Compliance Jobs Report: March 18

The Compliance Jobs Report this week starts with several compliance officers also working in ESG roles; new hires at Flipkart, Perspectum, Omnicom, U.S. Urology; and lots of other personnel gossip too. We have job leads in higher ed, consulting, and soda pop; and our Meme of the Week goes out to cybersecurity.

As always, thank you to all the compliance people sending me tips and links to keep this report going. We need your help to make the Report work, so send me some news! If you have a tip to pass along, email me at [email protected] or find me on LinkedIn.

Compliance Jobs News

This week we begin with Huntington Ingalls, naval shipbuilder and defense contractor headquartered in Newport News, Va. The company has expanded the duties of chief compliance officer Paul Harris, who will now also be HII’s chief sustainability officer. Harris joined HII in 2020 after a stint at nearby Hampton University. (I’ve said it before, I’ll say it again: compliance officers are natural candidates to lead ESG duties.)

And another! Vertiv Corp., a maker of packaging and hygiene products, has promoted Susan Salyer from chief compliance and sustainability officer to general counsel. Salyer has been with the Atlanta-based company since 2012 and been chief compliance officer since 2016. Compliance, ESG, and legal roles: they’re all a natural pathway to more responsibility, if that’s your thing. Salyer succeeds Mark Hianik, who is retiring. No word yet on what happens with Vertiv’s chief compliance officer role.

Marsh McLennan has promoted Katherine Brennan to general counsel. Brennan had lately been general counsel of Marsh, the firm’s insurance subsidiary; but she had been deputy general counsel and chief compliance officer of Marsh McLennan until summer 2021 so we’re mentioning her anyway.

Peter Loftspring has retired from engineering firm Black & Veatch, where he had been assistant general counsel and chief compliance manager since 2006. Loftspring now lists his occupation as “semi-retired,” and we wish him well.

SiteRx, a startup that helps to connect doctors and patients with clinical trials for new health treatments, has hired Richard Gomes as a GRC lead. Gomes had been working as a solo GRC consultant for the last five years; prior to that he worked at Citigroup in the 2010s on information governance and corporate culture issues.

In London, Guillem Casòliva Cabana has a new role at Booking.com. He has moved from compliance manager for the EMEA region to compliance manager in charge of training and education at the global level.

Perspectum, a medical image company in Britain, has hired Danielle Van de Putte as chief compliance officer. Van de Putte joins Perspectum after several years as a solo consultant. Earlier in her career she held compliance or legal roles at Astellas Pharma and Shire, among others.

Scott Fleisher has joined Copper.co, a startup that offers infrastructure and custodial services in the cryptocurrency trading world, as an AML compliance officer. Fleisher previously held several risk and compliance roles at Bank of America, most recently as a director of AML compliance in BofA’s global banking and markets division.

The U.S. Air Force has promoted Melissa Steele from auditor to audit manager. Steele has been with the USAF in several audit and contract administration roles since 2017.

Way up in St. Albans, Vt. (you can look out your window and see Canada), Jamie Pinkham has joined NOTCH (the Northern Tier Center for Health) as director of quality, risk, and compliance. Pinkham comes to NOTCH from Northwestern Medical Center, another healthcare facility in St. Albans, where she had been the corporate compliance officer.

Omnicom, the parent company of numerous advertising and marketing firms, has hired Norman Levine as senior manager for cybersecurity risk management. Levine joins Omnicom after three years at Cigna, where he most recently was head of Tier 1 vendor risk management.

Vanderbilt University Medical Center says Bob Mangeot will now be chief compliance officer on a permanent basis. Mangeot had been interim chief compliance officer since December; prior to that he had been with VUMC since 2014 as billing and revenue compliance officer. He succeeds Ted Case, who stepped down as VUMC’s chief compliance officer late last year.

Victoria Komjathy has joined Varo Bank as a lead in compliance training there. Komjathy previously worked at USAA for 18 months, where she had been a senior compliance manager working on training.

U.S. Urology Partners, a Tennessee-based operator of urology clinics around the country, has named Connie Ehlert chief compliance officer. Ehlert joins U.S. Urology Partners from Three Oaks Hospice, a private equity-backed company with multi-state operations, where she led compliance, quality, and clinical operations.

And Narottam Kumar has joined Flipkart, one of the largest e-commerce players in India, as director of anti-corruption compliance. Kumar comes to Flipkart after seven years at KPMG in India, most recently as a technical director in the firm’s risk advisory practice.

Milestones

Charles Paré is celebrating one year at CEVA Logistics as chief compliance officer.

William Langford is celebrating five years as chief compliance officer for the Americas at MUFG, subsidiary of Mitsubishi UFJ Financial Group.

And sad news out of Dallas: David Miller, director of internal audit at CEC Entertainment, died suddenly earlier this week. Miller had been with CEC (corporate parent of the Chuck E. Cheese chain and other restaurant businesses) since 2016. Condolences to his loved ones.

Vendors & Service Providers

Leslie Boles has left her job as senior director of compliance and audit at WCP Healthcare to strike out on her own. She is founding partner of Revu Healthcare, a healthcare compliance consulting firm based in New Jersey.

IT consulting firm Booz Allen Hamilton is looking for an ethics and compliance counsel. Job is remote, although the firm itself is based in Washington, D.C.
