Compliance Jobs Report: Nov. 23

We have an abbreviated Compliance Jobs Report this Thanksgiving week but still plenty of news! Several audit and compliance hires in the insurance world, promotions at Halvorson, the Casino Group, and Axalta Coatings; and has anyone noticed that Uber is hiring for, like, a zillion compliance, privacy, and legal roles?

I gather these bits of information from LinkedIn, news alerts, and friends emailing me something to include. If you have a tip to pass along, email me at [email protected] or find me on LinkedIn. This report depends on people like you helping me, so send some news! Read on…

Compliance Jobs News

Carl Halvorson has been promoted from senior internal auditor to assistant vice president for internal audit at Halvorson, a real estate firm based in Chicago. He’s been with Halvorson since 2016.

In Warsaw, N.Y., Five Star Bank has promoted its Bethany Bowers to chief compliance officer. She was previously the bank’s head of fair & responsible banking. She will report to Sean Willett, who was promoted from chief risk officer to chief administrative officer.

The Casino Group, a rather deceptively named French retail group that has nothing to do with gambling, has promoted David Lubek from controller to CFO.

Anthony Dunn has joined American Financial Group, an insurance holding company based in Cincinnati with $64 billion under management, as vice president of internal audit. Dunn comes to AFG from Cincinnati Insurance Co., where he was head of internal audit and financial planning.

Katia Rosenstein Laurents has joined Esai Labs in Mexico City as compliance officer and associate senior counsel. Laurents had been consulting for the previous 18 months, and before that worked at Adcel MobileCard as head of compliance.

Colonial Group International, an insurance business based in Bermuda, has named Candace Steele chief compliance officer. Steel comes to Colonial from Validus Reinsurance, where she had worked in various compliance roles for eight years.

And in Philadelphia, Tabitha Oman, deputy general counsel and chief compliance officer at Axalta Coating Systems, has received a temporary promotion to interim general counsel. She is replacing Michael Finn, who is departing Axalta for another job.

Milestones

Jason Gerb, chief compliance officer at Foresters Financial Services, has been elected to serve as a member of the FINRA Regional Committee for District 10, the New York region.

Stephen Kozey, corporate secretary of the Midwest ISO power utility, has announced his retirement. Kozey has been chief compliance officer since 2016 and was chief legal counsel before that. No word on what he’ll do after unplugging.

Other Gossip

Supermarket chain Wegmans recently agreed to pay $1.1 million to New York state liquor authorities for various violations, and in the settlement said it has hired a compliance officer and is building up a compliance function. That’s news to me and we’re looking into who these compliance staffers will be. If you know, let me know.

Vendors & Service Providers

The GRC vendor and advisory community, smart people that they are, had nothing particularly newsworthy to announce this week that nobody was paying attention.

Open Req Orders

Tenet Health is recruiting a senior ethics adviser. Job is based in Dallas, mid-career position with several years’ work experience.

Uber is trying to fill a bunch of compliance roles (no surprise there). The company is looking for a deputy chief compliance officer to work in San Francisco with Scott Schools, the ex-Justice Department official Uber hired as chief compliance officer in July. It’s also hiring at least five compliance program managers in Chicago, New York, Washington, and California; and a director of ethics and compliance in India. Visit the Uber jobs page and enter “compliance” for a complete listing.

Broward Health down in Fort Lauderdale, Fla., is hiring a chief compliance officer.

Meme of the Week

That’s all for the week ending Nov. 23. Enjoy the Thanksgiving weekend. And remember: if you have a tip or want to brag about your new job, promotion, career milestone, or anything else, email me at [email protected] or find me on LinkedIn.

I’m always happy to give credit to the many hard-working people here in our corner of the business universe.
