Compliance Jobs Report: March 3
Lots of news in the Compliance Jobs Report this week! Changings of the guard at Ericsson and the White House; new hires at Freddie Mac, One Medical, and elsewhere; and numerous promotions around the world. We also have job leads in semiconductors, telecom, and parties; plus our Meme of the Week.
As always, thank you to all the compliance people sending me tips and links to keep this report going. We need your help to make the Report work, so send me some news! If you have a tip to pass along, email me at [email protected] or find me on LinkedIn .
Compliance Jobs News
This week we begin with Ericsson, which is shaking up its compliance team after settling pleading guilty to violating a deferred-prosecution agreement for previous FCPA violations. The settlement, with Ericsson paying $206 million in penalties, was announced Thursday. That same day, Ericsson also announced that chief compliance officer Laurie Waddy is leaving the company after four years on the job.
Jan Sprafke, currently head of compliance for Ericsson’s Europe and Latin America operations, will be chief compliance officer on an interim basis until the company hires a permanent successor. (We should also note that Hayley Tozeski, who headed Ericsson’s relations with its compliance monitor for that original FCPA settlement, moved on from her role last month.)
We also have a notable departure in the Biden Administration. Alicia O’Brien, leader of the ethics and compliance team in the White House Counsel’s office, has stepped down after two years in that job. O’Brien is returning to law firm King & Spalding, where she worked prior to joining the Administration; she will be a partner in the firm’s government investigations practice. No word yet on who succeeds her as the White House’s top ethics and compliance officer. (If you know, drop me an email at [email protected].)
Five Star Bank, a community bank based in Buffalo, has hired Gary Pacos as chief risk officer. Pacos comes to the bank after three years as chief compliance officer at Bank OZK, which of course is in Arkansas.
Mortgage giant Freddie Mac has hired Abedin Astafa as chief AML and sanctions officer. Abedin comes to the bank after eight years at Capital One in various compliance roles, most recently as head of AML and Know Your Customer risk.
Tori Lallemont has joined One Medical, a healthcare platform that’s part of Amazon.com, as assistant general counsel for regulatory and clinical compliance. Lallemont previously worked at 98point6, a healthcare startup, as general counsel.
San Diego-based Crinetics Pharmaceuticals has hired Tina Webb as vice president of corporate compliance. Webb comes to the company, which makes treatments for endocrine disorders, after six years at Avanir Pharmaceuticals, where most recently she was assistant compliance officer.
Sprinklr, a Boston-based software startup, has promoted chief compliance officer Jacob Scott to general counsel. He succeeds Dan Haley, who is leaving the company; unsure whether that’s all related to other job cuts Sprinklr has announced recently.
Medical device maker Arthrex has hired Merina Eberhard as a compliance monitoring analyst. Eberhard previously worked at Florida Cancer Specialists and Research Institute, where she had been associate director of compliance operations.
Brian Allam has joined Westgate Las Vegas Resort & Casino as director of compliance. Allam is really only moving down the Strip; he previously had been senior compliance manager at the Venetian Resort Las Vegas.
Tele Columbus Gruppe, a large fiber-optics company in Germany, has hired Anja Seele as chief compliance officer. Seele joins the company from the Aenova Group, where she had been chief compliance officer for two years.
Pharmaceutical giant Roche has promoted Nicole Peter, from global compliance leader to head of compliance for Roche Diagnostics’ Asia-Pacific region. Peter has been with Roche in various roles since 2014. She is based in Switzerland.
Medtech giant Medtronic has promoted Héctor Romero González, from compliance channel principal for Northern and Central Latin America, to compliance channel lead for the Americas region. González has been with Medtronic for two years and is based in Mexico City.
Nigerian fintech firm Konga Pay has hired Olusegun Afolabi as chief compliance officer and head of risk management. Afolabi comes to Konga Pay after 11 years at Sterling Bank, the last four of them as financial crimes compliance manager.
The chief risk officer of German fintech firm N26 apparently has resigned, amid regulators’ concerns over the firm’s internal governance and compliance controls. N26 says Thomas Grosse resigned due to personal reasons; he is the third senior executive to leave N26 in the last 12 months, so people might want to keep an eye on that.
And Sofia El Mansouri, a great person and compliance thinker who works from Morocco, has joined Schneider Electric as regional compliance manager for the North Africa region. Mansouri has been running her own compliance consulting practice and blog since 2019.

Open Req Orders
Global Foundries, a semiconductor foundry based in upstate New York, is looking for an ethics and compliance lead. Job is based in Malta, N.Y. Could be quite a professional challenge given all the export control issues in semiconductors these days.
EventBrite, the online events service, is looking for a senior manager of SEC and corporate reporting. Job is remote. Think of all the cool events you’ll be able to see.
Nokia is looking for a head of business integrity. Job is based, alas, in New Jersey.
