Compliance Jobs Report: May 1

The Compliance Jobs Report this week has personnel moves at Novartis, Boeing, NYU Langone Health, Inmarsat, MUFG, and lots more. In other news, Great Women in Compliance is publishing a book, we have a few job openings for your consideration, and our Meme of the Week goes out to disciplinarians.

A special thanks this week to all the compliance people sending me tips and links to keep this report going. We need your help to make the Report work, so send me some news! If you have a tip to pass along, email me at [email protected] or find me on LinkedIn.

Compliance Jobs News

We begin in Hamburg, Germany, Jonathan Vogelsang has joined Novartis as global business franchise risk and compliance officer. He comes to Novartis from AstraZeneca, where he held various compliance roles for AZ’s Germany operations since 2015.

Over at Boeing, Colleen Lyons has moved up from senior ethics adviser to “executive leadership development innovator,” which seems to involve developing training programs so executives truly practice ethical conduct rather than just talk about it. Lyons has been with Boeing since 2013.

Rachel Rice Ackman has joined NYU Langone Health as director of research integrity and compliance. Ackman previously worked as research compliance officer at Dana-Farber Cancer Institute in Boston, and as a compliance officer at Massachusetts General Hospital before that. We frown on anyone moving from Boston to New York but otherwise wish her well.

Angel Olivas has an expanded role at Timken Co., the manufacturing conglomerate based in Ohio. Olivas had been global ethics and compliance manager; his new title is manager for ethics and compliance plus global data privacy. Presumably one should send him a congratulatory note on Signal.

In the privacy world, Jonathan Cantor just moved from deputy chief compliance officer of the Department of Homeland Security to deputy chief compliance officer at Truist, the terribly named bank that resulted from the merger of SunTrust and BB&T last year.

Also in privacy, FIS just promoted Patrick O’Kane from data privacy counsel to head of privacy and legal counsel. He’s based in London.

Weed update: legalized pot business Curaleaf has named James Shorris chief compliance officer. Shorris was last seen at BMO Capital Markets, where he was chief compliance officer until late 2019.

Sharmil McKee has joined Goeppert, a lab equipment business in Pennsylvania, as compliance officer. McKee comes to the firm from Eagleville Hospital, where she had been chief compliance officer.

In Bulgaria, Sonya Bozhkova has been named compliance lead at online gambling business EGT Interactive. She comes to EGT from IT services firm SBTech, where she had been head of compliance.

AstenJohnson, a paper products company based in South Carolina, has named Shariane Taylor assistant general counsel for compliance. Taylor previously worked at Tronox Holdings, a mining business, where she had been deputy general counsel and chief compliance officer.

Biotech firm Oncopeptides has named Dan Moynihan head of U.S. legal and compliance. Moynihan comes to Oncopeptides from Akcea Therapeutics, where he had been chief compliance officer. Oncopeptides is a Swedish firm but its U.S. operations, and Moynihan, are based in Boston.

Ankur Shah has joined Tradewind, a financial services firm in the United Arab Emirates, as senior compliance officer. Shah previously worked as a divisional compliance director for Credit Europe Bank, also in the UAE.

Mitsubishi UFJ Financial Group just hired Krupal Patel as risk program manager. She comes to the firm from Rabobank, where she had been an auditor.

Inmarsat, the satellite communications provider based in London, has promoted Lindy Davies-Myatt from global compliance director to senior director of global compliance. She has been with the firm in various roles since 2016.

VersaBank, a “branchless” business-to-business bank in Canada, has named Tammie Ashton associate chief risk officer. Ashton previously worked at BioConnect, an IT services firm in Ontario, as general counsel.

More in risk officers: WSFS Bank, a regional bank based in Delaware, has named Michael Reed chief risk officer. Most recently Reed was a partner in the financial services and corporate groups at law firm Covington & Burling.

And Jenitha John, last seen at FirstRand Group in South Africa where she was chief audit executive, just turned up as CEO of the Independent Regulatory Board for Auditors, the body that oversees auditor and audit firms in South Africa. John is also senior vice-chair for the global board of the Institute of Internal Auditors

Mobile phone maker Ericsson is looking for a compliance officer for allegation management. Job is based in Stockholm.

Farm Credit Mid-America is looking for a chief compliance officer. True to the agriculture co-op’s name, the job is based in Kentucky. Major, Lindsey & Africa is the recruitment firm handling the placement.

Bank of the West is hiring a vice president for sanctions compliance. Job is based in Nebraska, which, to my estimation, is not the west.
