Compliance Jobs Report: Aug. 20

Lots of big stuff in the Compliance Jobs Report this week. Walmart has a new compliance boss; Biance snagged a top AML compliance officer; and other news at Sanofi, Reckitt, ABB, and elsewhere. Job leads in biotech, dermatology, and pets; and we have yet more proof that compliance and ESG roles can go hand-in-hand.

As always, thank you to all the compliance people sending me tips and links to keep this report going. We need your help to make the Report work, so send me some news! If you have a tip to pass along, email me at [email protected] or find me on LinkedIn.

Compliance Jobs News

First, as we noted earlier this week, Walmart has hired corporate lawyer and ex-Justice Department official Matt Miner as global chief ethics and compliance officer. Miner comes to Walmart from law firm Morgan Lewis, where he had been partner and head of the firm’s white-collar defense practice for the last 18 months. Prior to that he was deputy assistant attorney general for the Criminal Division at the Justice Department.

We also noticed that Binance, the cryptocurrency exchange up to its eyeballs in regulatory scrutiny, has hired Greg Monahan as global money laundering reporting officer. Monahan joins Binance after four years as a senior investigator at the IRS, most of that time as a supervisory special agent in IRS Cyber Crimes Unit. Monahan is only the latest in a series of compliance hires Binance has been making recently. Considering the firm’s challenges, he won’t be the last.

Susan Pietras has joined Sanofi as global head of communication, policies, and training. She was previously at Daiichi Sankyo for 16 months as director of global medical affairs governance.

San Antonio-based Frost Bank has promoted Andy Buitron from compliance officer to chief compliance officer. Buitron has been with the bank for three years.

Vuslat Eksi has joined Local Initiatives Support Corp., a nonprofit that works on affordable housing and other economic development issues, as vice president of compliance. Eksi previously worked at China Telecom Americas since last year as a corporate compliance officer; prior to that she was ethics and compliance officer for SourceAmerica

Now for some international updates…

In India, Inchcape Shipping Services has hired Amit Sonawane as a manager in its ethics, compliance, and anti-corruption investigations team. Sonawane comes to Inchcape after five years at IT outsourcing giant Cognizant, where he most recently had been senior legal counsel in its global ethics and compliance function.

And another one from India: Fullerton India Credit Co., one of the largest non-bank financial firms in that country, has hired Srinivasan Balachander as chief compliance officer. Balachander joins Fullerton after 12 years at Axis Bank, where he had been chief compliance officer since 2017.

In Oman, Oman Arab Bank has hired Hamza Moosa Baqer as chief audit executive. Baqer previously worked at Nama Group, a large electric utility in Oman, as chief internal auditor.

In London, Tapan Debnath has left his job at Nokia, where he had been senior legal counsel since 2016. He is joining ABB (software and technology for energy infrastructure) as head of integrity, regulatory affairs, and data privacy. Still based in London.

Back in the United States, Margarita Malhotra has joined Reckitt, maker of consumer hygiene products, as ethics and compliance director for North America. Malhotra had been global ethics and compliance director at Morgan Advanced Materials for the last seven months, and prior to that had stints at Lupin Pharmaceuticals and Greenlee Textron

Pacific Oak, a real-estate investment fund in Los Angeles with about $3.4 billion in assets under management, has hired Matthew Mai as chief compliance officer. Mai comes to Pacific Oak after a few months as a field compliance officer for Allstate Financial Services, and prior to that was regional manager for branch supervision at Transamerica Financial Advisors

And we close with two hires related to ESG roles.

First, Cintas Corp., maker of uniforms and other business supplies, has promoted Christy Nageleisen from deputy general counsel for litigation to chief compliance officer and vice president of ESG issues. Nageleisen has been with Cintas since 2012. In this new role, the company says, Nageleisen will oversee Cintas’ integrated ESG efforts, including the development of a new enterprise-wide strategy and ESG-monitoring, reporting and compliance.

Second, Palladium Equity Partners, a minority-owned private equity firm with nearly $3 billion in assets under management, has moved general counsel Genie-Cesar Fabian into the new role of head of ESG and sustainability. The firm also promoted Dominick Barbieri from associate general counsel and deputy chief compliance officer to general counsel and CCO.

I’m telling you, folks — compliance and ESG are very compatible career paths.
