Compliance Jobs Report
This week we begin in the tech world: Tammi Johnson, director of fraud analytics and compliance at Microsoft, is leaving the company after 21 years there. She is joining Facebook Meta, where she will be on the GRC team focused on issues management in Meta’s Integrity, Safety, Security, and Operations division.
Homecoming alert! Justin Jolly is rejoining Priority Financial Group, a firm based in Phoenix that supports financial advisers and credit unions, as chief compliance officer. Jolly spent 11 years at Priority from 2011 to 2022, the last four of those years as CCO. He then spent two years as director of compliance at the Mutual Group, but he’s back at Priority now.
Greg Thomas has joined fixed-income investment giant PIMCO as senior compliance officer. Thomas previously worked at Neilson Financial Services for a few months as head of risk and compliance, and prior to that was head of compliance at Allianz Retire.
We have a few nuggets of news from Nissan Motor Corp., too. First, Denis Bassetto has been promoted to be head of compliance and data protection for Nissan’s Latin America operations; he is based in Brazil. Second, Ana Ramos (who reports to Bassetto) has been promoted to senior ethics and compliance manager and country compliance officer for Mexico. Nice to see the internal promotions!
HSBC has hired Olaniyi Alao as manager of financial crime risk and control, working for HSBC’s “Innovation Banking” unit. Alao comes to HSBC after a short stint at Modulr, one of those fintech startups that can’t spell their own name correctly, where he was head of partner oversight compliance.
Melio, a financial services firm that caters to small businesses, has hired Nick Passarelli as chief compliance officer. Passarrelli previously spent four years at Brex, maker of expense management software, where he most recently had been chief compliance officer.
Barbara Whittinghill has joined Truist, the large regional bank based in Charlotte, N.C., as director of IT compliance. Whittinghill comes to Truist from SAP, where most recently she was a senior risk specialist.
Staying in Charlotte banking circles, Wells Fargo has promoted Davon Raspberry from business execution consultant to senior compliance specialist.
Howden, a reinsurance firm based in Houston, has hired Ricardo Mago as internal audit manager. Mago was last seen at Community Health Choice, a healthcare system in Houston, where he had been senior manager of auditing until January of this year.
Dan Berryman has joined financial services firm Sun Life as internal audit manager. Berryman previously worked for eight years at Kodiak Solutions, a consulting firm, where he had been healthcare audit manager.
Daniel Harris has parted ways with mobile phone giant Ericsson after four years there; most recently he had been compliance counsel and head of monitor liaison operations. What’s next? Harris has joined Assa Abloy, a Swedish IT services firm, as compliance officer.
Allison Kekacs has joined Raga Partners, a private money management firm, as chief compliance officer. Kekacs comes to the New York-based firm after four years at Wolfe Research, where most recently she was vice president of legal and compliance.
Commercial property insurer FM Global has promoted Ysamar Ortega, from quality assurance program manager to assistant vice president for internal audit and quality assurance. Ortega has been with FM Global for nearly 10 years.
Kyle Mathieu has left PwC, where he had been assurance manager, to join electronics manufacturing business Amphenol as senior manager of internal audit.
Abby Hilleshiem-Scott has joined the awesomely named Wolverine Worldwide, maker of outdoor apparel; she will be director of internal audit and chief audit executive. Hillshiem-Scott previously worked at KPMG for 10 years, most recently as advisory director.
Sheila Fischer Kiernan has parted ways with Salesforce, where she had been vice president of global HR compliance for the last eight years; her job was eliminated as part of a reorg. She posted a thoughtful farewell address as she starts looking for a new opportunity.
Citibank has promoted Ryan Tancer from senior audit manager to audit director for enterprise risk management. The bank also promoted Yenny Hernandez in its Mexico operations from assistant vice president for testing AML, sanctions, and anti-bribery controls to vice president of compliance testing.
Glen Shapiro just joined JPMorgan Chase as vice president and internal audit manager for consumer and community banking technology. Shapiro joins the bank after 10 years at Protiviti, where he most recently had been associate director.
Mitsubishi UFJ Financial Group (that’s MUFG to those in the know) has hired James Leon as vice president of compliance. Leon comes to MUFG after four years at MetLife, where he had been senior compliance lead for anti-financial crime.
Portuguese private equity firm Explorer Investments has hired Ana Cristina Lopes as compliance officer. Lopes comes to Explorer from FundBox, another asset management firm in Portugal, where she had been compliance officer since 2018.
In London, emerging markets brokerage ITI Capital has hired Andrew Mayes as compliance officer. Mayes had previously been compliance officer at Flatgate Capital, MBU Capital, and a few other firms in the City.
Genworth Financial has promoted Tammy Curling from senior compliance manager to compliance director. Curling has been with Genworth in various roles for 32 years!
And Trustco Bank, a community bank based in Schenectady, N.Y., has promoted Michael Elwell from chief compliance officer to chief risk officer. Elwell has been with Trustco for 14 years.
Vendors & Service Providers
Ann Beasley has left her job at Zai Labs, a biotech startup based in Boston, where she was chief compliance officer; to join law firm Paul Hastings as managing director.
Open Req Orders
McKesson is looking for a senior director of open reporting and investigations. Job is based in Irvine, Texas; with a listed salary range of $161,000 to $270,000 — preposterously wide, but at least it’s provided.
Boston University is looking for a compliance director. The job reports into BU’s Office of the General Counsel. No salary range provided, but the campus does have a few cool dive bars. Go Terriers!
Software giant Okta, “the world’s identity company,” is looking for a compliance counsel. The job reports to Okta’s director of compliance. Job can be in one of several locations around the United States, although Okta’s headquarters is in San Francisco. Salary range is $122,000 to $228,000, although you gotta be in San Francisco for that high end.
