Compliance Jobs Report: June 17
This week’s Compliance Jobs Report includes updates on the SEC itself; new hires at Activision Blizzard, Stony Brook Medicine, Palo Alto Networks, and more; and a bundle of compliance personnel updates in Europe as well. We have job leads in banking, medicine, and e-commerce, and Meme of the Week goes out to CEOs!
As always, thank you to all the compliance people sending me tips and links to keep this report going. We need your help to make the Report work, so send me some news! If you have a tip to pass along, email me at [email protected] or find me on LinkedIn.
Compliance Jobs News
This week we begin with the Securities and Exchange Commission, which is back to full strength! The U.S. Senate this week confirmed Jaime Lizárraga and Mark Uyeda to be Democratic and Republican commissioners, respectively. Lizárraga succeeds Allison Herren Lee, who plans to leave as soon as he takes office; Uyeda succeeds Elad Roisman, who departed the agency several months ago.
Jared Gaither has joined videogame giant Activision Blizzard as senior manager for workplace integrity investigations. Gaither comes to Activision from McDermott International, where he spent four years as legal and compliance counsel. Gaither is only the latest of many ethics and compliance hires the company has made since a sexual harassment scandal erupted last year, although just this week Activision’s board released a report clearing management of any wrongdoing.
Remember Mary McNiff, former chief compliance officer at Citigroup until earlier this spring? Well, she now has a new role at the bank as chief operating officer of Citi’s institutional clients group. She reports to Paco Ybarra, head of that division, and apparently will be helping him with risk management and controls there.
Meanwhile, Benjamin Melnicki, the former head of crypto compliance for online trading firm Robinhood and who bugged out of there earlier this year, is reportedly now chief compliance officer at Cross River Bank, which is a bank in New Jersey that serves fintech and crypto firms.
Stony Brook Medicine, part of the SUNY college system in New York, has hired Patricia Cooper as chief compliance officer. Cooper comes to Stony Brook after six years at Northwell Health in upstate New York, where most recently she was assistant vice president for corporate compliance.
Palo Alto Networks has hired Jack Arnold as senior manager for ethics and compliance. Arnold comes to the company after six years at Xilinx and then AMD, which acquired Xilinx earlier this year; he had been a global corporate compliance specialist there.
Juan Luis Fuentes has a new job at Johnson & Johnson, where he is director of healthcare compliance and government affairs for the Americas region. Fuentes previously worked at Novartis, where he had been head of ethics, risk, and compliance for oncology products in the Americas region. Like any good pharma worker, he’s based in New Jersey.
M&T Bank, a mid-sized bank with operations in the Mid-Atlantic states, has hired Jennifer Imber as vice president of compliance for fair lending. Imber joins M&T from Premier Bank in Ohio, where she had been fair lending compliance officer for two years.
We also have a bundle of personnel updates from Europe…
Dutch telecom giant United Group has hired Vuk Matijasevic as a senior adviser in risk and fraud management for operations in Serbia. Matijasevic comes to United from TransferNova, a Serbian financial services firm, where he had been AML compliance director.
British Arab Commercial Bank has named Richard Snookes interim head of financial crime risk and anti-money laundering officer. Snookes joins BACB from Sberbank — yes, that Sberbank, the Russian financial giant sanctioned after the country invaded Ukraine — where he had been chief compliance officer since 2016.
Pictet Group, a wealth management services firm based in Switzerland, has hired Vianney Trajin as risk and compliance manager.
In Denmark, Leo Pharmaceutical has promoted Greg Zahrebelnyy from director of global risk and compliance to senior director of ethics, risk, and compliance. Zahrebelnyy joined Leo last year.
Also in Denmark, maritime shipping business Monjasa has hired Pia Han Lindberg as compliance manager, although Lindberg herself works in Dubai. She joins Monjasa after a few months at Emerson Automation Solutions, and prior to that was group compliance manager for Audi Volkswagen in the Middle East region.
In Italy, Teleflex has promoted Roberta Griggio from compliance officer for Europe to deputy compliance officer for the EMEA region. Griggio has been with Teleflex since 2018 and is based in Milan.
And back in the United States, Rollstone Bank & Trust, a community bank in Fitchburg, Mass. that really should have Mick Jagger on its board, has promoted Suzanne Panagopoulos to chief compliance officer. Panagopoulos has been with the bank for five years and previously was compliance officer.
