The Compliance Jobs Report this week has news from Warner Bros., Cronos Group, Tufts University, a bundle of financial services firms, and lots more. We also have some news from the compliance vendor world, plus job leads in law firms, fuel depots, and sporting arenas — and don’t forget our Meme of the Week!

As always, thank you to all the compliance people sending me tips and links to keep this report going. We need your help to make the Report work, so send me some news! If you have a tip to pass along, email me at [email protected] or find me on LinkedIn.

Compliance Jobs News

This week we begin in the entertainment world: Warner Bros. Discovery, the behemoth born from a giant merger earlier this year, has named Michelle Hylton senior vice president and head of global ethics and compliance. This isn’t a huge surprise; Hylton had previously been associate general counsel and compliance officer for Warner Media, while it was still a subsidiary of AT&T. She also had a long stint at Turner Broadcasting System before that.

Kara Tucker has joined legalized weed business Cronos Group as head of business conduct and ethics. Tucker comes to Cronos (“an innovative global cannabinoid company”) after two years at Georgia Tech, where she had been director of ethics and compliance. Tucker’s old boss at Georgia Tech, Ling-Ling Nie, left the school in January.

Grupo Bimbo, the Latin American food giant, has hired Farrukh Khan as head of SOX compliance and internal controls for its North America operations. Khan, who is based in Arizona, had previously been head of control assurance for MUFG Bank

We have an update on Lucianne Mallmann, who stepped down last month from her job as chief compliance officer at civil engineering firm Arcadis. She has joined global real estate firm JLL (that’s Jones Lang LaSalle) as head of ethics and compliance for Ireland and the United Kingdom.

Tufts University has hired Gary Weingarden as privacy officer and director of IT security compliance. Weingarden previously worked at Notarize, a tech company, as data protection officer and senior counsel. Go Jumbos!

Another one in higher education: the University of Connecticut Health has hired Elle Box as chief privacy officer and assistant vice president for healthcare compliance. Box comes to UConn Health after six years as chief compliance officer at TMC HealthCare in Arizona. Before entering compliance Box was a forensic immunochemist, a job that sounds way cool but I have no idea what it is.

Michael Henry has joined Ionis Pharmaceuticals as director of compliance. Henry comes to the Carlsbad, Calif., company after six years at Boston Scientific, where he had been senior counsel.

In India, Sun Pharma has hired Sangeetha Karpore as head of compliance. Karpore joins the company after three years at Lupin, where she had been general manager of ethics and compliance.

In Brazil, Juliana Araujo has joined Amazon.com as a compliance officer. Araujo previously worked at Crypto.com as director of compliance, and moonlighted as a freelance payments compliance consultant in the gaming sector.

Winnie Sokoloft has left her job at Brookfield Asset Management, where she had been a compliance analyst handling conflict of interest issues. No word on what Sokoloff might do next.

Bramshill Investments, an asset management firm in Florida, has promoted Mona Daruwala from senior director of compliance to chief compliance officer. Daruwala joined the firm earlier this year.

Trading 212, which bills itself as the top online trading app in Britain even though its name includes the area code for Manhattan, has hired Darren Dale as chief compliance officer. Dale joins Trading 212 from ADSS, another financial services firm, where he had been head of compliance.

Private equity firm HarbourVest Partners has hired Adam Freedman as chief compliance officer. Freedman had previously been chief compliance officer at Angelo, Gordon & Co. for 10 years. He succeeds William Royer, who apparently left HarbourVest earlier this year.

Linda Howard has been named interim compliance officer for The Assistance Fund, a charity that helps the needy facing high medical bills. Howard was previously interim chief compliance officer for the University of Illinois Hospital System.

Herman Gonzalez has joined Astec, a maker of road-making machinery, as director of trade compliance. Gonzalez comes to the Florida-based company after three years at Welbilt, where he had also been director of trade compliance.

In Australia, Allianz Partners has promoted Katherine Krueger from governance and agency relations manager to senior governance risk and relations manager. Krueger has been with Allianz since 2017.

And Berkshire Hills Bancorp has promoted Ashlee Flores from vice president of compliance and fraud prevention to chief compliance officer. Flores succeeds Deborah Stephenson, who left the bank to pursue another opportunity.

Milestones

Kelly Hubbard is celebrating one year at Meggitt, an aerospace and defense contractor based in San Diego, as senior export compliance manager.

Ayesha Jones is celebrating one year at Amgen, as head of legal for Africa and the Middle East.

Jane Levine just hit one year as chief compliance officer at fintech firm DailyPay.

And Melissa Akali is celebrating five years as associate vice president for compliance for Aveanna Healthcare in Atlanta.

Vendors and Service Providers

Danielle Moubarak has joined Spark Compliance Consulting as a principal advisor, working from Amsterdam. Moubarak had headed up ethics and compliance for the EMEA region for Natura & Co. until last year.

Nardello & Co., a boutique investigations firm, has opened a Los Angeles office. The office will be run by Annie Chang, a managing director at Nardello who has been with the company for six years.

Diligent has released its Modern Governance 100 list, if you’re into those lists of notable and influential people. The categories include ethics & compliance leaders and audit leaders; see if you recognize anyone! (I did.)

Open Req Orders

The law firm Covington & Burling is looking for a compliance analyst, as part of building a new in-house compliance function for the firm. Job is based in Washington or can be remote. I’m told more openings will be posted soon!

Madison Square Garden Entertainment is looking for a vice president of compliance and remediation. Job is based in New York and will focus primarily on operational audits, although the role is separate from the internal audit function. You may also need to watch the occasional Knicks game; if so, demand more money.

Bunker Holdings (“bunker” is an industry term for marine oil fuel storage tanks) is looking for a group compliance officer. Job is based in Houston, although Bunker is headquartered in Denmark.

Compliance Meme of the Week
