The Compliance Jobs Report continues as always! We have new hires at Vulcan Materials, Berkadia, Applied Materials, and elsewhere. Also a few promotions to note, a bundle of news from compliance vendors, and jobs from Seattle to Silicon Valley to Kansas City. Plus our Meme of the Week.
As always, thank you to all the compliance people sending me tips and links to keep this report going. We need your help to make the Report work, so send me some news! If you have a tip to pass along, email me at [email protected] or find me on LinkedIn.
Compliance Jobs News
We begin with Vulcan Materials, which just hired Todd Freeman as vice president of internal audit. Freeman comes to Vulcan from McDermott International, where he had been chief audit executive — since 2002! We wish him well moving to a new company after so long.
Anne Takher has joined Applied Materials as senior director of ethics and compliance. Takher had been working at ON Semiconductor for the prior 18 months as senior director for legal compliance, and prior to that was associate director of ethics and compliance at Intel.
In Dallas, Liz Gifford is the new chief compliance officer at U.S. Dermatology Partners. Gifford previously worked at Steward Health Care in Dallas, where she had been deputy compliance and privacy officer for the Steward healthcare system.
Promoted: Michelle Nader, at health insurance giant Anthem Inc., to chief ethics and privacy officer. Nader has been with Anthem or its predecessor Wellpoint since the 1990s, and prior to this promotion was vice president of compliance for clinical operations.
Also promoted: Michelle Hutchinson, at insurance firm Grinnell Mutual, to chief audit executive. Hutchinson has been with Grinnell since 2013 and had been director of auditing services since 2013. She’d also been interim CAE for the last year; nice to see her patience rewarded.
Remember Jason Lomax, last seen earlier this spring as chief compliance officer for Iron Mountain? He just turned up as chief compliance officer for Millennium Trust, a financial firm that provides retirement planning services.
Beth Furumo has joined Oil-Dri Corporation of America as director of risk and compliance strategy. Furumo previously worked as an independent consultant — “retired-ish” is how she described it on her LinkedIn profile. (But like the Mob, just when you think you’re out, compliance keeps pulling you back in…) Some of you might also remember Furumo from her time at Johnson Controls, where she spent most of the 2010s in various compliance roles.
And Paul Zikmund has joined Berkadia, a real estate firm, as chief enterprise risk and compliance officer. Since 2019 Zikmund had been teaching and working in forensics and investigations for advisory firm Baker Tilly; you might also remember him from his eight years at Bunge, where he was deputy compliance officer.
Milestones
Fernanda Beraldi is celebrating five years at Cummins Corp. These days she is senior director of ethics and compliance there.
Dwight Peveler has joined the ethics committee of USA Shooting, the governing body for Olympics shooting sports. Peveler also has a day job as compliance coordinator at Kimball International.
Brian Reilly, chief auditor at insurance giant Travelers, has been elected to the board of directors for the Connecticut Society of Certified Public Accountants.
Vendors & Service Providers
ACA Compliance, an advisory and technology firm, just raised $40 million in funding. The business has also hired a bunch of new senior executives this year, so you’re likely to hear more from ACA soon.
Customer win: The California High-Speed Rail Authority says it has decided to use Galvanize for audit and risk management oversight of its high-speed train development.
AuditBoard, a competitor to Galvanize, has hired a new CEO: Scott Arnold, who most recently was president of Shutterfly Enterprise.
And Convercent has just relaunched its online ethics & compliance community, called Converge Community. Free to join.
