Compliance Jobs Report: Nov. 13

Another big Compliance Jobs Report this week. We have people leaving Etihad Airways, FirstEnergy, Duke University, and elsewhere; promotions at Endo, Citigroup, and Smucker’s, to name a few. New people hired at Ares Management, COPEC, and more. Plus our usual job openings of note and our Meme of the Week.

As always, thank you to all the compliance people sending me tips and links to keep this report going. We need your help to make the Report work, so send me some news! If you have a tip to pass along, email me at mkelly@radicalcompliance.com or find me on LinkedIn.

Compliance Jobs News

We begin with Herbalife, the multi-marketing supplements business that settled a major FCPA case three months ago. The company says it is shifting chief financial officer Bosco Chiu into a newly created chief risk officer role. Chiu has been with Herbalife for 27 years in various accounting and financial roles. Hmmm.

Mutaz Saleh, head of risk and compliance for Etihad Airways for the 18 months, is leaving the company as the airline streamlines operations to be a smaller carrier in the Mideast region. Apparently general counsel Henning zur Hausen will take over ethics and compliance responsibilities, while risk management will go to Adam Boukadida, heading up a new corporate strategy group.

The housecleaning continues at FirstEnergy Corp., which has been parting ways with executives implicated in a bribery scandal involving the company and state political figures in Ohio. This week word came that FirstEnergy has “separated” from Ebony Yeboah-Amankwah, the company’s general counsel and chief ethics officer. Yeboah-Amankwah had also headed up the company’s regulatory affairs division in the 2010s.

COPEC, one of largest energy companies in Chile, has named Lorena Piñeiro chief ethics and compliance officer. Piñeiro comes to COPEC after a few years teaching and consulting in the region. She also had been head of governance, ethics, and compliance for the retailer Falabella in the 2010s.

Wealth management firm Cary Street Partners has hired Jessica Thompson as chief compliance officer and corporate counsel. Thompson comes to the Richmond, Va., firm from Harris Williams, where she had been director of risk and compliance.

Monica Harris has joined Ares Management Corp. as chief compliance officer. Harris was last seen at the semi-secretive Carlyle Group, where she had been chief compliance officer for two of Carlyle’s broker-dealer affiliates until September 2019.

Endo International has promoted Olga Zinavenka from deputy compliance officer for international issues and investigations to compliance officer for global monitoring. Zinavenka has been with the pharmaceutical firm for two years.

David Falcone has left his job as director of privacy, ethics, and compliance at Duke University to take up a new role at Merz Aesthetics as associate vice president of global compliance. Still working in Raleigh, N.C.

Citigroup has given Melanie Marino a new role, shifting her from senior vice president of the corporate policy group to senior vice president for electronic communications compliance. Marino has been with Citi since 2011.

J.M. Smucker Co., in the Jobs Report for the second week in a row! The maker of jams and other snacky foods has promoted Brian White from director of global compliance and responsible sourcing to vice president of compliance.

Norwegian renewable energy firm Statkraft has given Paula Pereira a new role. She is moving up from regional compliance officer for Brazil to senior compliance officer. Unclear if she’ll move from Brazil to Norway.

Insurance firm Tokio Marine HCC has promoted Marcella Pennington from corporate compliance manager to compliance director. She’s been with Tokio almost 10 years, based in Houston.

In Melbourne, Australia, Carla Aldemir has joined Commonwealth Bank as a compliance manager. Aldemir comes to the bank after four years with MLC Life Insurance, where she had been a compliance consultant.

In Chicago, Mariette Cutler has joined AbbVie as senior global compliance officer. Cutler had previously worked at MacLean-Fogg Co. as a compliance project supervisor.

Software maker Dassault Systèmes hired Ray Zhou earlier this fall to be compliance officer for the Asia-Pacific region, working out of Shanghai. Zhou previously had worked at Budweiser Brewing Co. as senior compliance director for Asia-Pacific. Presumably he gets considerably less free beer in his new gig.

Wells Fargo has promoted Julia Mold to senior research control officer “working on strategic special projects related to financial crimes risk management,” which probably keeps you mighty busy when your employer is Wells Fargo. Mold has been with the compliancely challenged bank since 2014 in various compliance roles.

Cindy DePalo has joined pharmaceutical firm Boehringer Ingelheim as associate director of ethics and compliance training. DePalo comes to Boehringer after three years at Allergan, where she led the global compliance operations and training program.

And Christian Dior Couture, maker of clothes way too stylish for me, has promoted Lorenzo Maria di Vecchio (jeez, even the employee names sound stylish) from head of ethics and compliance to legal director for the EMEA region.
