Compliance Jobs Report: April 22
This week’s Compliance Jobs Report has news from Binance, Florida State University, JPMorgan, DaVita Kidney Care, and many more. We have several work anniversaries to note; job leads in higher education, banking, and television; and our Meme of the Week goes out to global expansion plans.
As always, thank you to all the compliance people sending me tips and links to keep this report going. We need your help to make the Report work, so send me some news! If you have a tip to pass along, email me at [email protected] or find me on LinkedIn.
Compliance Jobs News
We begin this week at Binance, the cryptocurrency trading platform under regulatory scrutiny from pretty much everywhere: the company has promoted Chagri Poyraz to be its global head of sanctions compliance. Poyraz, working from Toronto, joined Binance in January and had been working as director of sanctions compliance until the promotion announced this week. He previously headed up AML compliance at Coupang, the South Korean e-commerce giant. (Where, coincidentally, he overlapped with former Walmart compliance chief Jay Jorgensen, who was Coupang’s general counsel until last year.)
Next is news from the Cook Group, a privately held medical device maker headquartered in Indiana; the company just promoted Drew Northern to be chief ethics and compliance officer. Northern has been with Cook since 2017, and previously had been director of anti-corruption compliance.
Sunitha Venkatesan has joined Victoria’s Secret as assistant vice president for ethics and compliance (the latest in a string of compliance hires the newly public Victoria’s Secret has been making). Venkatesan previously worked at State Auto Insurance Cos. in Ohio for nine years as director of corporate compliance and ethics.
Mainaki Joseph has joined JPMorgan Chase as executive director on the bank’s internal audit team. Joseph previously worked at Discover Financial Services for eight years in various roles, most recently as director of internal audit.
Florida State University has hired Undra Baldwin as its new chief audit executive; he starts May 9. Baldwin comes to FSU from Kennesaw State University, where he had been chief institutional auditor since 2020. He succeeds Sam McCall, who is retiring this spring after eight years at the helm of FSU’s Office of Inspector General Services.
Florida Cancer Specialists and Research Institute has promoted Tyler Hendricksen, from privacy and health information officer to associate director of compliance and privacy. Hendricksen has been with the institute since 2019.
Bancorp Bank, which isn’t actually a bank but provides prepaid cards and other financial technologies to non-bank companies, has hired Randall Baugh as chief compliance officer. Baugh comes to Bancorp from Morgan Stanley, where he had been head of compliance for its e-Trade division since 2021.
Joseph Gunnar & Co. a boutique broker-dealer, investment adviser, and investment bank in New York, has hired James Mazzei as chief compliance officer. Mazzei joins Gunnar after 10 years at JPMorgan Chase, most recently as vice president and compliance manager.
In New York, health insurance business Healthfirst has hired Britney Fremont as manager of procurement and vendor contracting. Fremont joins Healthfirst after a year as a business analyst and vendor manager at Church Pension Group, and prior to that was a senior compliance associate at BenefitWallet.
Joe Cox just turned up at Fincantieri Marine Group, a defense contractor based in Washington, as head of audit and compliance. Cox had previously been head of internal audit at the Institute of International Education, until he left that job at the start of this year.
Sindhu Kavinamannil has joined Inchcape Shipping Services as an ethics and compliance manager, working for the London-based business from India. Kavinamannil comes to Inchcape from Ingram Micro, where she had been head of compliance for the India operations since 2017.
Allison Carlson has joined DaVita Kidney Care as a director of compliance, working from Arizona. Carlson comes to DaVita after an 18-month stint as director of compliance at Ambulnz, an oddly named startup in the ambulance sector. (Does no startup use vowlz any more?)
Adam Rattner has joined Olive, an automation technology vendor in the healthcare sector, as senior corporate counsel. Rattner rolls into Olive after two years as director of legal and compliance at Wellth, a fintech startup that proves my point about the vowlz thing.
The Bermuda Stock Exchange has named Ailish Byrne as its next chief compliance officer. Byrne had been a solo compliance consultant since 2019, although earlier in her career she worked at the Irish Stock Exchange (eventually acquired by Euronext) as head of regulation and head of public affairs.
In Abu Dhabi, financial services firm Yoshi Markets has promoted Arvishek Seetohul from head of market surveillance to head of surveillance and compliance.
