Compliance Jobs Report: July 26
This week’s Compliance Jobs Report has the new CCO at Carnival Cruise Lines, promotions at Walmart, news from Wells Fargo, Deutsche Bank, and Bank of the West, and much more! A newbie GRC vendor is expanding, we have three interesting job openings, and our Meme of the Week goes out to Kermit the Frog.
I gather these bits of information from LinkedIn, news alerts, and friends emailing me something to include. If you have a tip to pass along, email me at mkelly@radicalcompliance.com or find me on LinkedIn. This report depends on people like you helping me, so send some news! Read on…
Compliance Jobs News
We begin this week with Carnival Cruise Lines, which has hired Peter Anderson as its new chief compliance officer. Carnival got slapped around by a federal judge in June for violating a corporate probation agreement over pollution issues, and hiring a new CCO was part of the settlement. Anderson comes to Carnival from law firm Beveridge & Diamond, where he worked on environmental compliance issues.
Walmart has moved Luis Kolster into a new role as vice president for global operations compliance and continuous improvement. Kolster had previously been chief ethics and compliance officer for Latin America, Africa, and the United Kingdom; and has been with Walmart since 2013.
Walmart has also changed up the leadership of its internal audit function. Brandi Joplin, chief audit executive at Walmart since 2016 (and a 10-year veteran of the company), will move to be CFO of Sam’s Club. Todd Sears, assistant controller, will be promoted to succeed her as CAE.
Deutsche Bank, struggling with all sorts of issues lately, has hired Stefan Simon as head of the bank’s legal and regulatory affairs. He will hold the title of chief administrative officer, and essentially replaces chief regulatory compliance officer Sylvie Matherat. Matherat’s departure had been expected for several months. Simon has been a member of DB’s supervisory board since 2016 and chaired its integrity committee.
Margaret Chirchill has joined Mizuho OSI, a maker of surgical tables and other equipment based in San Francisco, as manager of contracts compliance. Chrichill comes to Mizuho from C’s Compliance, a consulting firm where she had been hanging out since 2016.
Wells Fargo has promoted Amber Hall to head of its ethics office in Charlotte, N.C. Hall had senior counsel for corporate governance at the bank since last year. Prior to that she had been assistant general counsel at Cox Enterprises down in Atlanta.
Randy Sefcik has joined Redis Labs in Silicon Valley as director of compliance. Sefcik comes to Redis from Veritas Technologies, where he had been director of the ethics and compliance program. Redis is a tech firm that bills itself as “the most loved database in the world.” (Insert your own joke here, I suppose the database has room for it.)
Gillian Van Schaick, who retired last year as head of U.S. regulatory compliance at HSBC, just turned up on the board of CURO Group, a payday lender based in Wichita, Kans. Van Schaick will serve on the audit committee.
PJM Interconnection, a power utility based in Valley Forge, Penn., has hired Nigeria Poole Bloczynski as chief risk officer. Bloczynski most recently worked as director of commodity and corporate risk management for WGL Holdings in Washington, D.C.
Now for the international part of our report…
In India, Shobhit Dwivedi has been promoted to head of internal audit at Sembcorp Energy Ltd., in Bengaluru. Dwivedi had been assistant head of internal audit for four years.
In Cyprus, Chrystalla Kazara has a new job as head of internal audit at Ancoria Bank. Kazara had previously been a lecturer at various colleges in Cyprus, and earlier in her career was an internal auditor at the Bank of Cyprus.
In Brazil, Alison Dorigao Palermo just joined ING as vice president for client onboarding. Palermo previously held a similar role at Western Union Business Solutions in Sao Paolo.
And bringing it back home for us, Bank of the West has promoted Tracy Brock to chief compliance officer. Brock joined Bank of the West in 2015 as head of sanctions, AML, and Bank Secrecy Act compliance.
Milestones
No milestones this week! Somebody reach a career anniversary or win an award or something, please.
Vendors and Service Providers
FTI Consulting has hired Kenneth Jones as a senior managing director in its global risk and investigations practice. Jones comes to FTI from UBS, where he was head of fraud investigations, AML investigations, and cyber-crisis incident response.
VComply, a startup GRC software vendor, just raised $2.5 million in seed funding, which apparently will pay for an expansion into European market. (Although the company says its European office will open in Britain. One wonders what Brussels would say about that.)
Open Req Orders
Stitch Fix, the online clothing retailer, is looking for a director of internal audit and enterprise risk management. Job is based in San Francisco. Stitch Fix only went public 22 months ago so SOX compliance work will still keep you plenty busy.
Fresenius Medical Care is recruiting an ethics and compliance officer for Canada. Job is based in Ontario. Your boss would be Mary Shirley, Fresenius’ head of ethics and compliance for North America. Shirley is also famous as co-host of the Great Women in Compliance podcast.
Centene Corp. is looking for a chief compliance officer. Job is based either in Raleigh, N.C., or Tampa, Fla. I’d choose Raleigh, but to each their own.
