Compliance Jobs Report: Aug. 26

Lots of updates from the financial sector in the Compliance Jobs Report this week! We have a flock of fintech news; other updates from Honeywell, Home Depot, McAfee, and the City of Chicago; and job leads this week from across the Midwest. Meme of the Week goes out to drunk college students.

As always, thank you to all the compliance people sending me tips and links to keep this report going. We need your help to make the Report work, so send me some news! If you have a tip to pass along, email me at [email protected] or find me on LinkedIn.

Compliance Jobs News

This week we begin with CIFC Asset Management, a fund with about $40 billion in assets, which has split its legal and compliance functions into separate roles. Julian Weldon, who had been CIFC’s general counsel and chief compliance officer since 2015, is leaving the firm. Now deputy general counsel Asha Richards will be promoted to general counsel, and Lily Wicker joins the company as chief compliance officer (and associate general counsel, but CCO is the cooler title). Wicker comes to CIFC from Sound Point Capital, where she had been chief compliance officer since 2020.

Sound Point Capital, in turn, has named Andrea Sayago as chief compliance officer and associated general counsel. Sayago joins Sound Point after 11 years at Cowen Investment Management, where she had been managing director and chief compliance officer.

In the insurance world, Allianz has poached Alison Rayner to be its new chief compliance and corporate affairs officer effective February 2023. Rayner will join Allianz from Aviva, where she had been group compliance and financial crime risk director. Rayner will report to Allianz CEO Colm Holmes

We have several personnel items this week from the fintech world. First, Zolve, a fintech firm that likes to style itself as a “neobank,” has hired Douglas Hamilton as chief compliance officer. Hamilton comes to Zolve after two years at Gemini, where he had been director of consumer lending compliance.

Digital currency brokerage Genesis (do all fintech startups have only one-word names now?) has hired Michael Patterson as chief compliance officer. He comes to Genesis after a long career at EY, most recently as a senior partner in the financial services practice. The firm has also hired Michael Patchen as chief risk officer; he previously worked at AQR Capital for six years as chief risk officer.

And e-commerce platform Juni has hired Ambreen Khasru as vice president of regulatory compliance and oversight. Khasru comes to Juni from yet another one-word fintech firm, Zilch (we’ll just let that name speak for itself), where she had been chief compliance officer.

Fuat Kanmaz has joined MoneyGram International in Turkey, working as an internal control officer. Kanmaz had previously been manager of internal control and fraud services at a Turkish accounting firm, Cerebra CPA & Advisors.

Ioan Pop has joined Nordea Bank in Denmark as head of sanctions risk management. Pop comes to the bank from K2 Integrity, where he had been managing director of the firm’s financial crimes risk management practice.

OK, enough of the banking and financial world!

Jasmine Hawkins has joined Dentsu International as senior manager of ethics and compliance for the Americas region. Hawkins comes to the advertising services giant from State Bank of Newburg (that’s in Wisconsin), where she had been an internal audit manager.

Home Depot has promoted Mia Reini to director of corporate compliance and ethics. Reini has been with the company since 2019 and previously was senior manager of corporate compliance and enterprise risk management.

We have an update on Judith Akinosho, who earlier this summer left TikTok, where she had been head of ethics for the EMEA region. Akinosho is now chief compliance officer at Afiniti, an artificial-intelligence firm that “identifies behavioral patterns to transform the quality of interpersonal interactions.”

American Senior Communities, a large operator of senior care facilities in Indiana, has named Mindy Shapiro chief compliance officer. Shapiro joins ASC after many years working in law firms and government practice in Indiana.

Mary Chinnock Petroski is retiring as chief compliance officer at the University of Nebraska at Kearney. Petroski joined UNK in 2014 in the human resources department, and has been CCO since 2017. Petroski was an elementary school teacher prior to joining UNK, which sounds like excellent experience for a career in HR and compliance. We wish her well.

The City of Chicago has named Stephen Skardon chief risk officer. Skardon had been the city’s acting chief risk officer since earlier this year, and helped to establish the city’s first enterprise risk management function when Lori Lightfoot was elected mayor in 2019.

Cenlar FSB, a mortgage loan subservicer, has rehired Ruthann Redmon to be director of fair lending compliance. Redmon previously worked for Cenlar through most of 2021; she spent most of this year working at First National Bank of Omaha as director of fair lending.

Cybersecurity firm McAfee has promoted Sarah Decker from deputy general counsel and compliance officer to chief legal and compliance officer.

Aayushi Jain has joined Honeywell in its India operations as a senior fraud and forensics auditor. Jain previously worked at FlipKart for three years, most recently as manager of anti-corruption compliance monitoring.

And For Our Future, a political organizing nonprofit in Washington, D.C., has hired Ethan Gumpert as national compliance manager. Gumpert previously worked at AdvaMed for three years in the company’s ethics and compliance function.

Milestones

Robin Ashby is celebratingone year at Vertex (the tax software firm in Philadelphia, not the pharmaceutical company in Boston that goes by the same name) as audit director and head of IT compliance.

Daniel Garen is celebrating one year at Vivint as chief ethics and compliance officer.

Devi Shanmugham just hit one year at Tradeweb as global head of compliance.

Brad Cowger is celebrating five years as director of internal audit at Thermon
