Compliance Jobs Report: April 14

This week the Compliance Jobs Report is all over Silicon Valley Bank, where the exodus of compliance and audit professionals continues. We also have news from Fresenius Medical Care, Chime, Temple University, and many more. Job leads are in nursing homes, mortgages, and car seats; plus lots of other gossip too!

As always, thank you to all the compliance people sending me tips and links to keep this report going. We need your help to make the Report work, so send me some news! If you have a tip to pass along, email me at [email protected] or find me on LinkedIn.

Compliance Jobs News

This week we begin back at Silicon Valley Bank, the corporate governance punching bag of 2023. Its new chief risk officer Kim Olson, who took the job in January of this year, now reportedly has left the bank. John Peters, SVB’s chief audit executive since 2006, is also apparently on his way out. Dennis McCarron, who had been senior director of compliance at SVB since 2019, is gone as well.

You’ll remember that SVB went without a chief risk officer for much of 2022 while its balance sheet began to sag. Nobody knows yet who the new chief risk officer for the successor bank might be, but according to tech news website TechCrunch one name floating around is Lorie Rupp, chief risk officer at First Citizens Bancorp. Stay tuned.

Mary Shirley is leaving Fresenius Medical Care after eight years there, where she is currently head of culture integrity. No word yet on exactly what she might do next, although Shirley does say it will involve “a new work chapter involving a re-location to warmer climes.” Alas, Shirley lives in Boston, so the weather hint doesn’t tell us much.

Last week we noted that Enrique Grande Jarde had left his job at Fresenius Medical Care. Well, he just turned up Takeda, where he will be head of ethics and compliance for the Iberia region in Europe. Now you know.

Temple University (go Owls!) has named Susan Smith chief compliance officer. Smith had been serving in that role on an interim basis since January; she previously had been the university’s deputy counsel since 2015. Smith succeeds Alejandro Diaz, who left Temple at the start of the year to run ethics and compliance at Dartmouth College.

Joel Mark has joined Chime, one of those personal finance apps for people younger than me, as ethics officer. Mark comes to Chime from Google, where he had been compliance lead for the Google Commerce division.

Kimberly Pittman has joined Hubspot, an online provider of CRM software, as deputy general counsel for compliance, risk, and corporate governance. Pittman previously worked as chief compliance officer for Smile Direct Club. She will be based in New York even though Hubspot is headquartered in Boston, a city that is way cooler than New York.

Cenlar FSB, a mortgage service business based in New Jersey, has hired Marlon Groen as chief compliance officer. Groen comes to the company from AHP Servicing, where he had been chief risk and compliance officer since last year; prior to AHP, he was chief compliance officer at PHH Mortgage

Elizabeth Owen has a new job as senior vice president of AML and fraud prevention at Berkshire Bank in Massachusetts. She comes to Berkshire from MVB Bank in West Virginia, where she also had been head of AML compliance.

Stuart Evans has joined the Mather Group, a wealth management firm with about $11.6 billion in assets, as chief compliance officer. Evans comes to the firm after three years at Cerity Partners, where he had been chief compliance officer.

Wedbush Securities has hired Matt Lisle as chief compliance officer for its Futures division. Based at the firm’s Chicago office, Lisle will report to general counsel Andrew Druch. Lisle comes to Wedbush from Galaxy Digital, a financial firm that had been “engineering a new economic paradigm” or something, where Lisle had been director of legal.

In Colombia, Ricardo Buitrago has joined pharmaceutical giant Bayer as a risk management specialist. Buitrago previously spent five years at KMPG, most recently as a senior auditor.

And 3S Money, a global payments platform for businesses, has promoted Desiree Djete from head of compliance for the United Kingdom to global head of AML and regulatory affairs. Djete has been with 3S since last fall.

Milestones

Andrea Easter is celebrating one year at Open Mortgage, a mortgage lender based in Austin, Texas, as chief compliance officer.

Andrew Weinberg is celebrating one year at Moody’s Corp. as chief compliance officer.

Sanjay Singh just hit five years at Hershey Chocolate as head of internal audit.

Felipe Harman is celebrating five years as compliance manager at Rutas de Lima SAC, a construction firm in Peru.

And Nicole McRae is celebrating 20 years at Becton Dickinson, where these days she is senior director for enterprise compliance and operations.

Vendors & Service Providers

Geof Stapledon has left his job as group ESG officer for BHP (actually he left BHP late last year) and has opened his own ESG advisory firm, GPS Global Advisors

AuditClub, a startup trying to deliver “auditing as a service,” has hired Brian Yujuico as senior chief auditor. He comes to AuditClub after four years at Pacific Life, where he was director of accounting policy.

And mildly big news from the vendor world: RSA Security has sold off Archer, its GRC platform, to private equity firm Cinven. Purchase price undisclosed, alas.

Open Req Orders

Touchstone Communities, a nursing home chain based in Texas, is looking for a vice president of ethics and compliance. Job can be remote; the company itself is based in San Antonio. Salary range is listed at $100,000 to $170,000.

SoFi, an online banking giant, is looking for a director of mortgage compliance. Job is based in San Francisco.
