Compliance Jobs News

This week we begin at Pepsico, which just promoted Farzin Firooznia to be global chief ethics and compliance officer. Firzoonia has been with Pepsi for nearly 18 years in various roles, and most recently was general counsel for Pepsi’s Latin America region.

Kimberly-Clark, maker of toilet paper, diapers, and other paper products so dear to surviving a pandemic, has hired Lara Chalmers as vice president of internal audit. Chalmers comes to the company after four years at Flowserve, where she had also been vice president of internal audit.

A few folks from Fresenius Medical Care have announced new roles there, presumably as part of a wave of personnel reshuffles at the start of the year. Mridul Mehta has been promoted from compliance lead for the “Emerging Asia sub-region” to run business partner compliance in the Asia-Pacific region. Enrique Grande Jarque has moved from head of compliance for Western Europe & Israel to head of compliance for “EMEA West” and Canada.

LDJ Manufacturing, which makes the Thunder Creek brand of fuel trailers, has hired David Ladwig as manager of compliance and EHS issues. Ladwig joins the Iowa company after a year at Paychex, where he had been a compliance analyst.

Remember Jeff Smagula, who’d been chief ethics and compliance officer at Tufts Health Plan in Massachusetts until the start of 2021? After a short tour of duty at the law firm Verrill, he just turned up at Martin’s Point Health Care in Maine as general counsel.

American Health Plans, a provider of Medicare insurance, has hired Rick Burguières as compliance manager. Burguières comes to the Tennessee-based company after four years at Health Team Advantage, where he most recently was a senior compliance manager.

Shawn Rogers, previously a senior director of ethics and compliance at Walmart until he left the retailer in November, just turned up at Stanley Black & Decker. Contract gig as a legal compliance consultant. (I wonder if they give out compliance-branded drill sets at employee outreach events…)

In Singapore, Gangadevi CA has joined Organon associate director of compliance for Asia-Pacific and Japan. She joins Organon after not quite three years at Fresenius Medical Care, where she had been compliance manager for Singapore, Australia, and New Zealand.

Now a bunch of promotions…

Houston-based Stewart Information Services has promoted Mary Thomas from chief regulatory counsel and deputy chief compliance officer to chief compliance officer. She succeeds John Killea, who had actually been chief legal officer and chief compliance officer; but Killea just retired and the company is splitting his duties into two separate roles. Elizabeth Giddens, who joined Stewart last year, is taking over as chief legal officer.

Marinus Pharma has promoted Vanessa Costa, from senior director of corporate compliance to executive director of compliance. Costa has been with the Pennsylvania-based company for two years.

Applied Materials has promoted Anne Takher from senior director of ethics and compliance to managing director of ethics and compliance. Takher has been with the semiconductor company since 2020.

Banco Itau has promoted Denise Ouchi from AML analyst to AML assistant vice president. Ouchi has been with the bank for five years.

And Relax Gaming in Malta has promoted Rita Claassen from due diligence officer to due diligence manager. She has been with the online gambling platform for two years.

We have an update on Andrea Barr, former chief audit executive for the Baltimore County School District, who was wrongfully fired last year when school committee members declined to attend a meeting and vote on renewing her contract. Barr settled a retaliation lawsuit against the district at the end of December; she has returned to her job and won $115,000 in damages too.

And unfortunately we have sad news, too. Kevin Monahan, 24 years old and a corporate compliance analyst at Davita Kidney Care, passed away just before Christmas. We extend our sympathies to his loved ones.
