It’s On: SCCE Conference in Vegas
The Society of Corporate Compliance & Ethics will hold its SCCE 2021 conference in person in Las Vegas this September, returning to live events for the first time since the pandemic began 14 months ago.
SCCE president Gerry Zack announced the news Wednesday morning in an email message to SCCE members:
I am excited to announce that we will be holding this year’s CEI live and in person in Las Vegas from Sept. 19-22. We will follow all health guidelines and practice social distancing, but the improving situation means that we will be able to come together once again.
I can’t wait to see old friends and meet new ones, and we’ve consistently heard that many of you are eager to reconnect and network as well.
Zack also promised that for compliance professionals who aren’t able to attend the conference in person, SCCE will still offer some portion of the event virtually. Exactly how SCCE will do that, I’m not sure; details to follow.
As of this morning, registration for the 2021 conference isn’t yet available; nor has any specific agena been announced. The event will happen at the Aria Hotel, and I’m so pleased about today’s news that I might actually reserve a room there this year, rather than crash at some low-rent dump further down the Strip like I usually do.
The SCCE 2021 conference won’t be the first in-person compliance event since the pandemic began; that distinction goes to compliance folks in New Zealand who pulled off a conference last November. But SCCE will likely be the largest gathering yet — and, hopefully, a harbinger of more live events to come, as people continue to get vaccinated and the pandemic continues to recede. (Several sources tell me they’ll be announcing other in-person compliance events for the second half of 2021 quite soon.)
We should all give a round of applause to the entire SCCE team, for persevering under incredibly difficult circumstances over the last year and now declaring the rally point for post-pandemic life. I’ve said previously that if the SCCE holds its conference in person, I’ll be standing on my chair whooping and hollering on the first day. I hope you’ll do the same.
