nan, the company’s chief intellectual property officer, is also pulling double duty as ZTE’s acting chief compliance officer. Then again, ZTE already has a compliance monitor, James Stanton, based in Dallas. Maybe one of those two can give you the straight dope on this job.

In St. Louis, health insurance firm Centene Corp. promoted Brandy Burkhalter to executive vice president of operations. Burkhalter previously was in charge of internal audit and enterprise risk management. Chris Koster, senior VP for corporate services, will now oversee audit, compliance, and risk management on a temporary basis while Centene looks for a replacement for Burkhalter.

Dastan Shagaltayev has joined Kazakhstan Electricity Grid Operating Co. as its compliance officer. He previously worked as head of legal for Eurasian Resources Group in Astana. (Which is the capital of Kazakhstan, which of course you knew already.)

Barbara Danzi has been hired as security, privacy, and data protection senior manager for law firm DLA Piper in New York. Danzi previously worked for Accenture as security senior manager.

Tariq Radwan has been promoted to senior compliance monitoring officer for National Commercial Bank-AlahliNCB in Saudi Arabia. Radwan has been with the bank since 2015.

Syneos Health, a North Carolina biopharma firm created from last year’s merger of INC Research and inVentiv Health, has promoted Courtney Schuster Kamlet to assistant general counsel of corporate & securities. Kamlet joined INC Research in 2015 as senior corporate counsel. Fun fact: she is a huge David Byrne fan. Then again, who isn’t?

Unilever just tapped Kate Banner to be business integrity officer for North Africa and the Middle East. Banner comes to Unilever from AstraZeneca, where she had been a compliance assurance partner for two years. Banner is based in Dubai.

Speaking of AstraZeneca, the pharma giant has promoted Chinwe Omoworare to compliance lead for Middle East and Africa, based out of South Africa. Omoworare has been with AZ since 2011.

Irina Pretor has been named internal control and compliance director for CertAsig Asigurare si Reasigurare, an insurance firm in Bucharest. Pretor previously worked as an internal control and compliance manager for Compania de Asigurari Reasigurari Exim Romania.

In Sao Paolo, Naraiana Souza Lessa has joined Kraft-Heinz Co. as ethics and compliance manager. She previously was as academic coordinator for CPEC, the Center of Research and Teaching in Compliance in Sao Paulo.

Sodrugestvo, an agribusiness firm with offices in Russia and Luxembourg, has named Valdas Laurinavicius chief audit executive. Laurinavicius previously worked as a managing director for organizational development and internal audit for Sistema in Moscow.

Replacing him is Martin Vanderploeg, the company’s president and chief operating officer. Workiva also named David Mulcahy non-executive chairman of the board.

Good news for guidance fanatics: COSO just published a compendium of examples for its new Enterprise Risk Management framework, in case you love the idea of ERM but don’t quite know how to implement it.
