Compliance Jobs Report: May 31

We have a shorter Compliance Jobs Report this week (a hangover from the huge reports of the last several weeks), including news about staffing changes at the SEC and a slew of personnel moves related to privacy, data governance, and cybsersecurity. Flowers Foods promoted its CCO, we have three intriguing job openings, and our Meme of the Week goes out to all you secret Excel fans.

I gather these bits of information from LinkedIn, news alerts, and friends emailing me something to include. If you have a tip to pass along, email me at [email protected] or find me on LinkedIn. This report depends on people like you helping me, so send some news! Read on…

Compliance Jobs News

We begin with news from the Securities and Exchange Commission. First, Wes Bricker, chief accountant since 2016, is leaving the agency next month. Next career move is unknown at this time, but Bricker spent more than six years at the SEC and worked on projects such as new accounting standards for revenue recognition and leasing costs.

Sagar Teotia, the SEC’s deputy chief accountant, will serve as acting chief while the agency looks for a permanent replacement. Teotia joined the SEC in 2017 after working at Deloitte as a partner in its national office.

The SEC also promoted Erin Schneider to director of its San Francisco field office. Schneider has been with the SEC since 2005 and been associate director of the office since 2015. Schneider has worked on cases involving Elon Musk and his tweet-from-the-hip outbursts, and the baloney blood-testing outfit otherwise known as Theranos. So if you’re doing something stupid in Silicon Valley, Schneider is the one who’ll bust your chops.

Flowers Foods, maker of Dave’s Killer Bread and Tastykake, among other items, is promoting chief compliance officer Stephanie Tillman to chief legal counsel, effective Jan. 1, 2020. Tillman will succeed Stephen Avera, who is retiring after 33 years with Flowers. Tillman has been with the company since 1995.

We mentioned last week that Alex Ghazvinian had left his job as compliance officer at A.P. Maersk to join SICPA, a specialty chemicals company in Switzerland. Ghazvinian has since confirmed that he will indeed be chief compliance officer there as well.

Jonathan Soll, last seen at Change Healthcare in Atlanta as chief compliance counsel for network solutions, just turned up at Axiom, where he is senior compliance and privacy attorney. Also still in Atlanta.

Saira Nayak has been named senior data protection counsel at Twitter. She previously was senior privacy counsel at Amazon.

Vistra, a trust and corporate services firm, has named Anita Yu regional compliance officer for North Asia. Yu will be based in Hong Kong and report to chief compliance officer Tanya Scott-Tomlin.

And OCC, the options clearinghouse in Chicago, has named Christina Ayiotis deputy vice president for information governance and data privacy. Ayiotis has been a cybersecurity consultant in Washington for most of the 2010s and was deputy general counsel of CSC Corp. prior to that.
