Compliance Jobs Report: April 15

Another week, another huge Compliance Jobs Report! We have compliance officers coming or going at Moody’s, Covington & Burling, Cargill, Citigroup, the Federal Reserve Bank of New York, and many, many more. Promotions at Honeywell and RSA Group; a few work anniversaries to note; and job leads in tires, advisory services, and particle physics. Plus our Meme of the Week!

As always, thank you to all the compliance people sending me tips and links to keep this report going. We need your help to make the Report work, so send me some news! If you have a tip to pass along, email me at [email protected] or find me on LinkedIn.

Compliance Jobs News

This week we begin in the law firm world: Covington & Burling has hired Kim Urbanchuk as chief compliance officer. Urbanchuk joins Covington from Parsons Corp., where she had been deputy general counsel and head of ethics and compliance since 2018. CCOs at law firms are fairly common in Britain, but you don’t see it too often in the United States; here’s hoping more firms follow suit.

Andrew Weinberg has joined Moody’s Corp. as chief compliance officer. Weinberg comes to the data analytics giant after six years at Bank of America, where he most recently had been global head of equities compliance and operational risk.

Effie Silva has left her job as global ethics and compliance director at Cargill to join Fresh Del Monte as general counsel. Silva had been head of ethics and compliance at Cargill since 2020; prior to that she was a senior legal officer at Tyson Foods. Silva succeeds Marlene Gordon, who left Del Monte for another opportunity still unannounced.

Chinwe Esimai has a new role at Citigroup. Esimai had been Citi’s chief anti-bribery and corruption officer since 2016; this week she shifted to be chief compliance officer for the bank’s newly formed legacy franchises operating segment. In that role Esimai will oversee regulatory compliance for Citi’s divestiture strategy around the globe.

Martin Grant has left his job as chief ethics and compliance officer at the Federal Reserve Bank of New York — a role he held for nearly 17 years! — to join JST Capital as global head of regulatory affairs and integrity. JST is a startup financial services firm working in cryptocurrencies, the blockchain, and other digital assets.

Andrea Easter is the new chief compliance officer at Open Mortgage, a mortgage lender based in Austin, Texas. Easter is the firm’s first-ever chief compliance officer; she comes to Open Mortgage from Celebrity Home Loans, where she had been deputy chief compliance officer since last year.

Florida Cancer Care Specialists in Fort Myers, Fla., has hired Tonja Wise as vice president of compliance. Wise had previously served as director of compliance, regulatory and reimbursement for Sharp HealthCare in San Diego.

Piya Haldar has been promoted at Honeywell’s India operations, from director of integrity and compliance to chief compliance officer. Haldar has been with Honeywell India since 2015.

Several promotions to note in the audit function at RSA Group (the British insurance giant, not the U.S. cybersecurity firm). David Howell has been promoted from chief auditor to chief risk officer; and Yasemin Dogu, currently chief auditor for U.K. and Europe, will succeed him as chief auditor.

Paul Conlin, assistant controller since 2020 at online sports network Fanatics, has left that job to join Hewlett Packard Enterprise as senior director of cyber and IT audit. Still doing his thing from Jacksonville, Fla.

Nick Jackson has joined Lightsource BP, an affiliate of British energy giant BP that makes solar energy components, as chief compliance officer. Jackson had previously been chief ethics officer at the Global Fund to Fight AIDS, Tuberculosis and Malaria, a nonprofit based in Switzerland, since 2016.

Also in Britain, Daniel Ibrahim has been hired by Optimus Cards as chief compliance officer. Ibrahim comes to Optimus from Ixaris, an exotically named fintech startup, where he had been chief risk and compliance officer for a year.

SouthState Bank, a regional bank headquartered in Florida, has hired Eric Huber as senior director of fraud strategy and development. Huber had previously worked at JP Morgan Chase as vice president and fraud strategy manager.

Remember Maria Hermida, last seen leaving USAA six months ago after three years as chief compliance officer for anti-bribery and conduct risk? She just turned up at Accion, a nonprofit in the financial services world (helping to bring microfinance services to emerging markets) as general counsel.

Crypto.com, a cryptocurrency platform based in Singapore, has hired Duncan DeVille as executive vice president of compliance for the Americas and global head of financial crimes compliance. DeVille comes to Crypto.com from Western Union, where he had been global head of financial crimes compliance since 2013.

Staying in the cryptocurrency world: Binance, another (rather notorious) global cryptocurrency platform, has hired Yousif Abdulrahim to be an anti-money laundering officer for the firm’s Middle East operations. He is based in Bahrain. Abdulrahim previously worked at Dallah Albaraka, a regional utilities business, as head of board services.

Security Health Plan of Wisconsin has promoted Kelly Wilson from compliance specialist to director of compliance and privacy. Wilson has been with the healthcare provider in various roles for seven years.

Scot Steinheiser has joined Idorsia Pharmaceuticals as senior compliance manager. He comes to Idorsia from Arena Pharmaceuticals (recently acquired by Pfizer), where he had been corporate compliance director.

And in Toronto, Hassan Chaudry says he has left Lafarge Canada, where he had been senior compliance manager since 2019, to join Starlight Investments as director of compliance. (We now give Chaudry a subtle nudge to update his LinkedIn profile, but we know this news is true.)
