Lots of interesting items in the Compliance Jobs Report this week! News from CoinFlip in crypto, Chewy in pet foods, Akili in video game biotech (seriously), and many more! We also have a few promotions to note, job leads in financial services and manufacturing, some news from tech vendors, and Meme of the Week goes out to books and records.
As always, thank you to all the compliance people sending me tips and links to keep this report going. We need your help to make the Report work, so send me some news! If you have a tip to pass along, email me at [email protected] or find me on LinkedIn.
Compliance Jobs News
We begin this week in the cryptocurrency world. CoinFlip, one of those financial services platforms promising to change the world, has hired Colleen Kavanagh as chief compliance officer. Kavanagh comes to CoinFlip from Morgan Stanley, where she was head of investigations and the financial intelligence unit for six years. At CoinFlip she’ll be running the firm’s regulatory and AML compliance programs.
Chewy.com, the online pet food business, has hired Tanja Gromadzki as corporate compliance manager. Gromadzki joins the Boston-based firm (although she’ll be working in St. Petersburg, Fla., which is less cool than Boston in every sense of the word) after four years at TechData in various compliance roles. At Chewy, Gromadzki says she will be “combining my passion for effective compliance programs and furry friends!”
Jillian Atstupenas has a new job as director of privacy and compliance at Akili Interactive, a biotech startup that promises “world-class neuroscience with exceptional creativity and video game development to challenge the status quo of medicine.” I’m not sure what that means, although there’s no shortage of status quo in medicine so I wish them well. Anyway, Atstupenas joins Akili from Takeda, where she had been a senior manager for ethics and compliance for 18 months.
In Brazil, Luiz Claudio Rossi has joined tech services firm ISH Tecnologia as head of integrated risk management and GRC. Rossi had been a consultant at LCR Consulting in Brazil for the prior four years.
Stanford University has promoted Nancy Heafey, from senior counsel to chief compliance officer for Stanford’s Graduate School of Business. Heafey has been with the university in various roles for 10 years. Here’s hoping she gets a side job teaching a course on compliance while she’s there!
Also promoted: Clemencia Bright, at Mastercard, from legal compliance director to vice president of legal compliance. Bright is based in London and has been with Mastercard since 2018.
Another promotion: Kristin Roberts, at Auburn University, from compliance manager to assistant director of institutional compliance and privacy. Roberts has been with Auburn for seven years. Go Tigers!
And one more promotion: Fabrizio Camerini, at Yara International in Norway, from director of ethics and compliance to vice president of ethics and compliance. Camerini has been with Yara, an agribusiness giant, since 2008.
CEVA Logistics has hired Martina Leposa as global director of regulatory compliance, working from offices in Hungary. Leposa previously worked at Janssen Pharmaceuticals for five years, most recently as healthcare compliance officer for Central Europe and the Baltics.
Calling in from Carlsbad, Calif., Nicole Davis has joined telecom firm Viasat as a legal compliance analyst. Davis joins Viasat from Trustee Corp., a real estate firm that handles foreclosures, where she had been compliance manager.
And GAMSTOP, a British organization that offers tools to help gambling addicts block their access to online gambling sites (great idea, by the way), has named Simon Reynolds to its board of directors. Reynolds is the chief compliance officer at Buzz Bingo, an online gambling business. More compliance officers on boards!
Madina Kassymova is celebrating one year as head of compliance for the delightfully named Kazzinc, a zinc mining business in Kazakhstan.
Allen Heeke is celebrating one year as a compliance specialist at Vellum Mortgage in Florida.
Vendors and Service Providers
Customer win! Blockchain analysis firm Chainanalysis has signed Dapper Labs, maker of blockchain-based games such as CryptoKitties and NBA Top Shot, to use Chainanalysis software to strengthen Dapper’s compliance processes.
Cytro, a data privacy compliance startup in Boston, just raised $3.5 million in funding to develop software for mid-sized companies’ data privacy challenges.
Open Req Orders
Professional services firm Marsh McLennan is looking for a chief compliance officer for its U.S. financial services division, Marsh US. Job is based in New York.
Manufacturing giant JABIL is looking for a regional compliance officer for the Americas. Job is based in St. Petersburg, Fla.
And we don’t have a specific job listing yet, but watch this item: FINA, the international governing body for swimming, is planning to build out an integrity function to address (like so many other athletics organizations these days) allegations of poor governance and conflicts of interest. That function will include some sort of chief integrity officer.
