Compliance Jobs Report: Dec. 16

Another week of much news in the Compliance Jobs Report. We have a flurry of news from Home Depot; a promotion for the CCO at Terex Corp.; and other hirings at Philip Morris International, Northwest Mutual, and lots of others. Job leads this week are in higher education, retail, and (again) Home Depot!

As always, thank you to all the compliance people sending me tips and links to keep this report going. We need your help to make the Report work, so send me some news! If you have a tip to pass along, email me at [email protected] or find me on LinkedIn .

Compliance Jobs News

This week we begin at Home Depot, because ethics and compliance director Mia Reini sent over a bushel of updates to note. Melissa Barris was promoted in October to senior manager in compliance and ethics, to backfill Reini’s role after Reini was promoted earlier this year. Michelle Floyd was also promoted to lead Home Depot’s global trade audit team. Jordan Birnbrey now leads a new compliance program effectiveness team, and she scooped up two other ethics and compliance staffers to join her group: Santiago Morrice and Emily Purcell. One assumes all these people are loyal subscribers to the Radical Compliance newsletter.

Overall, Home Depot has expanded its ethics and compliance team from seven to 28 people; and reorganized into three teams: the “original” compliance team running hotlines, conflicts of interest, and other issues; the global trade audit team, headed by Floyd; and a new compliance program effectiveness team, led by Birnbrey. Reini says they are hiring yet more people, so look for those details in this week’s Open Req Orders section.

Kendall Wangsgard has joined Philip Morris International as senior counsel for global anti-corruption and AML issues. Wangsgard previously worked at law firm Baker Hostetler for 12 years, where most recently he was counsel in the firm’s white-collar defense practice. Nice to see a lawyer moving from the firm world back into corporate!

An expanded role for Stacy Babson-Kaplan, the long-time chief compliance officer at heavy industry manufacturer Terex Corp.: she is now also the company’s chief sustainability officer. (See, people! I told you that compliance officers are natural fits to oversee ESG programs.) Babson-Kaplan has been with Terex for 21 years, the last 15 of them as CCO.

Northwestern Mutual has promoted chief audit executive Stephanie Lyons to vice president of investment risk and operations. Abim Kolawole, the insurance giant’s vice president of financial planning and strategy, will succeed Lyons as chief audit executive.

Rocket Lab USA, a California company that launches small satellites into space in a rocket known as the Electron, has hired Darie Achstein-Conway as global trade and compliance manager. Achstein-Conway comes to Rocket Lab from Electro Rent, a testing technology company, where she had also been global trade and compliance manager.

In Portugal, Rita Eugénio has joined Novo Banco as head of the anti-financial crimes unit. Eugénio comes to the bank after 15 months at Banco BAI Europa, where she had been head of compliance.

Pharmaceutical giant AbbVie has promoted Courtney McMorrow from associate director of international compliance operations to associate director of business compliance. McMorrow has been with the company in various roles since 2013.

Julie Bregnard has joined Paradigm Corp., a healthcare firm based in California, as associate counsel. Bregnard joins Paradigm after five years at Fresenius Medical Care’s North American operations, most recently as ethics and compliance officer for the company’s NxStage Medical subsidiary.

Tracy E. Tracy has joined medications management business Cureatr as chief compliance officer. Tracy previously worked at Icario, a healthcare services company in Minnesota, as vice president of compliance and legal.

Equitybee, a financial services firm that helps people exercise and manage the stock option rights they might own, has named Susan Woodward chief compliance officer (and also CEO of Equitybee Securities). Woodward comes to Equitybee after two years at Victory Capital in San Francisco, where she had been chief compliance officer for the firm’s broker-dealer operations.

In Brazil, Rafael Gomes has been hired at OEC, an engineering and construction firm there, as chief compliance and risk officer. Gomes comes to the company from financial services firm Novonor, where he had also been chief risk and compliance officer.

Statkraft, the hydroelectric power company based in Norway, has promoted Paula Pereira from senior compliance officer to head of compliance for Continental Europe.

And Kris DiGirolamo has retired from Allstate after 33 years there, most recently as deputy chief ethics, compliance, and privacy officer. She says she is now “enjoying life ‘on the other side’ and am amazed at all the changes in insurance and ethics, compliance, and privacy that have occurred over my tenure!” Amen!

Milestones

Judy Belluomini is celebrating one year at WEX Bank, as chief compliance officer.

Lisa Kershner-Urbine is celebrating one year at Fastenal, where she is financial reporting and regulatory compliance manager.

Vendors & Service Providers

COSO, the nonprofit group that churns out frameworks for effective internal control, enterprise risk management, and many other issues, has named a new chairman. Lucia Wind will take over as chair starting Jan. 1, 2023, for a three-year term. Wind is chief audit executive at Unisys, a job she has held since 2019. She succeeds Paul Sobel, who had been chairman since 2018

Open Req Orders

Now to those numerous job openings at Home Depot. Currently the company is looking to hire two senior data analysts for compliance effectiveness, as well as one “regular” senior analyst for compliance program effectiveness; and a technical writer to draft standard operating procedures.

The University of Texas at Arlington is looking for a chief compliance officer. Job is based in, you guessed it, Arlington, Tex.

Costco is looking for a SOX compliance program manager, and breathlessly promises that “this is an environment unlike anything in the high-tech world.” Anyway, the job is based in Dallas, right next to UTex-Arlington if that application falls through.

Compliance Meme of the Week

That’s all for this week’s report.
