As always, thank you to all the compliance people sending me tips and links to keep this report going. We need your help to make the Report work, so send me some news! If you have a tip to pass along, email me at [email protected] or find me on LinkedIn.
Compliance Jobs News
Another week, another fintech startup hiring a compliance officer. This time around the firm in question is Brex, founded in 2017 by two Brazilian college dropouts to offer credit cards, payment technology and other services to corporate customers. Now the business is valued at $4.7 billion. Anyway, it just hired Frederick Reynolds as its first chief compliance officer. Reynolds comes to the business from Barclays, where he had been global head of financial crime since 2016.
Speaking of financial crime: Bradley Bismark, last seen in August 2020 stepping down as head of financial crimes compliance for HSBC, just turned up at Microsoft. He’s director of global risk and compliance operations, working in upstate New York.
In Brazil, Luiz Eduardo Lemes has joined dermatology & cosmetics firm Galderma (a Swiss business spun out of Nestle and L’Oreal) as head of ethics and compliance for Latin America. Lemes comes to Galderma from Takeda, where he had been an ethics and compliance manager in Sao Paolo.
WSP USA, a civil engineering firm headquartered in New York, has hired Laura Cordero as ethics manager. Cordero had been senior compliance associate at Foundation Medicine for the last 18 months, working in Boston.
Trinity Health, one of the largest Catholic health care systems in the nation, has named Dawn Geisert chief integrity and compliance officer; she starts in that role June 1. Geisert joins Trinity Health from Beaumont Health, where she served as chief compliance officer since 2015. She has big shoes to fill, too: Geisert succeeds Mike Holper, who retired as Trinity’s first integrity & compliance officer after 20 years on the job.
Compliance news from Portugal: Susana Gomes has surfaced at Daiichi Sankyo’s operations there, as legal compliance officer. Gomes had spent 11 years in various compliance roles at the Portugal operations of Celgene, until she left the company last summer.
In Singapore, Franck Mamaty has joined Bolloré Logistics as regional compliance manager for the Asia-Pacific region. Mamaty had previously been at environmental firm Engie for a few years, most recently as deputy ethics and compliance officer for Asia-Pacific.
Tiedemann Advisors, an independent investment management firm for ultra-high networth people (so, not me), has named Whitney Fogle Lewis chief compliance officer and deputy general counsel. Lewis previously spent seven years at Carlson Capital, most recently as deputy chief legal officer. She’s based in Dallas.
NewRez Corp., a mortgage lending and servicing firm, has hired Raj Singh as chief risk officer. Singh comes to NewRez from Genworth Financial, where he had been chief risk officer for global mortgage insurance.
Indianapolis people, remember Peter Kalmbach, who ran HIPAA compliance for Stericycle in the late 2010s? After three years at advisory firm Crowe, he has returned to the corporate grind as privacy counsel for Zimmer Biomet.
Alicia Opal Bonaire has joined Sumitovant Biopharma as executive director of compliance. She comes to Sumitovant from Karyopharm Therapeutics, where she had been director of compliance operations.
Austin Lord has joined Devoted Health as senior manager for marketing compliance. He joined Devoted after seven years at Tufts Health Plan, most recently as senior Medicare compliance business partner.
In Dallas, Jami Bailey has joined Microsoft as policy lifecycle manager. Bailey comes to the software giant from AT&T. She worked there in various roles over 14 years, most recently as policy governance lead.
Ericsson has reassigned Zhuldyz Kydyrbayeva, from compliance officer for Kazakhstan to compliance officer for allegation management, based in the Sweden headquarters. She’s been with Ericsson since last October.
And Gwen Hassan is leaving CNH Industrial, where she had been managing director for global compliance and ethics since 2015. Her role was eliminated as part of a restructuring, so presumably a successor at CNH won’t be forthcoming.
Milestones
Marcela Cubillos Salcedo is celebrating five years at Pepsico, where she is compliance & ethics manager for the Andean region and Venezuela.
Ken Schindler is celebrating five years as chief compliance officer at Empower Retirement.
