Compliance Jobs Report: May 21
A ton of compliance jobs news in the financial sector this week, from Deutsche Bank to Apollo Global to Circle, and several more. Other personnel items come from General Electric, AbbVie, Flowserve, Molson Coors, TAMKO, and elsewhere. Our Meme of the Week goes out to everyone frustrated with ESG disclosure.
As always, thank you to all the compliance people sending me tips and links to keep this report going. We need your help to make the Report work, so send me some news! If you have a tip to pass along, email me at [email protected] or find me on LinkedIn.
Compliance Jobs News
We begin with Deutsche Bank, which just promoted its general counsel for the Americas region Joe Salama to be global head of anti-financial crime compliance. Salama has been with Deutsche Bank in various roles since 2010. He will split his time between DB’s global headquarters in Frankfurt and New York, “to ensure close collaboration with all our regulators.” Salama is succeeding Stephan Wilken, who had been head of anti-financial crime since 2018. Apparently Wilken will remain at Deutsche Bank, but we don’t yet know in what role.
Sticking with financial services: Apollo Global Management has named Yael Levy chief compliance officer. (Yes, that Apollo Management, where co-founder and CEO Leon Black had to resign amid questions about his ties to notorious sex trafficker Jeffrey Epstein.) Levy comes to Apollo after 20 years in various roles at Goldman Sachs. She was recently Goldman’s head of compliance for its merchant banking division, and held the title of managing director.
Fintech firm Circle has hired Mandeep Walia as chief compliance and risk officer. Walia had been working at Novi, a fintech subsidiary of Facebook, where he had been chief compliance officer and head of enterprise risk management since 2018.
Wells Fargo has given Danai Franklin a new role. Franklin had been “execution team leader” (best job title ever) for third-party consumer law oversight; now he’s a compliance officer for the consumer credit card division.
Promoted: Katherine Brennan, at professional services firm Marsh McLennan, from deputy general counsel and chief compliance officer to general counsel of Marsh’s brokerage unit. Brennan has been with the firm since 2017; no word on whether someone will fill the chief compliance officer role.
Also promoted: Jennifer Dorfman, at Newbridge Financial Services in Florida, from compliance officer to chief compliance officer. Dorfman has been with the firm since 2019.
OK, enough with the financial firms this week! On to other sectors…
Gama Aviation, an aviation services business based in London, has hired Luciane Mallman as group compliance officer. Mallman comes to the firm from the advisory firm Control Risks, where she had been a senior consultant since 2018.
Industrial giant General Electric has hired Denis Jacob as chief audit executive for compliance and investigations. Jacob joins GE from Orthofix, where he had been deputy chief compliance officer since 2019.
Lisa Adinolfi has joined Bed, Bath & Beyond as chief audit executive. Adinolfi comes to the purveyor of things that seem to end up in my house all the time from PwC, where she had been a partner in the internal audit practice since 2013.
The Federal Reserve Bank of Boston has hired John DiThomas (“JD” to his friends) as a compliance program manager. DiThomas previously worked at Envel, a Boston-based fintech dabbling in artificial intelligence, as chief compliance officer.
Talk about your career going up: the Universities Space Research Association, a nonprofit corporation chartered to advance space-related science, has named Rochelle Ford as vice president for corporate affairs and governance. Prior to joining URSA (oh, I get it: the constellation!) Ford had been director of government ethics at the Board of Ethics and Government Accountability in Washington, D.C.
In Dallas, Courtney Sander has joined Flowserve Corp. as global compliance project manager. Sancer comes to Flowserve from Broadcat, the compliance training and advisory firm, where she had been director of operations.
Medical device maker AbbVie has promoted Stacy Hornaday from director of compliance to senior director of medical process excellence. (“What do I do here? I make your process excellent.”) Hornaday has been with AbbVie for about 18 months.
In legalized weed, Canadian reefer business Cronos has named Thomas Cohn head of regulatory affairs “and product,” whatever that might mean. Cohn joins Cronos after a year as general counsel at Avon Co.
Sulaiman Qazi has joined Seattle-area biotech firm Seagen as chief compliance officer. Qazi comes to Seagen after seven years at AbbVie, most recently as vice president of enterprise and business compliance.
Kim Marotta, global senior director of sustainability and enterprise risk management at Molson Coors, is apparently leaving the beermaker to join Beam Suntory as head of Beam’s sustainability program.
Salvador Dahan has departed Nissan Motor Co., where he had been general manager of the global risk and compliance office; and landed at Petrobras in Brazil, where he is now executive director and chief governance and compliance officer.
And word on the street is that TAMKO has hired its new chief ethics and compliance officer. We don’t know who that person is yet, but the company’s recruitment office has been telling other candidates the job is now filled.

Luiz Kokubo is celebrating one year at Vontobel Asset Management, where he is global head of compliance.
Kitty Holt is celebrating 10 years as director of ethics & compliance at Plan International USA (although Holt has been at Plan for nearly 28 years in total.)
Michael Pass is celebrating 10 years at Freeport McMoRan, where he is deputy chief compliance officer.
Vendors & Service Providers
Fred Springer has joined investigations firm K2 as a senior managing director in its financial crimes risk management practice. Spring was previously chief compliance officer at Santander Holding Co. USA.

Sumitomo Mitsui Bank is looking for a deputy chief ethics officer. Job is based in New York.
Everest Reinsurance Co. is looking for a chief audit executive. Job is based in New Jersey.
