The Compliance Jobs Report this week has new hires at Credit Suisse, Marsh McLennan, Cox Communications, Bank of America, and a trendy fintech firm named Dapp, among others. We also have promotions at Walmart, CEVA Logistics, and elsewhere; plus job openings in entertainment, education, and pharmaceuticals. Our Meme of the Week goes out, sadly, to the Twin Towers.
As always, thank you to all the compliance people sending me tips and links to keep this report going. We need your help to make the Report work, so send me some news! If you have a tip to pass along, email me at [email protected] or find me on LinkedIn.
Compliance Jobs News
We begin this week (as we so often do lately) with yet another update from Credit Suisse. The beleaguered bank has named its head of internal audit, Rafael Lopez Lorenzo, as its next permanent chief compliance officer. Lorenzo succeeds Lara Warner, who had been Credit Suisse’s chief risk and compliance officer until April, when she departed amid several big risk management gaffes the bank made. Credit Suisse then split risk and compliance into separate roles, and hired David Wildermuth in July as chief risk officer. Thomas Grotzer, one of Credit Suisse’s top legal officers, had been interim CCO since Warner left. No word yet on who might succeed Lorenzo as head of internal audit.
Also, just in from Bank of America: the company is promoting Lauren Mogensen, from head of global compliance and operational risk to global general counsel, starting in 2022. Mogensen has been with the bank in various legal and compliance roles for 20 years, and will now be the top legal dog. Bank of America will also promote Amy Littman to succeed Mogensen as global head of compliance and operational risk; Littman previously had been a deputy general counsel for HR and administrative matters.
Marsh McLennan, the insurance and professional services giant, has promoted Denise Sanchez to chief compliance officer. Sanchez has been with Marsh since 2017, and previously served as chief compliance officer for the firm’s Marsh USA operations. She succeeds Katherine Brennan, who has been promoted to general counsel of Marsh.
French technology Thales has hired Lucia van Kan-Janson as customs compliance manager. She comes to Thales after three years at advisory firm RSM International, where she had been a senior consultant on trade and customs issues.
In Brazil, CEVA Logistics has promoted Claudia Cardoso to be regional ethics and compliance director for the Americas. Cardoso has been with CEVA in various roles for nearly 11 years, most recently as head of legal for Latin America.
William MacDonald has joined Vantage Risk Companies, a reinsurance business registered in Bermuda, as head of internal audit. MacDonald comes to Vantage from AXA XL, another Berumda reinsurance firm, where he had been chief audit executive since 2018.
iLand Cloud, a provider of IT services (delivered over the cloud, naturally) has promoted Milou Lammers from compliance manager to director of compliance. She’s been with the firm for two years.
Ashley Pinto has joined Guidewire Software as vice president of enterprise risk management and internal audit. Pinto comes to Guidewire after two years as vice president of internal audit at RealPage, although some of you might remember Pinto from her 11 years at Rent-a-Center in various audit and compliance roles.
In Atlanta, Cox Communications has hired Amber Hall as chief compliance and privacy officer. Hall was previously at Wells Fargo, where she had been head of the ethics office for the last two years.
Dapp, a stylishly named financial services firm in Mexico, has hired Sergio Ramírez Rivera as head of compliance. Rivera joins Dapp from Invex, a somewhat less stylishly named financial services firm in Mexico, where he had been compliance officer since 2017.
And another from Mexico: Karla Valdés Posada has joined Sumitomo Mitsui Banking Corp. as head of compliance and anti-money laundering in its Mexico operations. Posada previously worked at Miranda Partners, a compliance consulting firm in Mexico, since January.
Fresenius Medical Care, the kidney treatment giant, has promoted Enrique Grande Jarque, from country compliance officer for Spain to head of compliance for Western Europe and Israel.
Mo Elwany has joined Lam Research in San Francisco as head of internal audit. Elwany comes to Lam after nine years at Applied Materials, the last three of them as senior director of global internal audit.
Thai Trower has two new roles at Walmart. First, she has been promoted from director of OFAC compliance and global screening to senior director of global sanctions and financial services compliance. Second, she has also been named chair of the company’s Black/African American Resource Group. She has been with Walmart in various anti-money laundering and compliance roles for 11 years.
And MobileCoin, a cryptocurrency tech startup in New York, has hired David Ackerman as chief compliance officer. Ackerman joins MobileCoin from NICE Actimize, where he had been global head of regulatory strategy for four years.
Dilar Marques just celebrated five years as head of customer due diligence and anti-money laundering at Homes England, a British government agency that works in real estate development.
