Compliance Jobs News
This week we begin at Danske Bank. As we reported the other day, chief compliance officer Satnam Lehal has announced that he’ll be leaving that role in early 2024. Lehal first joined the bank in 2019 as head of financial crimes compliance, and became CCO in 2021. Danske Bank has not said what it will do about finding a successor.
We do, however, have a comment from the Justice Department about the plea agreement Danske Bank signed last month to settle its massive money-laundering scandal. That agreement requires the bank’s CCO to certify the design and effectiveness of the compliance program in 2025 — a CCO who will not be Lehal, the person who designed that program.
“We expect whoever is the CCO at the time of certification to sign (that is, the new CCO),” a department spokesman told me. “We also expect any CCO serving during the term of the agreement to be meaningfully engaged in building a strong compliance program that meets both legal requirements and requirements of the agreement with the department.”
What do you all think of that answer, compliance professionals? Email me at [email protected] with your thoughts; confidentiality guaranteed.
