Take Our Survey on Testing!

Calling all compliance officers who want to know more about best practices for testing and monitoring your program! Radical Compliance and Rethink Compliance have teamed up to launch a survey on those very issues, and we need your help.

You can take the survey through a dedicated page hosted by Rethink, and it shouldn’t take you more than 10 minutes to answer. We ask about how your business tests its ethics and compliance controls (including whether you test at all), who does the testing, what sort of data you collect from IT systems to perform testing, and so forth.

Responses will be crunched, analyzed, and written up in a report we will publish later this year.

Why help us with this project? First, because I’ve written up or read a lot of compliance surveys over the years, and I don’t recall ever seeing a report specifically about the challenges of testing and monitoring — but clearly, testing and monitoring are a vital part of an effective compliance program.

testingFor example, the Justice Department expressly talks about testing, monitoring, and access to data in its guidelines for evaluating corporate compliance programs. Just about every FCPA enforcement action we’ve seen lately requires companies to perform regular testing and then submit the results to prosecutors in the form of annual progress reports.

So, testing and monitoring matter. But compliance officers struggle to do it effectively, because testing internal controls typically isn’t something they teach in compliance officer school.

This survey (and its ensuing report) will help put context around those challenges. You can get a better understanding of what “normal” testing and monitoring look like in your industry and for corporations as a whole. From there you can argue for more budget from the CFO, more support from internal audit, or other resources you might need to bring your testing program up to snuff.

That said, we can’t do any of this without your help. The survey is anonymous, free, and easy, so please help yourself and your compliance peers by taking it today!
