Compliance Jobs Report: Feb. 4
Another big week for the Compliance Jobs Report. We have compliance officer hires at TikTok, Ericsson, AXA, CEVA Logistics, Qorvo, and lots more; the chief compliance officer at Snap taking his leave; promotions at SAP, Hormel Foods, and elsewhere; and plenty of other personnel gossip. Meme of the Week goes out to Dwight Schrute.
As always, thank you to all the compliance people sending me tips and links to keep this report going. We need your help to make the Report work, so send me some news! If you have a tip to pass along, email me at mkelly@radicalcompliance.com or find me on LinkedIn.
Compliance Jobs News
This week we begin with several high-profile moves in the tech world. First, Dominic Parella is stepping down as chief compliance officer of Snap, the not-quite giant but still big social media company. Parella has been chief compliance officer and deputy general counsel at Snap since 2015. Why quit now? Parella says that he is “ready for a time out” after 20 years in legal and compliance jobs and is taking a sabbatical for a few months. We’ll try to keep tabs on him and see where he resurfaces in the future. Snap is also conducting a formal search for Parella’s successor.
Second, Catherine Razzano has left her job as chief ethics and compliance officer at Panasonic Avionics Corp., to join TikTok as head of legal and compliance. Razzano had been with Panasonic for more than three years, helping the company with its FCPA settlement in 2018 and a subsequent compliance monitorship. Currently unclear when Razzano will start posting her dance moves on TikTok.
Ericsson has hired Rebecca Rohr as head of corporate and government investigations. Rohr had been head of anti-corruption and global trade compliance at Hewlett Packard Enterprise for the last six years. Prior to HPE, Rohr was also a top dog at the Fraud Section in the U.S. Justice Department.
AXA, the French insurance giant, is promoting Andrew Wallace-Barnett from head of investor relations to chief compliance officer. Wallace-Barnett will move into the role on Sept. 1, succeeding Ian Johnson, who is retiring after 30 years in the business.
Another ethics and compliance hire at CEVA Logistics. This time it’s Andrés Colín, named head of ethics and compliance for CEVA’s operations in Mexico and Central America. Colín comes to the logistics giant after six years at Grupo Modelo, where he most recently had been a compliance manager. (Don’t miss our conversation with CEVA’s global head of compliance from a few months ago, talking about how CEVA is building out a global function.)
Christine Lee has joined Qorvo, a maker of RF semiconductors for wireless devices, as global head of compliance. Lee was previously at DHL for three years as head of global trade law.
Suve Banerjee has a new role at SAP, moving from senior legal counsel on cloud and M&A compliance (sign of the modern times that such a compliance role is necessary) to be field compliance officer for the Nordics, Baltics, and “EMEA North.” What other countries qualify as EMEA North after the Nordics and the Baltics, I’m not sure.
Investment bank CIBC has hired Brendan McSherry as senior director of global internal audit practices. McSherry comes to the bank from Mitsubishi UFJ Financial Group, where he had been director of global audit strategy.
T Mobile has hired Rachel Koontz as senior corporate counsel for cybersecurity compliance. Koontz previously worked at financial data provider Morning Consult in a similar compliance role.
Hormel Foods has promoted Paul Kuehneman from assistant controller to controller, in charge of financial policies, internal control, and financial reporting. Kuehneman has been in various internal control roles at Hormel since 2009, and had been assistant controller since 2020. He succeeds Jana Haynes, who recently left Hormel.
RQD* Clearing, a clearing firm for trading that apparently includes that annoying little asterisk as part of its name, has hired Lisa Bridgeford as chief compliance officer. Bridgeford comes to RQD* from Axos Clearing Corp., where she had also been chief compliance officer.
Alexander Fortich has been promoted to chief compliance officer at U.S. Century Bank, one of the larger community banks in Florida. Fortich has been with U.S. Century in various roles for nine years, most recently as AML and consumer compliance director.
Brookfield Asset Management has moved Carolina Parisi from compliance officer into a new role of “conducting officer for portfolio management oversight.” Parisi has been with Brookfield in compliance roles since 2018.
Indrani Franchini has left Alexion Pharmaceuticals, where she had been chief compliance officer for the last four years; to join Alnylam Pharmaceuticals as chief legal officer. Fun fact: Alnylam’s headquarters is above a vegetarian pub in Cambridge, Mass.
Flipkart, one of the big e-commerce players in India, has hired Bankim Shah as senior director of ethics and compliance. Shah joins Flipkart from GSK, where he had been head of ethics and compliance for the company’s global capability center in India.
Also in India, Pranav Shah has joined White Oak Capital Management as head of compliance and legal, and also as corporate secretary. Shah comes to White Oak from Edelweiss Capital Management, another Indian investment firm, where he had been head of compliance for the last 18 months.
Demyst, a data analytics platform headquartered in Ontario, has promoted Kingsley Audu from legal and operations analyst to senior associate for privacy compliance and legal operations.
And Cassandra Lee, head of internal audit at AT&T and a 30-year veteran at the firm, is joining the board of NiSource, a large public utility operating in the Midwest. Not confirmed yet, but one assumes she will probably serve on the audit committee.
Vendors & Service Providers
Ricardo Martinez Rivera has left Charles Schwab, where he had been senior manager of supervisory risk management for the last few years; to join advisory firm RSM as senior manager in the banking risk advisory practice.
