Compliance Jobs Report: Dec. 17

The Compliance Jobs Report this week has several compliance officers moving into general counsel roles, plus new hires and promotions at Credit Suisse, TechData, and American Advisor Group, and more. We also have a new compliance networking group launching in Italy; jobs in banking, insurance, and digital services; and our Meme of the Week goes out to differing viewpoints.

As always, thank you to all the compliance people sending me tips and links to keep this report going. We need your help to make the Report work, so send me some news! If you have a tip to pass along, email me at [email protected] or find me on LinkedIn.

Compliance Jobs News

This week we begin with healthcare giant Kaiser Permanente, which just promoted chief compliance and privacy officer Vanessa Benavides to chief legal officer. Benavides has been with Kaiser since 2015; prior to that, she was chief compliance officer at Tenet Healthcare. She is succeeding Mark Zemelman, who is retiring after 30 years with Kaiser. No word yet on who might succeed Benavides in the compliance role.

And remember Hazel-Ann Mayers, chief ethics and compliance officer at CBS in 2019 and 2020 after a sexual harassment scandal at the network? Mayers has joined Turnitin, a software firm helping the education sector to root out plagiarism in student work, as general counsel.

compliance jobsAmerican Advisor Group, a provider of reverse mortgages and other “home equity solutions,” has hired Kristina Larese as chief compliance officer. Larese comes to AAG from insurance giant USAA, where she spent two years as head of business risk and controls for real estate servicing.

In Jacksonville, Fla., Lisa Wright has left her job at Baptist Health, where she had been director of physician compliance; to join McKesson as a compliance specialist. Wright had been at Baptist in several compliance and audit roles for 18 years.

In Brazil, Credit Suisse has promoted Gabriela Fernandez Neves from senior compliance analyst to assistant vice president of compliance. Neves is based in Sao Paolo and has been with Credit Suisse for two years.

Also in Brazil, Thiago Ferreira has joined fintech startup Quanto (“we’re breaking apart the banking system to rebuild it as it should be”) as a compliance analyst. Ferreira comes to Quanto from Singulare, a broker-dealer firm in Brazil, where he had been a supervisor of internal control and operational risk.

Health Alliance Plan, a Michigan-based nonprofit health plan, has named Nike Otuyelu chief compliance officer. Otuyelu had been working for the last few years as a compliance consultant affiliated with consulting firm Avota; prior to that, she was corporate compliance and risk management officer for Community Health Choice in Houston.

IT services firm TechData has promoted Clara Becerra Campos from global compliance analyst to senior compliance analyst for Europe. Campos is based in Austria and has been with TechData for two years.

In Louisville, Ky., Robert Foster has joined Family Allergy & Asthma, a chain of medical practices in the region, as compliance manager. Foster previously worked for 14 years at Parallon, a provider of healthcare business services, in various ethics and compliance roles. Foster also pulled a few months as chief operating officer of a local pizza joint earlier this year, which sounds like excellent training for the people skills necessary in this line of work.

And Eqonex Group, a fintech firm in London working in cryptocurrency, has hired Evelien van den Arend as chief compliance officer. Van den Arend comes to Eqonex after several years at the delightfully named Kraken Digital Assets Exchange, where she had been head of compliance and regulatory affairs.
