We start with breaking news this week: Tesla’s chief accounting officer, Dave Morton, resigned Friday morning after only one month on the job. Morton said in a statement that he’s bailing due to “the level of public attention placed on the company.” Or one might say Morton got a peek under the hood at Tesla and decided to charge his batteries elsewhere.

The always ethically challenged FIFA. It has poached two top lawyers from the European soccer association UEFA to help FIFA with its various corruption inquiries. UEFA legal director Alasdair Bell is said to be FIFA’s new deputy secretary general for administration, replacing longtime FIFA lawyer Marco Villiger; and UEFA managing director for integrity Emilio Garcia is said to be FIFA’s new chief legal and integrity officer

In Atlanta, Southern Co. has promoted  Laura Hewett from associate general counsel to the newly created position of vice president of corporate governance. Hewett joined the energy company in 2015.

Compliance jobsAlso in Atlanta, we have some musical chairs at Cox Enterprises. First, Amber Hall has left her job there as compliance officer and assistant corporate secretary, to be senior corporate governance counsel and assistant secretary for Wells Fargo. Hall had been with Cox in various legal and compliance roles for seven years.

Succeeding Hall at Cox is Luis Avila, who will be vice president of governance & compliance and assistant corporate secretary. Avila spent the last year as general counsel for the Hispanic National Bar Association in Chicago, and prior to that was associate general counsel and interim chief compliance officer for U.S. Foods.

Anke D’Angelo, former chief compliance officer for insurance firm Swiss Re, has been named auditor general of the World Bank and vice president of its internal audit department.

Lee Health, a health care system based in Fort Myers, Fla., has named Jeffrey Pigott vice president of compliance and internal auditing. Pigott previously was corporate compliance officer and director of internal audit for Huntsville Hospital Health System in Alabama.

Spencer Mazyck has joined audio technology firm Dolby Laboratories as director of compliance and ethics. Mazyck, based in San Francisco, previously was senior manager for  global integrity and compliance for NetApp.

Lupin Pharmaceuticals of Naples, Fla. has hired Margarita Malhotra to be director of compliance. Malhotra previously worked for industrial tools company Greenlee Textron as director of ethics & compliance.

John Sassaman has been promoted to chief counsel for ethics & compliance at Boeing. Sassaman, who joined the company in 2014, was previously director of ethics & business conduct for government operations and Boeing International.

Kyocera Document Solutions Europe has promoted Johan van der Meer (you gotta love Dutch names) to manager of governance, risk and compliance, in addition to his role as group data protection officer. Van der Meer, who is based in Amsterdam, joined the company in 2010.

Maria Gonzalez Calvet has left her job as General Electric’s executive counsel for global investigations to become a partner with Ropes & Gray in the law firm’s D.C. office.

Danish pension fund ATP has hired Kim Kehlet Johansen as its new chief risk officer. Johansen, who previously was mathematical director for SEB Pension, replaces Mads Smith Hansen, who is on a career break. We need those here in the United States, too.

Deanna Rankin has been named chief compliance officer for wealth management firm Argent Financial Group in San Antonio. Rankin comes to Argent from Frost Bank, where she was head of internal audit.

Raissa Sammut has been promoted from senior officer to regulatory compliance manager for APS Bank in Malta. Sammut joined the bank in 2017.

And longtime Merrill Lynch employee Jerry McDonough has been promoted from vice president administrative manager to market supervision manager. McDonough, who joined the company in 1999, is based in Naples, Fla.

Milestones

Sad news: Robert Stroud, who served in numerous leadership roles with ISACA (Information Systems Audit and Control Association), died in a car accident earlier this week. Stroud, who was chief product officer of software firm XebiaLabs, was chair of the ISACA board in 2014 and 2015, served on its board until earlier this year, and worked on many of its initiatives over the years.

Remember Gene Truono, former chief compliance officer at PayPal, running for the Republican nomination for Senate in Delaware? He lost this week.

Vendors & Service Providers

Paul Tuchmann, a former U.S. attorney for the Eastern District of New York and one of the prosecutors leading the FIFA task force, just turned up at the law firm Wiggin & Dana in New Haven, Conn., as a partner.

Law firm Jones Day has hired Laura Pruitt, former senior counsel at the SEC, who worked in the Division of Market Regulation and the Office of the General Counsel.

Open Req Orders

Looking to unleash your inner prosecutor while living in London? Britain’s National Economic Crime Center, a new enforcement unit focused on bribery, corruption, and money laundering crimes that’s opening for business Oct. 31, is seeking a director general. The center will operate under the direction of the National Crime Agency. I nominate Meghan Markle.

Analog Devices, a semiconductor company in suburban Boston, is seeking an internal auditor.

Morningstar is hiring a chief compliance officer for North America. The job is based in Chicago.
