Compliance Jobs Report: Dec. 31

Welcome to the final Compliance Jobs Report of 2020! We have new hires this week at BMW, Sobi, Zai Labs, the AICPA, and others; plus internal promotions at Timken, MUFG, the City of Chicago, and Autodesk. Job openings to note in Washington, Texas, and Georgia; and our Meme of the Week is just a happy new year to all. After 2020, we deserve it.

As always, thank you to all the compliance people sending me tips and links to keep this report going. We need your help to make the Report work, so send me some news! If you have a tip to pass along, email me at [email protected] or find me on LinkedIn.

Compliance Jobs News

Our first stop this week is automaker BMW, which just named Christoph Klahold chief compliance officer starting Jan. 1. He joins BMW after a few months as a senior adviser at Boston Consulting Group; prior to that, Klahold spent two years as general counsel and compliance officer at Munich Re. Drive on!

Next, TimkenSteel is promoting its vice president of ethics and compliance, Kristine Syrvalin, to general counsel. Syrvalin has been with Timken since 2014. She succeeds Frank DiPiero, who is leaving the company after six years as top legal officer.

Aleksej Dainko has accepted a new job as chief compliance officer of Sobi, the Swedish pharmaceutical firm. He starts there in January. Dainko will be joining Sobi after four years at LEO Pharma, where he had been head of ethics and compliance.

The City of Chicago is temporarily promoting Celia Meza from senior ethics adviser to acting corporation counsel (that is, the city’s general counsel) in the administration of mayor Lori Lightfoot. Meza joined the administration as its top ethics and compliance officer 18 months ago, and had once been deputy corporation counsel; so she can certainly hold down the fort while the mayor searches for a permanent new legal chief.

Meta Payments, a fintech firm headquartered in Dallas, has named Travis Davis senior vice president for business controls. Davis previously worked at Metrocare Services for a few months as chief compliance officer, and prior to that was vice president of compliance and regulatory affairs at Steward Health Care

Our compliance contact in Greenland, Tommy Ege Kristensen, has left his job as chief compliance officer for Royal Arctic Line. He has joined Cadvi, a legal services firm in the capital city of Nuuk, as senior legal manager.

Biotech firm Zai Lab has hired Ann Beasley as chief compliance officer. Beasley comes to the firm, with operations split between Shanghai and Boston, from consulting firm Guidehouse, where she had been a director.

In London, Madalena Lari has joined GLAS, a loan trustee services firm, as a compliance analyst. She previously worked on the customer due diligence team at BP.

In Japan, Mitsubishi UFJ Financial Group is promoting chief compliance officer Junichi Hanzawa to be CEO of MUFG’s core banking unit. He succeeds current CEO Kanetsugu Mike, who is moving upstairs to be chairman of the bank’s holding company. Hanzawa has been with MUFG since 1988, spending most of his career in financial planning roles.

California software design firm Autodesk has promoted Lyndsey Conrad from senior compliance counsel to director of compliance. Conrad has been with Autodesk since 2017.

We missed this until now, but last month Travelport promoted D’Ree Cooper from senior legal director to vice president of global compliance and ethics. Cooper is based in Atlanta and has been with Travelport for 15 months.

Patricia Gatley has joined Prometheus Laboratories in San Diego as compliance officer. She comes to the company from Millennium Health, where she had been director of compliance.

Jeanine Rausch has joined DIA Portugal Supermercados, a supermarket chain based in Portugal, to work in its compliance function. Rausch spent the previous five years as a solo compliance consultant in Portugal, and in the early 2010s worked for Google in Brazil.

Cybersecurity firm Cerberus Sentinel has named Baan Alsinawi chief compliance officer. Alsinawi has been with Cerberus since 2019 after the firm acquired her business, TalaTek, which she still runs as president.

Cybin, a life sciences company in Atlanta that works on psychedelic drug development, has named Aaron Bartlone vice president for quality assurance and regulatory affairs. Bartlone tripped over to Cybin from AB Dynamix, another Atlanta-area firm dabbling in life sciences, where he had been managing director for quality, regulatory affairs, and supply chain issues.

In Dubai, Ebrahim Asadi Al-Marzuqi has joined First Abu Dhabi Bank as assistant vice president in the financial investigations unit. Al-Marzuqi previously worked at Mashreq Bank for four years in several anti-money laundering roles.

And the Association of International Certified Professional Accountants has a new chief auditor: Jennifer Burns, who starts at the AICPA on Jan. 25. Burns is coming to the association from Deloitte, where she was a partner in the firm’s national office for audit and assurance. She succeeds Bob Dohrer, who returned to RSM International to be chief operating officer.
