Compliance Jobs Report: Sept. 3
Yikes, another gigantic Compliance Jobs Report! New chief audit executives at CVS, Terminix, and elsewhere; compliance hires at Sylvamo, Jazz Pharmaceuticals, and Rice University, among many more; an intriguing new vendor for the Securities and Exchange Commission; and job leads in medical devices, education, and lingerie. Lots more gossip, too.
As always, thank you to all the compliance people sending me tips and links to keep this report going. We need your help to make the Report work, so send me some news! If you have a tip to pass along, email me at mkelly@radicalcompliance.com or find me on LinkedIn.
Compliance Jobs News
We begin this week with the internal audit world, where a trio of notable businesses just made high-level hires. First, Terminix, the termite and pest control people, has hired Craig James as chief audit executive. James joins the company from retailer JCPenney, where he had been chief audit executive for the last three years. We’re curious how the new job will go but we won’t bug him about it.
Next, David Chavez has joined CVS Health as chief audit executive, based in San Antonio. Chavez comes to CVS from Marathon Petroleum Corp., where he had been CFO of the firm’s Latin America operations for three years.
And in Georgia, Meredith Forrester has joined Synovus Financial as chief audit executive. Forrester comes to Synovus from the awfully named Truist Financial, where she had been a strategy and operations leader for legal, HR, and inclusion. Although prior to Truist, Forrester spent many years at its predecessor firm, SunTrust Banks, where she held many internal audit roles and ended up as deputy general auditor in 2019 (then came the merger with Truist).
In Houston, Rice University has hired Chetna Koshy to be its new chief compliance officer. Koshy comes to Rice after seven years with New York University Abu Dhabi in several compliance roles, most recently as chief compliance officer of the NYU Abu Dhabi campus since December 2020. She succeeds Ken Liddle, who left Rice last year to head up ethics and compliance at Northeastern University.
Ashley Davidson has left International Paper Co., where she held various legal and compliance roles over the last 14 years, to join Sylvamo — International Paper’s overseas business, recently spun off as its own public company. Davidson will be global compliance program manager at Sylvamo (“I love trees” in Latin), the title she also held at International paper.
Darrin McLaughlin has joined fintech firm Revolut (which bills itself as a “financial superapp”) as global head of financial crimes risk management. McLauhglin comes to Revolut after four years at Capital One as a senior director in the bank’s fraud and financial intelligence unit. He’s based in New York.
Angelique Rowley has been named chief compliance and ethics officer at Jazz Pharmaceuticals. Rowley had been head of compliance for GW Pharmaceuticals since 2015. Jazz acquired GW earlier this summer, and now Rowley runs ethics and compliance for the whole enterprise.
Over in Singapore, Marriott International has named Tania Pavaskar senior director of legal compliance. Pavaskar comes to Marriott after one year as head of compliance in Asia-Pacific for the Menarini Group (an Italian pharmaceutical company), and prior to that was deputy global compliance counsel for LexisNexis.
Trafikverket, which sounds like it should be the opening act for a Kraftwerk concert but actually is the Swedish Transportation Agency, has promoted Peter Funck, from head of risk and control to head of governance, risk, and compliance. Funck has been with the agency since 2010.
Also promoted: Lucia Bujar, at Allianz Technology, from head of regulatory compliance to compliance and data privacy officer. She is based in Zurich.
John Denning has a new role at Bank of America. He has moved from senior vice president for cyber crime protection and advisory services, to global risk management executive. Denning has been with BofA in various roles for nearly 11 years.
Nicholas Bourque has joined Blue River, a firm that provides back-office services to the hedge fund industry, as senior compliance associate. Bourque comes to Blue River from Millennium, a hedge fund with $52 billion under management, where he had been a compliance analyst. Like any decent hedge fund worker, he’s based in Connecticut.
Teresa Tang has joined IQVIA in Switzerland as the research services firm’s senior director of compliance for Europe and the Americas. Tang was previously head of international healthcare compliance for skin care giant Galderma (and its previous incarnation as a subsidiary of Nestle) since 2016.
KLA, the technology manufacturing business previously known as KLA Tencor, has hired Timothy Westrick as senior counsel for ethics and compliance. Westrick comes to KLA from Capital One, where he had been director of investigations in the financial intelligence unit.
Fresenius Medical Care has hired Anne-Christine Wegener as a local country compliance officer for Germany. Wegener previously worked in several ethics and anti-corruption roles at Commerzbank AG for several years.
The stylishly named Technisys, a cloud-based banking platform headquartered in Miami, has hired Kathleen Yeh as head of North America product compliance. Yeh joins Technisys after 10 months as head of compliance at Poppy Bank in California. Prior to that she was chief compliance officer at Tri Counties Bank, also in California.
Pharmacy services provider Medvantx has named Darlene Mitchell chief compliance officer. Prior to Medvantx, Mitchell led the compliance function at Advantia Health and was the lead compliance officer for the Planned Parenthood Federation of America, where she established its first nationwide compliance program.
Bittrex Global, a cryptocurrency exchange, is reshuffling its top compliance ranks. Chief compliance officer Siegfried Herzog is stepping down from that role after 15 months on the job, to join compliance consulting firm CLL Compliance as managing partner. Herzog will also remain with Bittrex as a member of the board. Succeeding him as global chief risk and compliance officer will be Michael Schröder, who comes to Bittrex after 10 months as chief risk and financial officer at TransFair AG, a financial services firm based in Liechtenstein.
One more from the crypto world: Ivars Zukovskis has joined BitPay as director of compliance, based in Luxembourg. Zukovskis was previously at the BitFlyer Group, also in Luxembourg. Is it a rule that all crypto firms have “bit” in their name?
And Latoyna Izzard has joined the Corvallis Clinic in Corvallis, Oreg., as chief compliance officer. Izzard comes to the clinic after a few months as chief compliance officer at CareFirst Urgent Care in Cincinnati. The Corvallis Clinic also noted that while Izzard “has a solid legal background, she found that she loved how compliance is not as traditional as the practice of law and allows for more hands-on work.” Amen!
Milestones
Anne Sullivan Daly is celebrating five years as chief compliance and integrity officer at the Ann & Robert Lurie Children’s Hospital of Chicago.
Vendors & Service Providers
Vistrada, a GRC consulting firm, has hired Brad Jackson as a director. Jackson was previously senior director of operational risk and head of GRC at Freddie Mac.
And here’s quite the customer win: AnChain.ai, a cybersecurity analytics firm that works with blockchain technologies, has won a multi-year contract with the U.S. Securities and Exchange Commission “to provide a platform for deep analysis and tracing on smart contracts, to support the SECs ongoing efforts to monitor risk, improve compliance and inform commission policy on digital assets and cryptocurrencies.” Translation: the SEC is upping its capability to monitor and investigate cryptocurrency trading. Hmmm.
