Compliance Jobs Report: Aug. 14
This week’s Compliance Jobs Report has more drama at Wells Fargo (the CCO leaving), plus new hires at Amazon, STADA, Danske Bank, and elsewhere. We have job openings from Houston to Los Angeles to Michigan, and our Meme of the Week goes out to corporate reorganizations everywhere.
As always, thank you to all the compliance people sending me tips and links to keep this report going. We need your help to make the Report work, so send me some news! If you have a tip to pass along, email me at [email protected] or find me on LinkedIn.
Compliance Jobs News
We begin at Wells Fargo, where chief compliance officer Mike Roemer is bolting after two years on the job. According to news reports, Roemer is leaving after new CEO Charlie Scharf decided not to proceed with a reorganization plan that would integrate risk and compliance into one function. Each Wells Fargo division will have its own chief risk officer instead, which means diminished authority for Roemer, so he’s leaving.
Apparently Roemer will be succeeded at Wells Fargo by Paula Dominick, chief compliance officer for Credit Suisse’s U.S. operations since 2016. Interestingly enough, Credit Suisse just announced plans to integrate its own risk and compliance functions several weeks ago.
The STADA Group, a pharmaceutical firm based in Germany, has named Timur Khasanov-Batirov head of compliance for its Russia operations. Khasanov-Batirov comes to STADA from Dr. Reddy’s Labs, where he had been Russia compliance officer for the last five years.
Kristel Imeraj has joined Koch Industries as audit manager. Imeraj previously worked at Georgia-Pacific (a Koch Industries subsidiary) for seven years, most recently as audit manager for corporate compliance. She’s based in Atlanta.
In Argentina, Novartis has assigned Debora Dansker to a new role as senior manager for licensing compliance and “third party risk management champion.” (We feel like there should be an exclamation point at the end of that title.) Dansker has been with Novartis since 2018 and previously was a country compliance officer for Argentina and Uruguay.
Altran Capgemini, the consulting firm that emerged last year from the merger of, you guessed it, Altran and Capgemini, has named Deborah Ann Cenci assistant vice president for regulatory affairs, quality, and compliance. Cenci comes to Altran Capgemini from DIVA Pharmaceuticals, where she had run compliance and regulatory affairs for two decades.
Amazon just hired Anne Toth as “director of Alexa trust,” a title that certainly captures modern corporate risk challenges. Toth has previously worked in privacy and trust for Slack, Google, and even Yahoo, where she was chief trust officer 10 years ago.
Berry Global, a plastics manufacturer in Evansville, Ind., has named Chad Kleist director of corporate compliance. Kleist comes to Berry Global from McNeilus Truck & Manufacturing, where he had been senior manager for quality and continuous improvement.
Danske Bank — you know, the Denmark bank implicated several years ago in the largest money-laundering scandal ever — has named Jatin Aggarwal senior compliance officer for transaction monitoring and financial crimes compliance. Aggarwal previously worked for Standard Chartered in Poland, where he was a senior compliance officer in financial crimes compliance. Aggarwal is now based in Copenhagen.
Bank of America has named Heidi McIntyre “senior vice president for life safety strategy,” which is another way of saying McIntyre is in charge of OSHA compliance and policy issues. She has been with BofA for 13 years in various anti-money laundering roles.
And down in Australia, MLC Wealth (the wealth management business of National Australia Bank) has named David Clarke chief risk officer. Clarke comes to MLC from Queensland Investment Corp., where he had been chief risk officer for seven years.
