Compliance Jobs Report: Sept. 4

What better way to begin Labor Day Weekend than reading the Compliance Jobs Report? This week we have news from the SEC, Robinhood, a bunch of healthcare systems, a few universities, some cryptocurrency startups, and more. Job openings to note from California to Switzerland, and our Meme of the Week goes out to return-to-work plans.

As always, thank you to all the compliance people sending me tips and links to keep this report going. We need your help to make the Report work, so send me some news! If you have a tip to pass along, email me at mkelly@radicalcompliance.com or find me on LinkedIn.

Compliance Jobs News

We begin at the Securities and Exchange Commission, where Amy Mertz Brown is stepping down after two years as the agency’s chief compliance officer. No word yet on what Brown might do next, or who the next CCO for the agency might be. Stay tuned.

Fintech startup Robinhood — which apparently is under investigation by the SEC — just hired two people to staff up its compliance operations. Norm Askensas has come aboard as chief compliance officer for Robinhood’s financial team. He previously worked at Fidelity Investments as chief compliance officer for institutional and brokerage technology. Kelly Zigaitis is also joining as chief compliance officer for Robinhood’s securities team. She previously worked at Wells Fargo Advisors as head of oversight and controls.

Mastercard has hired Audrey Rampinelli as senior vice president of risk management and insurance services. Rampinelli comes to Mastercard after a few years running her own risk consulting firm; prior to that she was vice president of risk management at Loews Corp

In the United Arab Emirates, Aziz Mahdi has left his job at Standard Chartered as director of commercial and corporate banking conduct, to join the Central Bank of the UAE as an assistant director of banking supervision.

Compliance JobsSpeaking of Standard Chartered, the bank just hired Jamilia Grier as head of data and privacy operations, based out of Singapore. Grier comes to Standard Chartered from Marriott International, where she’d been vice president of legal and compliance for the Asia-Pacific region.

Our man in Milan, Edoardo Lazzarini, has joined GSK as ethics and compliance officer for Italy. Lazzarini had been doing consulting work for two years, and previously worked in European compliance roles for Takeda Pharmaceuticals, Zimmer Biomet, and other firms.

Michael Donnella has left his job as corporate compliance officer at Murphy Oil and is doing solo consulting work for the time being. Also relocated from Arkansas to Pennsylvania. Donnella had been at Murphy since 2012.

The Agung Sedayu Group, a real estate conglomerate in Indonesia, has promoted Samuel Harsono to group internal audit director. Harsono has been with Agung for six years in various internal audit roles.

Generics pharmaceutical giant Sandoz has assigned Ben Ferdinand Cruz to a new role as ethics, risk, and compliance head for its Asia operations. Cruz had previously been country head of ethics, risk, and compliance for the Philippines.

Sticking with the pharma world: Joanne Steele has joined UCB as corporate ethics and compliance lead, after seven years at Roche as a senior healthcare compliance manager. She’s based in London.

Oscar Health, a health insurance business in New York, has hired Carlos Victoria as senior manager for governance and risk. Victoria comes to Oscar Health from New York Presbyterian Hospital, where he had been manager of technology audit.

The intriguingly named Celsius Network, which actually is some cryptocurrency startup in London, has named Charles Roberts its money laundering reporting officer. Roberts previously had been head of compliance, risk, and “transformational change” at Travelex

And the Amber Group, another cryptocurrency startup in Hong Kong, has hired Kane Guo as chief compliance officer. Kane previously worked as head of legal and compliance for GaoTeng, an asset management firm in Hong Kong.

Remember Peter Stanos, formerly chief compliance officer at IASIS Healthcare until 2018? He just turned up at The Toledo Clinic in (naturally) Toledo, Ohio, as chief compliance officer. I wonder if they’re rivals to the Cleveland Clinic in softball.

Joe Reed, senior director of internal audit at the University of Kentucky, is getting a promotion to chief accountability officer and chief audit executive. He will report directly to university president Eli Capilouto.

Common Securitization Solutions, a player in the mortgage backed securities business, has named Jina Hong chief audit executive. Hong comes to CSS from HSBC, where she was head of global audit methodology in New York.

In Buffalo, N.Y., Niagara Falls Memorial Medical Center has rehired Anne Passalugo vice president of quality and corporate compliance. Passalugo had been at Niagara Memorial throughout the 2010s in various roles, including chief of quality and compliance from 2018 until January. She then worked at iCircle Services for a few months as vice president of compliance before her return.

David Silva has joined Collaborative Imaging, a healthcare business in Plano, Texas, as chief compliance officer. Silva comes to Collaborative from Baylor Scott & White Health, where he had spent a few years as vice president for regional compliance.

Here’s a sign of the times: Stevenson University in Baltimore has named Antionette Marbray as “chief compliance officer, Covid-19 operations.” Marbray previously worked at San Diego State University as associate vice president for student health and wellness. Other than giving up the San Diego climate, this seems like quite the interesting challenge.

YES Bank, a large consumer bank in India, has promoted Sumit Gupta to chief risk officer and Ashish Chandak to chief compliance officer. Both men have been with the bank for more than 10 years in various compliance, risk, and other management roles.

And over at the U.S. Justice Department, we have more reshuffling within the Fraud Section and Criminal Division. Robert Zink, head of the section, has been kicked upstairs to serve as acting deputy assistant attorney general for the Criminal Division. Which means Daniel Kahn, senior deputy chief of the fraud section, will be acting chief. Zink is filling the role previously held by John Cronan, whom the U.S. Senate recently confirmed as a federal judge.

Milestones

Laura McNamara is celebrating one year at Stony Brook Medicine, where she is compliance officer for clinical practice management.

Vendors & Service Providers

Jeff Press has joined consulting firm Compliance Risk Concepts as a senior regulatory compliance adviser. Some of you might remember Press from his time at Thrivent Financial, where he had been senior field risk manager in the mid-2010s.
