This week we begin in the banking world: Comerica Bank has named Kristina Janssens chief compliance officer. Janssens joins Comerica after spending nearly a decade with Flagstar Bank where she most recently served as chief compliance and privacy officer. She will report to Comerica’s executive vice president for financial intelligence and corporate compliance, Susan Randolph.
Balfour Beatty Communities, the military housing contractor that paid $65 million to settle criminal FCPA charges in 2021, has named David Berman chief compliance officer. This is a newly created role for Balfour, and Berman should not be confused with Dan LaFrance, who runs compliance for sister company Balfour Beatty US. Berman comes to Balfour Beatty after three years at Lyft, where he had been director of compliance and ethics.
Tizgel High has joined Prime Therapeutics, a pharmacy benefits management company based in Minnesota, as chief compliance officer. High previously worked for more than 10 years at LifePoint Health, the last 18 months of that stint as chief compliance and privacy officer.
Natasha Thoren has left her job as chief compliance officer at Albireo Pharma, a biotech startup in Boston recently acquired by Ipsen Pharmaceuticals. Thoren departed to join X4 Pharmaceuticals, where she will be general counsel and compliance officer.
Peter Sand has left his job as manager of privacy and data compliance at Boyd Gaming; he joined the U.S. Department of Homeland Security, working on privacy policy and oversight.
Audra Nariunaite has left her job at Oyster, an HR services firm, where she had been director of compliance; and is now running a solo compliance consulting practice from her home base in Jacksonville, Fla.
Mutual fund giant Vanguard has hired Bhuvana Balasundaram to be senior director of compliance methodology. Balasundaram comes to Vanguard from Scotiabank, where she had been head of U.S. regulatory controls for two years.
In New York, Deutsche Bank has hired Carol Troxclair as a compliance officer. Troxclair previously ran her own consulting business for a few years, and prior to that spent 16 years at National Regulatory Services as an on-staff compliance expert.
In London, Teodora Harrop has joined Border to Coast Pensions Partnership, an investment management firm, as head of compliance. Harrop comes to Border to Coast from BCMGlobal, a financial services firm, where she had been head of risk and compliance.
AbbVie has hired Parshva Bhavsar as manager of financial compliance. Bhavsar joins AbbVie from GoHealth, a Medicare insurance firm, where he had been manager of financial planning and analysis for the last two years.
Tali Guy has joined Stryker, where she will lead the compliance teams for Latin America, Asia-Pacific, Europe, and Canada, as vice president of regions compliance. Guy will be based in Israel. She previously spent 16 years at Teva Pharmaceuticals in various roles, most recently as vice president of global compliance and ethics.
Capital.com, a London-based foreign exchange and derivatives trading platform, has hired Sheena Kanabar as chief compliance officer. Kanabar comes to Capital.com from ADSS, another British financial services platform, where she had been chief compliance officer for two years.
And remember Fernanda Beraldi, who used to be senior ethics and compliance executive at Cummins? She just turned up at Aurorium, a chemicals manufacturer based in Indianapolis, as general counsel and compliance officer. Beraldi had lately been at Inotiv, a biotech research services company, as general counsel
Milestones
Julie Gershman is celebrating one year as director of ethics at McKinsey & Co.
Will Maher is celebrating one year at U.S. engineering firm KBR as vice president of internal audit.
Aparna Murthy is celebrating one year at JP Morgan Chase as vice president of controls.
Sarah Whipple just hit one year as global chief compliance officer at Apellis Pharmaceuticals, a biopharma business based in suburban Boston.
Ana Paola Aldinio has reached five years as head of internal audit and SOX compliance for EDEN, an electric company in Buenos Aires.
Susan Lipsitz is celebrating five years at IQVIA as chief compliance officer.
Vendors & Service Providers
Michael Barakat has left his job as assistant director of compliance at Sanne to join advisory firm Weaver as director of regulatory compliance.
Jack Holleran has left his job as managing director of compliance at Moody’s Corp. to join BDO as a managing director.
And we have a new ethics consulting firm out there! Welcome tol the world, Ethicist International. The firm launched this week and some of its notable senior folk include Sujata Dayal (chief compliance officer at Medline Industries until earlier this year) and Howard Lin (senior ethics and compliance exec at Eli Lilly’s China operations until earlier this year).
Open Req Orders
Smithfield Foods, maker of Nathan’s hot dogs and many other brands, is looking for a chief ethics and compliance officer. Job is based in Smithfield, Va., and salary range is listed at $187,000 to $275,000. Presumably one should like hot dogs.
The San Diego Zoo Wildlife Alliance, the nonprofit that operates the San Diego Zoo, is looking for a director of ethics and compliance. Job is based in San Diego, and salary range is listed at $126,000 to $139,000. (See, employers? That’s what a reasonable salary range looks like.) Presumably one should like animals.
Supernal, a company developing personal self-driving electric helicopters (OMG want…) is looking for a compliance counsel. Job is based in Washington, D.C., with a listed salary range of $182,000 to $286,000, a preposterously wide salary range. Presumably one must like flying around the city.
