Compliance Jobs Report: Dec. 11

The Compliance Jobs Report this week is another big one. Hitachi has named its first-ever CCO, and we also have new hires at Farmer Mac, Kaleo, Barclays, Softline, and elsewhere. Promotions at Walmart, Aker Energy, and Nissan. We have three job openings of note, plus our compliance Meme of the Week.

Compliance Jobs News

We begin with Japanese conglomerate Hitachi, which just named David Karas its first-ever chief compliance officer. This is a promotion for Karas; he had been head of compliance for the company’s digital division, Hitachi Ventara, since 2007. Karas will be based in Santa Clara, Calif.

Michelle Nichols has joined Farmer Mac, the government-backed financial firm that provides credit to farmers, as director of compliance. Nichols was last seen at retailer Aaron’s, where she had been senior director of culture, talent, and diversity until earlier this summer. 

In Ghana, Aker Energy has promoted Adobea Quayson from senior compliance officer to compliance manager for its Ghana operations. She’s been with Aker since early 2019.

Walmart has promoted Ezinne Ubosi to senior director of ethics and compliance for its neighborhood markets unit. Ubosi has been with Walmart in various compliance roles since 2010.

Compliance jobsIn Manchester, U.K., Rob Barker has joined Barclays as vice president and chief controls officer. Barker comes to the bank from Booking.com, where he had been head of risk and compliance for its transport division since 2017. 

Scott Carr has left his job as chief risk officer at First Savings Bank in Jeffersonville, Ind., to join the Federal Deposit Insurance Corp. as a compliance examiner. 

Kevin Espinoza has joined Kaleo, a pharmaceutical firm based in Richmond, Va., as chief compliance officer. Espinoza comes to Kaleo after five years at Boston Scientific (and BTG, which Boston Scientific acquired in 2019), where he had been corporate compliance and privacy officer until earlier this year. 

Sierra Pacific Mortgage, a mortgage originator based in Folsom, Calif., has hired Joseph Morgan as chief compliance officer. Morgan previously worked as chief compliance officer at Celebrity Home Loans, and worked in compliance at a variety of financial firms prior to that. 

Staying in the mortgage business: Promontory MortgagePath, a provider of tech software and services to the industry, has hired Elisha Werner as chief compliance officer for mortgage operations. Prior to Promontory, Werner had been chief compliance counsel for Opus Capital Markets Consultants

In Mexico, Ayari Martín del Campo Díaz has joined Boehringer Ingelheim as the company’s ethics and compliance officer for Mexico and Central America. She comes to Boehringer from consulting firm Comply Latam, where she spent the last year; prior to that Díaz led Latin America compliance for Schiff Nutrition International.  

Jose Oxholm-Uribe, last seen in February leaving his job as chief compliance officer at auto parts manufacturer Meritor, has just resurfaced. He’s now general counsel at Hyliion, a Texas company making parts for electric vehicles in the trucking business.

Nissan Motor Co. has expanded the duties for Hideo Hatano. He now runs internal audit for the company’s Japan and Southeast Asia operations; previously, Hatano was head of internal audit for Japan only. He joined Nissan in 2019.

TCF Bank has named Lindsay Yousif chief compliance officer. Yousif has been with TCF for six years, most recently as deputy chief compliance officer. She succeeds Jesse Schwab, who left TCF to join Bell Bank a few weeks ago.

Lincoln Financial Group has promoted Brandy Smith to be vice president and counsel for workplace diversity. Smith had previously been Lincoln’s chief compliance officer for group protection, and has worked in various legal and compliance roles at the firm for eight years. 

Gareth Tipton has joined Softline Group, a cybersecurity firm headquartered in London, as global chief compliance officer. Tipton previously worked at BT in various roles, and had been group director for ethics and compliance at BT since 2013; he left that role in April. 

Looks like Sofia DiCaro is leaving her job as chief compliance officer at the Cynosure Group, a financial services firm in Utah. The governor-elect of Utah, Spencer Cox, recently announced that DiCaro will join his administration as head of the state’s Office of Management and Budget. DiCaro worked in state government in the 2010s, and was even a Utah state rep for two years. 

Oklahoma University has hired Shaniqua Crawford as its new Title IX compliance coordinator and institutional equity and equal opportunity officer. She succeeds Bobby Mason, who stepped down from that role in April to take a job as chief compliance officer at Texas State University. Crawford comes to OU from Lawrence University in Wisconsin, which she held a similar Title IX role. 

And Diem, the cryptocurrency payments group formerly known as the Libra Association and backed by Facebook, has recruited Saumya Bhavsar to be general counsel of its payments subsidiary. Bhavsar joins Diem from Credit Suisse, where she had been global head of regulatory affairs. This means she will work again with Sterling Daines, Diem’s chief compliance officer, who previously had been Credit Suisse’s head of financial crimes compliance.

In India, Gaurav Khemani is celebrating one year as assistant VP for global consumer bank compliance at Citigroup

In San Francisco, Aaron Tidman is celebrating one year as global compliance counsel for Pinterest

In Chattanooga, Tenn., Julie Dean is celebrating five years at Erlanger Health System, where she is chief compliance officer. 

Vendors & Service Providers

David Petrisky has joined the Institute of Internal Auditors as its new director of professional practices for IT audit. Petrisky comes to the IIA from MARTA, the public transit system of metro Atlanta, where he had been IT audit director for two years. 

Gaurav Tyagi, previously the deputy general manager for compliance at CBRE’s operations in India, has joined consulting firm Nangia Andersen as associate director of the firm’s forensic investigations practice. 

Vendor news: Txtsmarter, a messaging archiving and compliance system, has struck a partnership with SteelEye, which offers employee communication surveillance tools. 

Open Req Orders

Ericsson is looking for a compliance officer for M&A integration. Job is based in Plano, Texas, just outside Dallas.

Looking to leave the corporate grind for the Big 4 grind? KPMG is looking for a managing partner to join its forensics and regulatory compliance practice. Job is based in New York. 

Schindler Elevator Corp. is looking for an “area compliance officer.” Schindler isn’t expressly clear on what this area entails, but the job location says Los Angeles.
