Compliance Jobs Report: Sept. 2

What better way to celebrate the Labor Day Weekend than reading up on the labor news of compliance and audit professionals? This week’s Compliance Jobs Report has items from CEVA Logistics, Dollar General, PPG, Amazon Web Services, and more. We also have job leads in pharma, higher education, and banking; and Meme of the Week goes out to everyone in the school band!

This week we begin at CEVA Logistics, where chief compliance officer Charles Paré has announced that he is leaving after 18 months there. No word yet on where Paré might go next, although he promises “more updates soon!” By the way, I interviewed Paré last year about how one builds out the compliance function at a global organization. 

Dollar General has named Matt Sikes chief compliance officer. Sikes comes to the discount retailer after four years at Nissan Motor Corp., most recently as chief compliance officer for the Americas region.

Joann Rapuano has joined Safran USA (U.S. subsidiary of the French aerospace firm) as senior counsel for global trade compliance. Rapuano comes to Safran from Embraer, where she had been chief compliance officer for the company’s North America operations since 2018.

Discover Financial Services has hired Diamond Griffith as senior legal compliance tester. Griffith previously worked at the U.S. Small Business Administration as a senior loan compliance officer. 

Stuart Altman has joined Mystic Lake Casino & Hotel as vice president of compliance. Altman comes to the Prior Lake, Minn., casino from Contour Global, where he had been chief compliance officer since early 2021.

In the United Arab Emirates, Nathalie Zaharna has been named chief compliance officer at Alpian, a digital private bank. Zaharna comes to Alpian after four years at Reyl Finance Ltd., where she had also been chief compliance officer. 

The German stock exchange Deutsche Börse has hired Marc Peter Klein to be its next chief compliance officer, starting January 2023. Klein will come to the firm from Deutsche Bank, where he was a senior executive in anti-financial crimes compliance.

MU Healthcare, the hospital system run by the University of Missouri, has hired Matt Frederiksen-England to be chief compliance officer, starting Oct. 1. Frederiksen-England joins the hospital from Billings Clinic in Montana, where he had been chief compliance and integrity officer since the start of 2021.

Remember Judd Hesselroth, long-time compliance executive at Microsoft until he left the company one year ago? After taking a one-year sabbatical, he just turned up at Amazon Web Services as senior manager for industry standards. 

Sbanken, which bills itself as a “smart bank” and operates in Norway, has hired Cecilie Lille as chief risk officer. Lille joins the bank from DNB, another Norwegian financial services firm, where she had been head of operational risk.

In Richmond, Va., Atlantic Union Bank has tapped Sherry Williams to be its next chief risk officer. Williams joins Atlantic Union from Amalgamated Bank, where she also had been chief risk officer. She succeeds David Bilko, who is retiring.

In Fort Wayne, Ind., First Internet Bank has hired Michelle Wedeven as director of regulatory compliance. Wedeven had previously been vice president of compliance and fair lending at Federal Savings Bank for two years. 

Ryan Fishman has joined Caary Capital, a Canadian provider of credit card services for small business, as director of compliance and internal audit. Fishman joins the company from Wealthsimple, where he’d been senior manager of internal controls. 

And Juan Pablo Cantoral has been promoted at PPG, from director of legal and compliance for northern Latin America to senior managing counsel for the same region. He’s also relocating from Mexico City to Pittsburgh. Here’s hoping he adjusts well to living in Steelers Nation.

Milestones

David Chavez is celebrating one year as chief audit executive at CVS Health.

Christina Dutra just hit one year at Intertek, where she is a compliance manager. 

Craig James is celebrating one year as chief audit executive at Terminix.

Chetna Koshy just hit one year as chief compliance officer at Rice University in Texas.

Angelique Lee is celebrating one year as chief compliance officer of Jazz Pharmaceuticals. 

Teresa Tang is celebrating one year at IQVIA, where she is senior director of compliance for Europe and the Americas. 

Alex Bustamante just hit five years as chief compliance and audit officer at the University of California.

Kevin Patrick Kelly is celebrating five years as an vice president for complex risk at Morgan Stanley in Boston.

And Adriana Velazquez is celebrating 10 years at Walmart, the last eight of them as chief compliance officer for Mexico operations.

Vendors and Service Providers

Courtney Sander has launched her own compliance consulting firm, Ford the River Compliance. Sander had been director of compliance at Ontivity, a wireless telecom company in Texas; prior to that she worked at Flowserve

Recruitment firm Marlin Hawk has launched a legal and compliance practice. The practice will be headed by Brandy Russell, who previously worked in legal recruiting at DHR Global and Major, Lindsey & Africa. 

Open Req Orders

Boehringer Ingelheim is looking for a chief ethics and compliance officer for its U.S. operations. Job can be remote, but Boehringer’s U.S. headquarters is in Ridgefield, Conn.

The University of California is looking for a trainer and content developer to work in its Office of Ethics, Compliance, and Audit Services. Job is based in Oakland, Calif.

Capital One is looking for an audit manager to join its financial crimes compliance team. Job is based in McLean, Va.
