Compliance Jobs Report: Aug. 28
Another belly-buster of a Compliance Jobs Report, with more than two dozen new hires, promotions, and other personnel news of note. A new CCO at Baker Hughes, two hires at Assurant, even two items from New Zealand in one week! We have job openings in tech, healthcare, and healthcare tech; plus our Meme of the Week.
As always, thank you to all the compliance people sending me tips and links to keep this report going. We need your help to make the Report work, so send me some news! If you have a tip to pass along, email me at [email protected] or find me on LinkedIn.
Compliance Jobs News
We begin with oil services giant Baker Hughes, which just named Luis Kolster chief compliance officer. Kolster comes to Baker Hughes from Walmart, where he had been vice president of global compliance operations. He succeeds Kara Gordon, who joined Baker Hughes as CCO in May 2019 and left earlier this summer. We’re not sure where she is right now.
Another of the Walmart diaspora: Shalini Chakravorty has joined Indian telecommunications firm PhonePe as chief ethics and compliance officer. Chakravorty had previously been a senior vice president at Walmart working on international compliance issues.
Remember James Fries, supposed chief compliance officer at Wirecard and then promoted to CEO before he even arrived in July, when the company imploded? Well, now it looks like Fries is on his way out the door too. The company is in bankruptcy and its administrator has canceled his contract. Life comes at you fast.
The Teacher Retirement System of Texas, which manages $160 billion in assets for Texas educators, has promoted Heather Traeger from chief compliance officer to general counsel. Traeger has been with TRS since 2014; no word yet on who might take over her compliance duties.
Citigroup has named Sarah Stewart chief country compliance officer for Australia and New Zealand. Stewart comes to Citi from Tabcorp, a gambling business in Australia, where she had been general manager for risk and compliance. She succeeds James Davies, whom Citi named a regional compliance officer and dispatched to Hong Kong. Also — why is the role called “chief country compliance officer,” when New Zealand is a separate country? Go Kiwis!
Also in New Zealand news: Liz Bushnell has been promoted to head of operational risk for Rabobank New Zealand. She has been with the bank since last October. This is the first time the Compliance Jobs Report has ever had two New Zealand items in one week.
Lisa Mirabella has joined Aflac Global Investments as vice president for investment compliance. Mirabella previously worked at Epoch Investment Partners, where she had been director of compliance since 2015.
Assurant has made two ethics and compliance hires lately. First, Monica Locklear is global ethics and compliance manager; she’ll be working out of Lake Oswego, Oreg. Locklear comes to Assurant after four years at Biotronik. Second, Brian Patterson has joined as director of ethics. He comes to the insurer after 20 years at Capital One in various compliance and ethics roles.
Phyllis Skene-Stimac is now the full-time chief compliance officer and executive director at the wonderfully named Skrill Inc., a digital payments firm. Skene-Stimac had been interim CCO for two years and also did consulting on the side; some of you might also remember her from her six years at MoneyGram, where she was CCO until 2016.
In Durham, N.C., Bioventus has named Katrina Church chief compliance officer. Church joins Bioventus after nearly 11 years with the Merz Group, most recently as global compliance officer for Merz Pharma GmbH. She will also report directly to Bioventus’ CEO Ken Reali.

Kveragas comes to the bank from law firm Blank & Rome, where he had been an information security officer; and he’s also worked at Zenbanx and ING/Capital One.
Lockheed Martin has named Eunice Young an ethics analyst manager. Young has worked at Lockheed since 2007, and previously had been a senior planner in supply chain management. Ethics is, of course, a way cooler job.
