Compliance Jobs Report: Aug. 9

Another big Compliance Jobs Report this week. We have new compliance or audit leaders at Siemens, Emory University, Tulane University, Citibank, MUFJ, and elsewhere; promotions at Fox Corp. and Madrigal Pharmaceuticals; and lots more. Job leads this week are in medical education, financial services, and municipal utilities; plus Meme of the Week!

Always remember that we need your help to make the Report work, so send me some news! You can easily find updates from your LinkedIn contacts by visiting the My Network tab on your own profile and then checking the Stay in Touch option at the top of that page.

We also take any other gossip you might have, even confidentially. If you have a tip to pass along, email me at [email protected] or find me on LinkedIn.

Compliance Jobs Report

We begin this week with a changing of the compliance guard at German industrial giant Siemens. Starting Oct. 1, current chief compliance officer Annette Kraus will be promoted to executive vice president “for social and industrial relations and people & organization.” Kraus will “engage with a broad range of stakeholder groups to represent Siemens as an employer,” the company says; I assume that means she will engage with Germany’s works councils, so here’s hoping she has a strong constitution. Kraus had been CCO since 2021.

Succeeding Kraus as chief compliance officer will be Hanno Kunkel, another Siemens veteran who first joined the company in 2012. He most recently has been general counsel of Siemens’ India operations.

Fox Corp. has promoted its chief ethics and compliance officer, Nicholas Trutanich, to deputy general counsel. Trutanich joined Fox in 2021. No word on whether Fox will name a new CCO to succeed Trutanich in that role.

Emory University in Georgia has made two personnel moves of note. First, the university has hired Melissa Hall as chief compliance officer, poaching her away from Georgia Tech, where Hall had worked in various compliance roles for nearly 15 years. Emory has also promoted Deepa Pawate to be chief audit officer. Pawate has been with Emory for nearly 20 years, and had been associate chief auditor since 2014.

And another in higher education! Tulane University has hired Jim Grimes director of internal audit and chief audit executive. Grimes was last seen at cybersecurity firm Rapid7, where he had been chief audit executive until last years; he had also been head of internal audit at SeaWorld earlier in his career, so this guy has quite the diverse range of experience.

Healthcare provider Optum has promoted Jamie Heilman from manager of government programs oversight to internal audit manager. Heilman has been with Optum for four years.

Discount brokerage Charles Schwab has promoted David Varela from senior team manager to director of internal audit.

Seacoast Bank, a community bank in North Carolina, has promoted Mindy Markwardt from director of compliance to chief compliance officer.

Mitsubishi UFJ Financial Group has hired Stephanie Daniel as vice president for global financial crimes management. Daniel comes to MUFG from Intuit, where she had been “ecosystem fraud prevention group manager” since 2018. She also wins cool job title of the week for this week’s Jobs Report.

Kenny Aldridge has joined LTS, an IT services firm based in Herndon, Va., as quality assurance manager with responsibility for GRC and IT controls. Aldridge comes to LTS, which mostly works with U.S. government contracts, from Vantiva Supply Chain Solutions, where he had been director of quality and compliance.

Madrigal Pharmaceuticals is promoting chief compliance officer Shannon Kelley to general counsel. Kelley only joined the company in March; prior to that she was head of North America compliance for Sanofi. No word on whether Madrigal will hire a new CCO or Kelley will keep both titles.

Kazakhmys Corp., a large mining concern in Kazakhstan, has hired Vadim Ussoltsev as head of internal audit. Ussoltsev joins the company from Aitas KZ, a food manufacturing business there, where he also had been head of internal audit.

Jason Varga has joined Genmab, a life sciences firm headquartered in Denmark, as director of EU compliance. Varga comes to Genmab from personal products giant Reckitt, where he spent five years as global ethics and compliance director for Reckitt’s healthcare product line.

Candex, a “fintech consolidator” which seems more like an online procurement platform for odd-lot items to me, has hired Laura Otterpohl as compliance manager. Otterpohl previously ran her own due diligence consulting firm for a while and had also been a due diligence analyst at Payoneer.

The CAR Group, which provides outsourced HR services to privately held auto dealerships, has hired Bianca Ezebuihe as compliance manager. Ezebuihe comes to the firm after 10 years at Copart, where she had also been a compliance manager.

Ericsson has promoted Melissa Milstead from senior compliance officer to head of compliance for the North America market. Milstead first joined Ericsson in 2022.

Sokin, a U.K. payments firm that works in multi-currency transactions, has hired John Nidhiry as senior compliance officer working here in the United States. Nidhiry previously spent nearly six years at TransferMate Global Payments, where he had been AML compliance officer.

Fintech firm Worldpay has hired Doug Bardolph to be senior manager for PCI compliance. Bardolph comes to Worldpay after 25 years at Fidelity National Information Services, where most recently he was a risk manager dabbling in PCI compliance.

Fernando Silva has joined Citibank as senior vice president for anti-bribery and corruption compliance. Silva previously spent 13 years at Alix Partners, where he most recently was direct in the firm’s risk advisory practice.

Flywheel.io, an AI startup trying to improve medical imaging, has hired Milou Meier as director of governance and compliance. Meier comes to the Minneapolis-based company from digital credentialing firm Merit, where she had been director of compliance.

University of Texas at San Antonio has hired Jim Campbell as senior associate athletics director for compliance. Campbell comes to USTA after six years at the University of San Francisco, where he had also been senior associate athletic director with a big helping of compliance responsibilities.

And Blair Halliday, last seen at the end of 2023 at Kraken Digital Asset Exchange, just turned up at the delightfully named Paymonade, where he is global chief compliance officer and managing director.
