The Compliance Jobs Report this week has compliance hiring news from Carnival Corp., Softbank, Citigroup, Seqirus, Ericsson, and elsewhere. We learned where the former CCO of the SEC just turned up, we have a very fashionable compliance job posting to note, and our Meme of the Week goes out to Winne the Pooh fans.
As always, thank you to all the compliance people sending me tips and links to keep this report going. We need your help to make the Report work, so send me some news! If you have a tip to pass along, email me at [email protected] or find me on LinkedIn.
Compliance Jobs News
Carnival Corp. is back in the Jobs Report again, with news that the cruise company has named Peter Hutchison deputy chief ethics and compliance officer. Hutchison has already been with Carnival for three years as vice president for governance. In his new role, Hutchison will take point on investigations related to environmental, health, and safety issues — the compliance issues that left Carnival in water a lot hotter than the Caribbean last year. He will report to chief ethics and compliance officer Peter Anderson.
Also more news from Softbank, the giant, somewhat troubled Japanese investment bank: the firm has named Tim Mackey chief compliance officer. He succeeds Chad Fentress, who flew the coop earlier this year. Mackey has been deputy general counsel at Softbank for nearly two years, and also head of compliance in the Tokyo headquarters. He’ll report to the chief legal officer.
An update on Amy Mertz Brown, who stepped down as chief compliance officer for the Securities and Exchange Commission in August. She is now chief compliance officer for the Gurstel Law Firm, which represents creditors in collections cases. Mertz will work out of the firm’s Washington office.
Aya Elsayed has a new role in HSBC’s Egypt operations as customer due diligence manager. Elsayeed has been with HSBC for five years, and previously worked as a financial crimes compliance analyst.
Keel Point, a wealth management firm based in Huntsville, Alab., has named Clint Ward, former CCO at CIBC Private Wealth Management, chief compliance officer.
Michelle Scharfenberg just turned up at Avanos Medical in suburban Philadelphia as chief ethics and compliance officer. Scharfenberg was last seen leaving Cantel Medical earlier this spring, where she had been chief compliance officer for 15 months.
Mobile phone giant Ericsson has hired Jan Sprafke as head of compliance for its Europe operations, based in Germany. Sprafke comes to Ericsson from Bilfinger, where most recently he had been head of compliance awareness and prevention.
Seqirus, a flu vaccine manufacturer spun out of Novartis a few years ago, has named Brandy Duso business integrity lead for the Americas region. Duso previously worked at DBV Technologies as director of global ethics and compliance operations. Get your flu shots, people; we’ll have enough trouble with covid this winter as it is.
Scooped up: Jennifer Taylor, who is leaving her job as regional compliance officer for Bank of America in London, to join Citigroup as chief compliance officer for Citi’s institutional clients group. She’ll still be based in London.
MGM Resorts has named Robert Taylor head of its responsible gaming program for BetMGM, an online sports betting joint venture MGM has launched with GVC Holdings. In this role, Taylor will be responsible for developing training programs for BetMGM users and employees alike. Taylor has worked for MGM for nearly eight years, and previously was head of responsible gaming and military affairs for MGM’s other operations.
Insurance firm Assurant has hired Dimitry DiRienzo as chief accounting officer and controller. DiRenzo comes to Assurant from Chubb, where he had been CFO for IT and operations. (So, like, what else is there to be CFO of, after those things?)
Mindleap Health, a mental health startup in British Columbia, Canada, has hired Dyson Walker as chief compliance officer. Dyson comes to Mindleap after 15 years working for the Ministry of Health in British Columbia, where he helped develop the province’s tele-health capabilities.
And down in Dallas, Steven Pochet says he is now a senior SOX controls analyst at a Fortune 500 firm he declines to identify. He had previously been a senior internal auditor for Mr. Cooper, a mortgage lender based in Dallas. We thank Mr. Pochet for adding a bit of mystery to this week’s Jobs Report.
In London, Paul Hockley is celebrating one year as group ethics and compliance director at McDonald Mott.
In Louisville, Ky., Gerald Kral is celebrating five years as head of ethics, compliance, and risk at Brown-Forman.
