Compliance Jobs Report: Oct. 22

The Compliance Jobs Report this week has personnel moves at AAR Corp., CareMax, Oxford University Press (a departure there), and several compliance hires at CEVA Logistics, to name only a few. We have some work anniversaries to note, job leads in higher education, healthcare, and security guards; and our Meme of the Week goes out to would-be whistleblowers.

As always, thank you to all the compliance people sending me tips and links to keep this report going. We need your help to make the Report work, so send me some news! If you have a tip to pass along, email me at [email protected] or find me on LinkedIn.

Compliance Jobs News

This week we begin with AAR Corp., an aviation services firm based in Illinois. AAR has hired Lori Knudson as chief ethics and compliance officer. Knudson arrives at AAR after more than 11 years at Aegion Corp., where most recently she had been senior vice president of compliance, risk, and internal audit. At AAR Knudson will report into general counsel Jessica Garascia; Radical Compliance frowns on reporting into legal on principle but we wish everyone well.

MCRA Corp., a medical device and clinical research advisory firm in Washington, D.C., has hired Melissa Paper as vice president of healthcare compliance. Paper comes to MCRA from Tenet Healthcare, where she had been senior director of compliance for the Southeast, working from Florida.

Valerie Simons has been named interim chief compliance officer and Title IX coordinator at the University of Colorado System. Simons was moved into the role after serving as associate vice chancellor and Title IX coordinator at CU Boulder for the last seven years. Llen Pomeroy, assistant vice chancellor and deputy Title IX coordinator, will succeed Simons as Title IX coordinator at CU Boulder on an interim basis.

Compliance JobsSean Willman has joined Sumitomo Mitsui Bank as director of anti-fraud operations. Willman comes to Sumitomo after an 18-year stretch at the Department of Homeland Security; he spent most of that time running organized crime or drug cartel investigations around the New York area.

Promoted: Claudia Laclette, at pharmaceutical company AbbVie; from director of ethics and compliance for Latin America to global director at the Office of Ethics & Compliance. Laclette has held several compliance roles at AbbVie for six years.

Also promoted: Curtis Roy, at the U.S. Department of Health & Human Services; from assistant regional inspector general to regional inspector general for audit services. Roy has been in the inspector general ranks at HHS for 32 years, and is based in Boston.

CareMax, a Medicare healthcare system in Florida (quelle surprise), has hired Teresa McMeans as chief compliance officer. McMeans comes to CareMax after a few years at Steward Health Care in Dallas, where she had been vice president of privacy and compliance.

Grant Gaddy has joined Silvergate Bank in San Diego as compliance officer. Gaddy spent the last 18 months working as a compliance officer at two other banks in San Diego, but spent six years in the 2010s working at Silvergate in other compliance roles, so this is a bit of a homecoming for him.

At Hoag Hospital in Orange County, Calif., chief compliance officer Kimberlee Rosa has also picked up new duties as the hospital’s head of integrity and inclusion, too. Rosa has been with Hoag in various privacy and compliance roles since 2012.

In Paris, Derya Dilara Surmen has joined Lactalis Group, a global dairy concern based in France, as legal counsel for compliance and competition. Surmen comes to Lactalis from Sodexo, where she had been an ethics and compliance consultant for the last 18 months.

In London, Mary Eastwood Jones has left her job as head of Oxford University Press, to take over as executive director of the Association of Corporate Investigators. Jones had been at Oxford Press for almost five years.

And the folks at CEVA Logistics have been on a hiring tear lately. We noted last week that Martina Leposa is the new global director of regulatory compliance. CEVA has also made the following new hires lately:

  • Milos Stopic, global director of the business ethics and compliance program;
  • Maarten Dewispelaere, global director of trade compliance and customer excellence;
  • Plus various others we’ve already mentioned in recent weeks and months.

Charles Paré, CEVA’s chief compliance officer since March, is the one spearheading the build-out of the compliance function.
