Compliance Jobs Report: Nov. 22
Lots of compliance jobs news this week. Michigan State is building up its compliance function. Promotions at CBRE, Concorde Investments, and elsewhere. We have job openings in Tampa, Chicago, and Atlanta; and our meme of the week goes out to anyone involved in an impeachment investigation.
I gather these bits of information from LinkedIn, news alerts, and friends emailing me something to include. If you have a tip to pass along, email me at [email protected] or find me on LinkedIn. This report depends on people’ like you helping me, so send some news! Read on…
Compliance Jobs News
We begin with Michigan State University, which has named Mike Yankowski assistant director of institutional risk and compliance. Yankowski is the recently retired chief of police from Lansing, Mich. He’ll be one of four lieutenants in that office working on various efforts to rebuild Michigan State’s battered corporate culture, reporting into chief audit, risk, and compliance officer Marilyn Tarrant.
Staying in higher ed, the University of Louisville has named Sandy Russell interim vice president of risk management, audit, and compliance. Russell, who has been with Louisville for 27 years, including numerous risk and compliance roles, is holding down the fort since her predecessor Rhonda Bishop decamped for a job with the University of Central Florida.
Promoted: Elizabeth Atlee, to chief ethics and compliance officer, at real estate giant CBRE. Atlee has been with CBRE in various roles for nine years, most recently as deputy general counsel for litigation.
Holy cow: the top financial regulator at the Vatican has been forced out. René Brülhart, head of the Vatican Financial Information Authority, left his post weeks after papal police raided the FIA offices; unclear whether Brülhart was fired or he resigned. There’s a “Godfather III” joke in there somewhere, but the film was so bad that I won’t make it.
At insurance giant Allianz, Catherine Jourdan has moved into a new role as chief risk and compliance officer for Allianz Asset Management. Jourdan had been head of legal and compliance for Allianz Global Investors for the last two years. She’s also relocated from San Francisco to Munich.
Peter Bernstein has a new role at Mastercard, as senior managing counsel for competition, compliance, and policy. Bernstein had been senior counsel for investigations since 2017. Still working from New York City.
In Houston, Sergio Leal has left his job as compliance officer at Bilfinger to be head of compliance for Latin America at Ericsson.
In Boston, Sharon Kamowitz has left her job as assistant privacy officer at Fresenius Medical Care and is hanging her own shingle as a privacy consultant. She had been at Fresenius since 2014.
Carlos Prudencio has joined UBS as associate director. We don’t know exactly what he’s associately directing, but Prudencio had previously been assistant vice president of compliance for First Abu Dhabi Bank, working from Washington. He’s also relocated to New York for the UBS job.
At Concorde Investment Services in Michigan, Kimberlee Levy is moving up from chief compliance officer to general counsel. Levy says this also means Concorde is looking to hire a new CCO to succeed her in that role.
Joya Williams has joined Chevron Phillips Chemical Co. as a compliance specialist. Williams comes to Chevron from Shell Oil Co., where she held various compliance roles since 2013.
Pure Storage — which sells storage for data, not the junk in your garage — has hired Nilisha Agrawal as senior manager for IT internal audit. Agrawal previously worked at Splunk, another Silicon Valley tech firm, an IT audit.
All that way from Tanzania, Elinami Mangesho announced that he is the new head of risk and compliance for Airtel Money Tanzania Ltd. in Dar es Salaam. Mangesho had previously worked at Airtel earlier this decade, but lately had been country compliance manager for Zanzibar Telecom.
And Mike Althouse just turned up at The Bancorp in Delaware, as chief compliance officer. He’d previously been a compliance executive at Barclays and left that role in October. Now we know where he went.
Open Req Orders
Astellas, a pharmaceutical company in suburban Chicago, is looking for an associate director of corporate integrity agreement operations.
The City of Atlanta is looking for an ethics adviser. If you need to ask where that job is based, don’t apply.
And down in Florida, TechData is looking for an ethics and compliance counsel.
