As always, thank you to all the compliance people sending me tips and links to keep this report going. We need your help to make the Report work, so send me some news! If you have a tip to pass along, email me at [email protected] or find me on LinkedIn.

Compliance Jobs News

This week we begin at Nike, which has promoted chief ethics and compliance officer Ann Miller to general counsel. Miller has been CCO at Nike since 2017, and with the company in various other roles since 2014. (Miller also worked at Nike earlier in her career, with a brief detour to Converse in the early 2010s.) She succeeds current general counsel Hilary Krane, who is retiring.

In higher education, Penn State has hired Tabitha Oman as its chief ethics and compliance officer. Oman comes to the university from Axalta Coating Systems, where she has been chief compliance officer and deputy general counsel since 2014. She succeeds Kenya Mann Faulkner, who left Penn State in early 2021 and joined Emory University as chief compliance officer in November. Oman will start her new job on March 7.

Swedbank has tapped Britta Hjorth-Larsen to be its next chief compliance officer, starting sometime this spring or summer. Hjorth-Larsen will succeed Ingrid Harbo, who is retiring at the end of March. This would be the same Swedbank that suffered through a major money-laundering scandal in 2019, and has been working to improve its compliance operations ever since. Hjorth-Larsen comes to the bank after 18 months at Bank of Ireland, where she has been head of non-financial risk; before that Hjorth-Larsen spent more than a decade with Nordea in various compliance and risk management roles.

Compliance jobsLisa Pepe-Whittaker has joined Deutsche Bank, working from New York City as head of governance, financial crime, and business control compliance. Pepe-Whittaker comes to the bank after a 16-month stint at Carta, an equity management firm, where she had been head of corporate compliance. Prior to that she held compliance roles at UBS

Advertising giant WPP (yes, that WPP, the one that settled FCPA charges just a few months ago) has hired Chantal Beaumont to be ethics and compliance manager for the Middle East and North Africa regions. Beaumont comes to WPP from EDGE, a defense contractor based in Abu Dhabi, where she spent the last two-plus years setting up compliance programs for the group’s subsidiary units.

Analog Devices has hired Katrin Shapovalova as compliance program manager. Shapovalova joins Analog from Cigna, where she had been an audit lead analyst.

Virgin Money, a fintech startup within Richard Branson’s empire of Virgin-named businesses, has hired Susan Poot as chief risk officer. Poot previously worked at ING as chief retail risk officer. Just don’t ask me what Virgin Money actually is, other than “the new disruptive force in U.K. banking.”

Another in fintech: Futurebank has hired Iain Duke-Richardet as head of compliance. Duke-Richardet comes to the bank — which says it exists for “anyone who hates their current bank,” so no shortage of customers there — from Hearsay Systems, where he was vice president of compliance strategy.

And one more from fintech: Wyre, a tech startup that provides software to cryptocurrency startups, has announced two senior compliance appointments. Stephen Cheng is chief compliance officer — a move that actually happened last August, but Wyre kept under wraps until now. The company also named Steven Huynh as vice president of compliance. Huynh comes to Wyre after two years at Binance.us, where he most recently had been head of compliance.

Allied Universal, a security and investigations company headquartered in California, has hired Ryan Manning as chief compliance officer. Manning previously worked at law firm Newmeyer & Dillion as a partner since the mid-2000s.

Delasport, a Maltese technology company that provides software to the gambling industry, has hired Filippo Ferri as chief compliance officer. Ferri previously worked at consulting firm Maxima Compliance (awesome name for a compliance consulting firm), where he had been chief commercial officer since last April.

JP Morgan has promoted Nathan Rodgers, from vice president for supplier assurance services to executive director for the same. Rodgers has been with the bank since 2017.

Subhro Dey has a new job as head of technology risk for Tesco Bank, working from the bank’s IT center in India. Dey had previously been at Wells Fargo as assistant vice president of enterprise controls, also working in the back-office operations in India.

Hixon Zuercher Capital Management, a wealth management firm headquartered near Toledo, Ohio, has promoted Josh Robb from senior wealth advisor to chief compliance officer and director of financial planning.

And industrial manufacturing giant Cummins has promoted Mark Sifferlen from vice president of ethics and compliance to chief risk officer. In this newly created role, Sifferlen will also be responsible for Cummin’s ESG strategy. Cummins also announced that Schuyla Jeanniton, currently head of contracts, risk, and compliance for corporate purchasing, has been promoted to executive director of ethics and compliance to assist with some of Sifferlen’s previous duties.

Milestones

Alli Jean is celebrating five years at Lifespan, a hospital system in Rhode Island, where she is senior compliance and privacy specialist.

Vendors & Service Providers

FTI Consulting has hired Troy Kubes as a managing director, working out of the firm’s Atlanta offices. Kubes had previously been deputy compliance officer at Equifax since 2019, and served in various other roles there since 2001.

Open Req Orders

Goldman Sachs is looking for a vice president of compliance and financial crimes, working in its anti-bribery group. Job is based in New York.

Darden Restaurants is looking for a senior associate counsel for ethics and compliance. Job is based in Orlando, Fla.
