Other Gossip
This story is a bit weedy, but worth hearing: Uttam Dhillon, a former top ethics counsel in the White House, warned against several candidates to head the Drug Enforcement Administration — and then took the job himself earlier this summer. So says the Wall Street Journal, which reports that law enforcement circles are unhappy with Dhillon because he has almost no narcotics experience, and that the scant time he did run a counter-narcotics office in the Bush Administration didn’t go well.
Milestones
Amy Schuh is celebrating one year as senior vice president, chief ethics and compliance officer for IT services firm Cognizant in the Philadelphia area.
Vendors & Service Providers
As we noted earlier this week, Roy Snell has peaced out as CEO of the Society of Corporate Compliance and the Healthcare Compliance Association after 22 years on the job. His successor, Gerry Zack, takes over on Nov. 1.
Audrey Harris, former chief compliance officer for Australian mining company BHP, has rejoined law firm Mayer Brown in its D.C. office. Harris, who was a partner at the law firm prior to joining BHP, will be co-leader of the firm’s global anti-corruption and FCPA practice.
Jeffrey Cottle has jumped law firms, leaving Steptoe & Johnson to become a partner with Norton Rose in its compliance and investigations practice. Some of you may remember Cottle from his days on the corporate side, as a compliance officer at BHP Billiton, BAE, and elsewhere. Cottle will split his time between the United States and Europe. (I split mine between the spare bedroom and the corner coffee shop.)
