Compliance Jobs Report: June 21
The Compliance Jobs Report this week has a new commissioner at the SEC; personnel shifts at Realogy, Danske Bank, Natural Fuel, Dr. Reddy’s Labs, and more. We also have four job openings this week, a smattering of other gossip, and our Meme of the Week goes out to Walmart.
I gather these bits of information from LinkedIn, news alerts, and friends emailing me something to include. If you have a tip to pass along, email me at [email protected] or find me on LinkedIn. This report depends on people like you helping me, so send some news! Read on…
Compliance Jobs News
We begin with the Securities and Exchange Commission, where the SEC actually has a full, five-member commission again! Yesterday the Senate confirmed Allison Lee as a Democratic commissioner for a term that expires in June 2022. She succeeds Kara Stein, who left the SEC at the start of this year. As we’ve noted before, a fully manned commission actually helps chairman Jay Clayton politically. The bad news: now fellow Democratic commissioner Robert Jackson wants to depart by the fall, so we’ll be back to four members again.
Realogy, the holding company that owns Century 21, Coldwell Banker, and other real estate ventures, has named Shacara Delgado chief ethics and compliance officer. Delgado has been with Realogy since 2002, and had been heading up employment law until this expansion of her role.
Delgado, by the way, succeeds John Brennan, who had been chief audit executive at Realogy and picked up the CECO title too back in October. But Brennan left Realogy in May to join Cognizant Technologies as senior vice president of internal audit and risk management.
Sycamore Partners, a New York private equity firm with about $10 billion in capital raised, has named Carla Vogel chief compliance officer. Vogel previously was chief compliance officer at EIG Energy Partners, a private equity firm based in Washington.
We missed this until now, but earlier this spring BlueCross BlueShield of Western New York promoted Russell Matuszak to chief compliance officer and vice president for compliance, ethics, and privacy. Matuszak has been with the company since 2014 in various compliance roles. We assume he is a Buffalo Bills fan.
After 12 years in compliance at Dr. Reddy’s Labs in India, Sangeetha Karpore has jumped to be general manager of ethics and compliance for Lupin, another pharmaceutical firm in India. I once met Karpore at a compliance conference in Dubai; good person.
Promoted: CNO Financial Group has named Tim Bischof chief risk officer, effective immediately. Bischof has been CNO’s senior vice president, corporate actuary and enterprise risk management since 2013.
Hikvision, a Chinese technology company under scrutiny for how its surveillance gear is used in concentration camps (yep, we’re calling ‘em that) in the Uighur region of China, says it recently hired Pierre-Richard Prosper to advise the firm on human rights compliance issues. Prosper is a former U.S. ambassador and expert on war crimes, and these days hangs his shingle at law firm Arent Fox.
A few moves to report at Natural Fuel Gas Co. in upstate New York. First, Karen Camiolo has been promoted from chief accounting officer to treasurer and principal financial officer; she has been with the company since 2004. Elena Mendel, assistant controller since 2017, will succeed Camiolo as controller.
Grace Fisher Renbarger has been named general counsel of Bazaarvoice, a software firm in Austin, Texas. Renbarger actually worked at Bazaarvoice from 2015 until last summer as chief ethics and compliance officer, then did a six-month stint earlier this year at National Instruments as associate general counsel.
Awkward, but anyway: Deutsche Bank’s new CEO is reportedly looking to replace the bank’s chief compliance officer, Sylvie Matherat. A front-runner to succeed Matherat seems to be Karin Dohm, head of regulatory affairs. Matherat has been with Deutsche Bank since 2014 and its compliance program has been, ahem, less than stellar.
Also in banking, Frederik Reumert has left Danske Bank after 17 years there in various compliance roles. He was head of financial crimes compliance since September 2016. No word yet on what Reurmert might do next.
In Sao Paolo, Leonardo Pinto has been named chief compliance officer at Bit Capital, one of those blockchain fintech startups. Pinto previously worked at management firm Integrow Beyond Numbers as compliance and business director.
HomeServe, an insurance firm in Spain, has named Paloma Cerezo director of legal and compliance. Cerezo comes to HomeServe from Prosegur, another Spanish insurance firm, where she held various regulatory compliance roles.
And Joel Katz, who authored a great guest column for Radical Compliance a few weeks ago, has left his role at Resideo as chief integrity and compliance officer. You might also remember Katz as the longtime head of ethics and compliance at CA Technologies prior to Resideo.
