Compliance Jobs Report: Nov. 10
This week the Compliance Jobs Report has compliance officers on the move at Balfour Beatty, Dollar Tree, Panasonic, Abbott, and plenty more! We also have a few career milestones to celebrate; job leads in fintech, pharmaceuticals, and real estate; and our Meme of the Week goes out to veterans.
Always remember that we need your help to make the Report work, so send me some news! You can easily find updates from your LinkedIn contacts by visiting the My Network tab on your own profile and then checking the Stay in Touch option at the top of that page.
We also take any other gossip you might have, even confidentially. If you have a tip to pass along, email me at mkelly@radicalcompliance.com or find me on LinkedIn.
Compliance Jobs News
This week we begin at Balfour Beatty US, where chief compliance officer Dan LaFrance is stepping down after 2.5 years in the post. What’s next? LaFrance is going to Kokosing Inc., a family-owned construction firm with operations across the Midwest and mid-Atlantic, where he will be chief compliance officer. No word yet on who might succeed him as CCO at Balfour. (Balfour’s U.K. parent company, Balfour Beatty Communities, settled False Claims Act charges in 2021 with a three-year probation period that ends next summer.)
Next is discount retailer Dollar Tree Stores, which has hired John Scudder as chief ethics and compliance officer. Scudder joins the Virginia-based Dollar Tree after 18 months as director of regulatory compliance at McKinsey & Co., but prior to McKinsey he spent nearly a decade at Walmart in high-level ethics and compliance roles.
We have an update on JoQuese Satterwhite, who announced a few weeks ago that she was leaving Medtronic. Turns out that Satterwhite (who is a delightful person) is joining Abbott as vice president of ethics and compliance for the company’s rapid molecular and diagnostics division, which I’m sure is important even though I have no clue what it does.
Louis Sapirman has retired from Panasonic North America, where he had been chief ethics and compliance officer since 2019. Sapirman is a community theater buff, so we look forward to him starring in a production of “Our Town” or “Midsummer Night’s Dream” somewhere in suburban New Jersey sometime soon.
United Surgical Partners International, a subsidiary of Tenet Healthcare that operates ambulatory surgical centers around the United States, has hired Daniel Villavisanis as compliance officer. Villavisanis comes to United Surgical from HCA Florida Kendall Hospital, where he had been director of ethics and compliance since the start of this year.
Clinical research organization MCRA Corp. has hired Hassan Abdullah as head of healthcare compliance. Abdullah comes to the company, which assists other medical and pharmaceutical companies with research and market entry, after a long career in healthcare compliance consulting.
Amber Hall has been promoted, from chief compliance and privacy officer at Cox Communications to chief compliance and privacy officer at Cox Enterprises, the parent company. Hall has been with Cox Communications since 2021, but spent much of the 2010s in various legal and compliance roles at Cox Enterprises.
Andrea Eklund has joined Baptist Health in Jacksonville, Fla. as senior vice president of compliance and internal audit. Eklund previously spent three years at UnityPoint Health in Iowa, where she was chief compliance officer.
Robinhood, the online trading app whose share price just tanked this week after reporting a bad quarter, has hired Mack McCain as associate general counsel for regulatory matters and chief of staff. McCain joins Robinhood after two years as general counsel at Arta Finance, a startup that promises to “unlock the financial superpowers of the ultra-rich through technology.”
LPL Financial has hired Jim McHale as chief compliance officer. McHale previously worked at Wells Fargo as head of compliance for the bank’s wealth and investment management division. He succeeds Alex McCoy, who had been running compliance for LPL since 2020; LPL hasn’t said whether McCoy has left the firm or will move into a new role.
Tire Rack, one of the largest privately owned tire retailers in the United States, has hired Perry Carr as audit and compliance supervisor. Carr previously worked at CBOE Global Markets as an information security specialist. He also has a long-running side job as a member of the Missouri National Guard working on maintenance of intelligence systems.
In Boston, Deb Snow has a new role within the Mass. General-Brigham hospital empire, as compliance officer for McLean Hospital, renown for its psychiatric and behavioral health programs. Snow had previously been compliance officer of Mass General’s affiliate hospital in Salem, Mass.
Liberty Mutual has promoted Angela Flockhart to be a compliance and fraud analyst working on billing investigations. Flockhart has been with Liberty Mutual for 10 years, and previously worked in training and customer service (which seems like excellent experience to move into an anti-fraud role).
And David Overall has a new role at United Airlines as director of regulatory compliance “and dangerous goods.” I have no idea what that means but it sounds way cool. Overall has been with United for 23 years, and previously was director of policy and procedure.
Milestones
Maria Arbona is celebrating one year at T Mobile, where she is managing counsel working on anti-corruption issues.
Darcy Morowitz is celebrating one year as head of governance, risk, and compliance and chief compliance officer at the Traton Group, maker of large commercial vehicles as part of the Volkswagen empire.
Nilza Casiano is celebrating five years at Banco Santander, where she is executive director of compliance.
And Jeff Price just hit five years as vice president of internal audit for Warner Bros. Discovery. (He started with Discovery in 2018, before the Warner merger.)
Vendors & Service Providers
Jeanette Turner has joined Financial Recovery Technologies, a tech firm that helps institutional investors file claims and make recoveries in class-action lawsuits, as head of compliance solutions. Turner previously worked at FinTech Reg Review, a consulting firm, as managing partner.
