Compliance Jobs Report: Nov. 11
Another week with lots of items for the Compliance Jobs Report. We have news from Pepsico, Twitter, VMWare, Traton Group, and more; plus a bundle of work anniversaries to note and job leads in payments, manufacturing — and dating! Meme of the Week goes out to Elon, of course.
As always, thank you to all the compliance people sending me tips and links to keep this report going. We need your help to make the Report work, so send me some news! If you have a tip to pass along, email me at [email protected] or find me on LinkedIn.
Compliance Jobs News
This week we begin in the food world: Marjorie De La Cruz is leaving her job as chief ethics and compliance officer at Pepsico, to become chief legal officer at yogurt maker Chobani; she’ll make the transition by end of this year. De la Cruz joined Pepsico in 2004, and had been CCO since early 2021. No word yet on who might succeed De la Cruz as head of compliance at Pepsi, but the company does have a solid stable of in-house compliance executives who might try to move up the ladder.
VMWare has promoted David Koeppel, from associate general counsel and deputy chief compliance officer to deputy general counsel and chief compliance officer. Koeppel joined the software giant in 2020 after nearly a decade at the U.S. Department of Labor.
As you might have heard elsewhere, Twitter chief compliance officer Marianne Fogarty resigned this week — along with pretty much everyone else at the company who can see that Elon Musk is driving it into a ditch. Our sympathies to the poor soul at Twitter who ends up taking on these duties.
Michael Onusko has joined Penn Highlands Healthcare as director of compliance. Onusko comes to the healthcare company, which serves western Pennsylvania, after 18 months at Excela Health, where he had been chief compliance and privacy officer.
Traton Group, maker of large commercial vehicles as part of the Volkswagen empire, has named Darcy Morowitz head of governance, risk, and compliance and chief compliance officer. Morowitz joins Traton after 13 years at Navistar, the last seven of those years as chief compliance officer and head of internal audit.
Leon Li has a new role within the Danone empire. He had been associate director of risk control for Danone Waters in China; now he is compliance officer for Greater China and China risk control director.
SmarterContracts, a fintech startup in London, has promised Ulrika Dellrud from strategic adviser to chief privacy and data ethics officer. Dellrud has been with the company a bit more than one year.
And another promotion: Atlanticus Holdings, a financial technology company based in Atlanta, has promoted Rosalind Drakeford from director of compliance to managing counsel and chief compliance officer. (The compliance officer title is, of course, way more important and cool than the managing counsel title.) Drakeford has been with Atlanticus since 1999, and working in compliance at the company since 2012.
In Mexico, Octavio Carreto has joined GE Aerospace as senior legal and compliance counsel. Carreto had previously worked at Mitsubishi Electric’s auto operations in Mexico, where he had been legal compliance officer for two years.
In Nigeria, oil & gas exploration business Seplat Energy has promoted Theophilus Sanjo Alao from internal audit officer to senior compliance counsel. Alao has been with the company since 2020.
National Bank of Coxsackie, a community bank in upstate New York, has hired Sarah Hodgens as chief compliance officer. She joins “NBC” from Ascentra Credit Union, where she was vice president of compliance.
In Florida, Health Services Management Corp. has promoted Brian Jackson from chief compliance officer to chief quality and risk officer. Jackson has been with the nursing home operator in various roles since 2008.
And remember Mark Carwan, longtime senior audit and compliance executive at Citigroup until he retired in 2020? He just joined the board of directors at the Bank of London, where he will serve as chair of the bank’s audit committee. (Carwan also serves on several other boards these days.)
Milestones
Luis Canuto just hit one year as director of corporate compliance at GoPuff, an online delivery service based in New Jersey. (I thought it was a legalized weed thing.)
Timothy Dumas is celebrating one year at Under Armour as senior lead for its global ethics and compliance program.
André Miniussi is celebrating one year as ethics and compliance executive at Mainstream Renewable Power, a developer of green energy systems.
Loree Shelko is celebrating one year at Southwire Corp., as vice president of quality, risk management, and litigation.
Sheila Alves is celebrating five years at Virginia State University as head of internal audit.
Jason Kneeland just hit five years at Acer Therapeutics, where he is corporate controller. Fun fact: Kneeland’s nickname in high school was “the Pelican.”
Steven Shore is celebrating five years at MetLife as director of compliance.
Vendors & Service Providers
Vikas Sharma has left his job as deputy chief compliance officer at Nephila Advisors to join ACA Group, a GRC consulting firm. He’ll be a director there.
Open Req Orders
PayPal is looking for a director of global network compliance. Job can be based in San Jose, Calif., or New York. Should have subject matter expertise in e-commerce payments in the U.S. market and “a lazer focus on the customer.” Yes, they misspelled “laser.”
Hinge, the online dating app, is looking for a manager of privacy and GRC. Job is based in New York.
Crane Co., the industrial manufacturing giant that will split into two companies early next year, is looking for a chief audit executive. This role will stick with the original Crane, not the spin-off. Job is based in Stamford, Conn.
